  • "We had a lovely holiday in this gorgeous cottage."

It was clean, spacious and very comfortable. We felt very safe and secure and the location was perfect for visiting family in Galway and Roscommon. Thank you so much

  • "I went with 2 sisters in their 80."

S and 3 dogs. We went for a quiet time . It was very rural which suited us but was still only about 8km from Ballygar. No wifi was great. Intermittent phone but Wattsapp worked fine. Very clean. Had everything and more. Lovely surroundings to possibly see deer badgers etc. Lots of birds.animals. It is not dog secure but our dogs never ventured away but others might. The only fault we had was the shower in main bathroom was very hard to regulate temperature, I did email the owner about it. I would recommend it for a quiet stay but it has easy access to Galway Mayo, Sligo etc to explore.

  • "In the most part, the holiday & cottage was exactly as described."

The cottage was lovely, in a secluded & delightful location. Birdlife was plentiful and we had a visiting fox one evening. However, two things that should be made expressly clear - one to all families, and the other to all guests. There was no WiFi at the property, which wasn't made expressly clear in the details, but the absence of even a mobile or data signal was very much a challenge too. As a family with a baby, the absence of a travel cot was a major challenge and necessitated a trip to the shops immediately on arrival to purchase another. Whilst you have subsequently advised us, after we complained, that a travel cot was not provided, given the booking included an infant, it should have been made expressly clear at the point of booking, or after, that a cot was not provided and we would thus need to provide our own - this would have been a simple & straightforward piece of communication to make.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Tommy Clarke's Cottage and the surrounding area. As the description of the property shows we do not have WiFi available or a travel cot, if this was something you required we would have asked you to contact us before booking so we could of advise you of this. • "This cottage is a charming gem in a beautiful setting."

It is very rural and quiet with no WiFi and poor phone signal but it was a wonderful break from all the screentime of our covid year. Instead of being online our kids were exploring the forest, building forts, watching and identifying beautiful birds in the garden and waiting for nightly wildlife to appear. They saw a deer in the garden early one morning and a nightly badger visitor. It was truly a wonderful time. The kitchen is very small but the house is very well equipped with all the essentials. The owners were very hepful and friendly in corresponding with us. Perhaps some nice comfortable garden chairs would be a nice addition for comfort while bird watching! We had a wonderful holiday and would love to return some day.

  • "The cottage was great from the point of view of dog owners."

A terrific large grassed area perfect for dogs or children alike, which was clean and safe, with direct access into a small part of the woods beyond. The position of the cottage was good for us as we took day trips to Counties Clare and Roscommon, as well as other parts of Galway. Inside, the rooms were good sized apart from the kitchen, which was disappointingly cramped and basic. I had also expected it to be cleaner, especially given the Covid pandemic. The bedrooms were very quiet and we slept well. The mattresses were quite comfortable although the duvets were a bit thin for September and we needed to add blankets for extra warmth.

  • "It was our first time booking a week away with Sykes/Hogans, having usually booked with Air bnb instead."

The property was large with plenty of space but sometimes lacked expected items. In the twin bedroom, there was nowhere to store clothes. Fortunately, our children took this room so brought their clothes down to our bedroom but this was not ideal and only worked as they were young enough (pre-teen) to not mind too much. The drawers in the two double bedrooms were dirty inside and the light switches needed cleaning. Normally we would have ignored this but under current circumstances we cleaned the drawers, switches then other high touch surfaces as we weren't confident this had been done. The tea-towels have obviously been used well over time so we were glad we had bought one as a gift to take home ...it is no longer a gift! Having said all that, the house was spacious and beds were comfortable, the area is lovely, the garden is huge and the garden chairs were lovely to sit out on. The wooded area around gives chance to fully relax and somewhere peaceful to retreat back to, which we really enjoyed. The roads were quiet enough for cycling and we had some lovely days out.

  • "The cottage had everything you needed to have the perfect holiday."

Literally everything! It was private and peaceful. The dogs loved the open space and the kids wanted to stay there forever!! Roscommon a short drive have all the shops you need. I must say we had an emergency on the trip (in another town away from the house) and the owners are so thoughtful and kind and supported us when we needed it the most. Great experience.

  • "We arrived at Tommy Clarke’s cottage equipped with comprehensive and very useful instructions."

The cottage itself is large and spacious with everything catered for the couple of days we were there. We came accompanied by our two dogs who were delighted with the lovely underfloor heating and the cosy fire in the evening. The highlight for us was the woodlands that surround the cottage, so full of bird-song and hopping with wildlife - we saw frogs, red squirrel and deer. It was a magical experience, a private nature reserve in the middle of the gently rolling midlands countryside.

Central enough to take scenic drives out to the Connemara coast and plenty of points of interest in the local and surrounding areas. Hosts extremely helpful and lovely to deal with.

The quaint but spacious cottage, was cozy and full of charm, and created a feeling of being on a woodland retreat, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It was accessible to everywhere for those days that you wanted to sightsee, but provided a santuctary of peace and reflection at the end of the day. Loved this place and my dogs had plenty of exciting places to investigate.

The land surrounding the cottage is stunning and the kids enjoyed exploring all around the cottage. It was lovely to watch all the birds feeding from the Bird Table, my son really enjoyed refilling the bird food, so much so, I had to buy one when we got home. We would definitely stay again.
