The tiny hamlet of Ballyconneely has played witness to significant achievements in history. In 1919 Alcock and Brown landed just two miles away after completing the first ever transatlantic flight. The landing was close to the Marconi Wireless station, itself used to send the first transmission across the Atlantic in 1907. Nowadays, the peaceful location is renowned for the annual pony show and its proximity to the famous Connemara links championship golf course.
