  • "Glynsk cottages is a lovely location and would have no hesitation in returning to it, but we would rent another cottage as we were disappointed with the standard of hygiene and the facilities within 1A house."

  • "Great house, lovely comfy sofas for relaxing."

Everything we needed. Lots of space, beautiful location. Other houses for younger kids to make friends. Only negative is at least an hour of travel to get to anywhere and my teens were demented as no shop or anything to walk to. It is beside a lovely pub/restaurant with a gift shop, would be great if it turned part of it to a little corner shop for essentials and treats as 20 mins drive to buy milk or a bar of choc.

Thank you so much for letting us stay! Will be back!

  • "The house is a great location for touring the Connemara area."

All appliances in good condition making it a cosy house to rent.

  • "This beautiful cottage met our expectations in every way."

What is not always clear from descriptions is what the immediate area will be like and whether there is a view from the windows; so, to let everyone know this cottage has wonderful views and the area is as beautiful as any in Conemara - we were smitten; all the people we met also lovely. Our only difficulties were getting the fire to light!

  • "The lighting of the sitting/dining room as well as of the kitchen is really poor, especially when one likes reading."

The equipment of the kitchen (e.g. cooking pots and pans) is limited.

About the location

Clifden 23 miles; Galway 49 miles.

The small, quiet village of Carna in the heart of the Irish-speaking area of Connemara Gaeltacht, is set on the shores of Galway Bay, overlooking Galway Harbour, in the scenic region of Connemara. Carna is noted for its traditional Irish music and singing, and music sessions are held weekly in the local pubs and hotel. For walkers, runners, cyclists and hillwalkers, the area provides opportunities unrivalled for their tranquillity and scenery. The quiet roads leading to Mweenish Island and the local coves are ideal for family cycling. Lying off the coast of Carna is St. MacDara's Island, a site of pilgrimage and mass held on 16th July each year. The famous sailing crafts, the 'Galway Hookers' were made in Carna, as well as a small boat called the Currach, and the area is well known for the skilled boat-makers who crafted them. There are still some working examples of the 'Galway Hooker' moored at Mweenish Island and Cashel Bay and 'hooker' regattas are held throughout July and August. It is also possible to book a day trip on a local 'hooker'. There is great fishing in the area with many working piers providing an ideal place for lobster, crab and mackerel fishing, while Connemara National Park, home to the famous Connemara Pony and Kylemore Abbey are both within easy reach, providing great days out for all the family.
