The property

Palace Garden Cottage is a well-presented cottage set in the heart of Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

Offering a welcoming base for families and friends exploring this historic part of the North East, this space features throughout proximity to amenities, private parking, an enclosed garden and allows pets.

Pull into the cobbled car park at the front of Palace Garden Cottage and take a moment to appreciate the well-kept gardens before heading inside, where manicured lawn and gravelled areas create a smart first impression and set the tone for your stay in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

Step through the front door into the hallway, where the flooring immediately gives the cottage an inviting feel as you hang up coats and begin to settle in.

From here, move through to the dining room, a natural gathering place for families and friends to sit down together for breakfast while planning the day or to linger over supper once everyone is back under one roof.

Close by, the cloakroom with basin and WC adds everyday convenience, particularly when returning from walks along the nearby River Wear.

The kitchen continues the welcoming feel, fitted with white fixtures that keep the space bright and practical as you unpack groceries, make use of the fridge/freezer, and prepare meals on the gas hob and electric oven, with the toaster ready for easy breakfasts and a slimline dishwasher on hand to take care of the washing up.

A door leads out to the courtyard, a useful extension of the living space where you can step outside with a drink, enjoy a quiet moment, or let the dog stretch its legs before heading out again.

Back inside, the sitting room offers a comfortable place to unwind at the end of the day, with seating arranged for shared evenings, a Smart TV for films or box sets, and an ornamental fireplace adding character as you relax together.

When it is time to retire for the night, carpeted stairs lead up to the first floor, where three double bedrooms provide flexible sleeping arrangements for your group, including one double with an en-suite walk-in shower that offers a little extra privacy.

The remaining bedrooms are served by a family bathroom featuring a bath with a shower over, basin and WC, finished with pretty wall tiles that add a touch of charm to the space.

Outside once more, the enclosed gardens offer reassurance for children and dogs, with neatly kept areas that invite a morning coffee or a pause at the end of the day, while a shop and pub are close by for picking up essentials or enjoying a meal out without travelling far.

For days out that feel like a change of pace without a lengthy drive, the nearby River Wear is an easy place to begin, whether you fancy an early morning wander with the dog, a slower stroll with plenty of photo stops, or a quiet moment on the bank as the water moves past.

The city of Durham also makes a rewarding outing, where you can lose an afternoon meandering along characterful streets, pause for coffee and something sweet when you need a break, and end with an easy riverside walk that rounds off the day beautifully.

Closer to home, Bishop Auckland itself offers simple pleasures that suit a relaxed itinerary, from picking up treats for a picnic, to finding a spot for a casual lunch between exploring, to returning to the cottage with time left to settle into the sitting room for a film night.

Palace Garden Cottage, in Bishop Auckland, Durham, brings together a practical location, pet-friendly comfort and inviting spaces for time well spent together.

BISHOP AUCKLAND

Durham 11 miles;

Bishop Auckland is a busy market town, 11 miles to the south of Durham and is home to the Gothic palace of Auckland Castle and deer park, a 900 year old medieval hunting lodge and grounds, once home to the Prince Bishop’s of England. Bishop Auckland offers a thriving arts and cultural scene with a cinema, theatre and arts complex. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the town centre and an abundance of shops to peruse. On the outskirts of the town you can discover the secrets of the largest Roman Fort in the county at Binchester or perhaps book a night at Kynren, a spectacular night show depicting the history of England, seen through the eyes of Arthur, a 10 year old boy from the North East, (opening July 2016) and marvel at the pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects. There is a scenic railway line which runs from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope. It was purchased quite recently by Jonathan Ruffer the man behind the Auckland Project and instrumental in bringing Kynren to Bishop Auckland. The city of Durham is just a short drive north with an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, and a little further will take you to the Roman town of Chester-le-Street or Beamish Museum. A little further afield you can discover the Durham Dales, Newcastle upon Tyne, Hadrian's Wall, the Heritage Coast, Cragside at Rothbury and the North York Moors; there’s something for everyone.
