  • "We selected this property because it was inexpensive, basic yes, but it photographed well and it was close to our family who we were visiting for the week."

In our many years of travel we have never had to leave a negative review and have even left giving this review for a week in the hope that we would give a calm and fair appraisal but in all honestly to say we were disappointed in this rental property is somewhat an understatement, we feel it was not fit for purpose and be removed from the listing. On the positive side, communication with the owner was warm and helpful and key collection was straight forward, however, when we arrived I was near to tears at what we found. We immediately contacted the owner and expressed our disappointment so reading this will not come as a surprise to him. Bed linen, cheap /basic and seamed clean, but all the spare pillows were sweat and blood stained so we decided to remain ignorant to the state of the pillows under the pillow covers that we were to use. Flooring throughout were visibly dirty and a mass of fluff and dirt from a quick sweep around prior to our arrival was hanging to the broom in the kitchen. The worksurfaces were (every inch of them) not only visibly unclean, but sticky and greasy, oven, hob top. Microwave, disgusting food splattered /unusable and splashback smeary and greasy. Bathroom sinks were unwashed and had the previous occupants used soaps and smear marks. Walking through to the utility room we were assailed with the smell of soggy washing – towels and bath mats on airers and a full washing machine of wet towels. Having been advised that we did not need to bring towels or sheets we had to dry what was in the washing machine to have towels to use. Coffee table in the lounge had gritty dirt all over it so we through a cover over it to remove the site from our memory. Doors had a greasy shine to them, light bulbs blown and not replaced and the tv had one channels and the signal on that was not always clear. My father, quite frail had a fall so we looked to use the first aid kit for a graze on his arm, this was a completely empty box.

  • "Lovely spacious cottage."

A few niggles. Freezer had been turned off and smelt so didn't feel I could put food in it. Non stick frying pans were scratched and not enough baking trays. One was rusty and unusable. Plastic drainer on draining board needed a thorough clean and bleaching so we didn't use but left it in laundry room. Had a problem with no hot water in en suite shower but after a phone call to Denise she sent someone to look at it. Had to wait until the next day for it to be fixed but as we had 2 bathrooms it wasn't a major problem. Overall though we were very happy staying there. It's in a lovely rural setting but not too far from a town with pub, Supermarket etc

It was very comfortable for our little 50th wedding Anniv. celebration. Working and serving our guests from the area with the refrigerator and freezer allowed seating for several people without interruption at the main kitchen table. Many guests said that this house would be recommended to their family /friends if needed.
