  • "Firstly, the site photographs do not do the property full justice!"

The Location and siting of the house are spectacular. Internal photos could also have been better to show real comfort and homeliness of inside. Would agree with previous comments about too much "stuff" in the kitchen - enough gear to cater for about 20 people! Need some room for our own food and drink. Lots and lots of wine glasses but sadly no beer glasses - sorry lads, have to drink from the bottle or can! Very well equipped in every department. Overall, a superb holiday rental. Peaceful, excellent location with shops, pubs and beautiful beaches nearby. Nice to have the boat - decent fishing but unfortunately no trout this trip! Would recommend this property to anyone. Thank you Delia.

  • "Amazing stay."

The location was stunning & the cottage was so cosy. The lake makes it a very special cottage. Delia was a lovely host - very welcoming & informative. We wished we’d booked longer & we were sad to leave. It was also a good location for island hopping. We did Inishboffin one of the days and Inis Mor another but we ended up having a few days just chilling and relaxing by the lake. We had a short drive down to Spiddal - the seafront is lovely for a walk & it was fun looking round the craft village. Perfect stay if you want to kick back & unwind or see the sights of the West Coast.

  • "This cottage could be lovely."

The fire was lit when we arrived, and it was lovely and warm. The outside is absolutely stunning - a lake, use of a boat, and lovely gardens. Really really beautiful, absolutely no complaints about that. There were some lovely coverings on the beds, washing powder and dishwasher tablets were supplied, as well as fuel for the fire. The heating works well, it's a secluded gated property and the view from the living room is extraordinary. However, there were two major downsides which really affected our stay. Firstly, although most of the property was clean enough, the kitchen was not and I had to clean before using it - the hob, the surfaces and the extractor, which was covered in oil. Many of the saucepans were dirty and the mugs had collected dust. There were old bags of food in the cupboards and freezer. Secondly, there was so much stuff - especially in the kitchen - that there was nowhere to put the food and bits we'd bought with us. There must have been upwards of 25 mugs, huge stacks of plates and bowls, loads of utensils and tea sets and glasses, and drawers full of things like old phone cases and batteries. The problem is two-fold because the huge amount of stuff a) takes up all the room and b) must be impossible to keep clean. If the owner just provided a simple set of crockery and cutlery and a few essential utensils and pans that would be enough and it would then also be easy to keep clean and there would be space to put your food shopping. It would have also been helpful to have a few other essentials like some more hangers in the wardrobe, a curtain over the window in the main bedroom upstairs, and some new towels - there was a huge pile of towels but some of them were stained and had seen better days. There were also two power shower units in the one shower cubicle, neither of which gave enough pressure of water to wash your hair properly. There is also clearly a damp problem in the chimney which has caused some unsightly staining upstairs, and the fire hadn't been cleaned out properly. The fire itself could do with a new ash tray - the current one has holes in it and the ash went everywhere when I took it out to empty. It's such a shame because this property could be absolutely amazing if the owner removed 70% of what was in it, updated a few bits and cleaned it properly. I hate to leave a review like this but I have to be honest - there's no way we would ever return. It feels like you're living in someone else's house with all of their bits and pieces in the drawers and cupboards rather than a holiday let. I will say though - the lake is amazing and we really appreciated the use of the boat. Thanks and good luck for the future.

  • "A delightful traditional cottage in an idyllic setting by a lake providing a peaceful and tranquil situation."

Pleasant walks from the property on narrow lanes and tracks. Cottage well equipped and exceed our expectations. Would highly recommend it for a get-away-from-it-all holiday.

  • "The Lake House was absolutely beautiful and took our breath away on arrival."

However, we didn't feel that the description regarding the location of the property was quite accurate. Also, the pubs were either not open or didn't meet expectations. We felt there was a lack of beaches within easy reach which meant that we found ourselves having to do excessive mileage to get to one. It was however, wonderful to be able to fish from the boat in the Lake.

Delia was a wonderful host and the facilities were excellent. The lack of WiFi was a blessing as we all managed to disconnect at the lake house. Would highly recommend a stay in this special place to anyone.

  • "Delia is a lovely host, providing us with an exceptionally warm welcome and very detailed information about the house."

No photographs can do the islands of Ceantar na nOileán justice and in turn, Delias Lake House. The house is rustic but with all modcons and the location is beautifully scenic. The livingroom is very cozy, with a massive fireplace the main focal point. Some very lovely decorative touches throughout the house. Taking the boat on the lake was great craic, and under the Autumn sun just idyllic. Walkers have lots of options, with just one "main" road as an artery running through the island there is a large network of laneways and trails to navigate without the worry of traffic. For starters I would recommend the loop around the lake, which can be extended by walking down to the rugged shoreline. Tigh Lee's pub is a short stroll away and highly recommended for a few(too many) pints and conversation with the incredibly friendly locals. If you are looking for some local seafood you should ask around for contact numbers for local fishermen, we managed to purchase a huge amount of freshly caught shellfish for a fraction of the cost you would pay at market value. If you want to visit a truly unique corner of Connemara I cant recommend this property enough. Largely untouched by tourism with a purity of Gaelic culture little present elsewhere in Ireland but still in reach of the sights of North Connemara. Thank you Delia for the opportunity for outsiders to enjoy this region from such a beautiful home.

Otherwise a nice cottage, located in a quiet region. We liked the lake! Good location base to discover the Connemara and the Aran islands. Regarding Sykes - due to changes in our travel plans, we had to return some days early. The no refund policy of Sykes meant we lost 100% for that period. That is a reason not to book with Sykes anymore.

It is so well equipped, making your stay so relaxing and enjoyable. The owner, Delia, is so welcoming and helpful and has a very detailed knowledge of the area, as she was born on the island. The cottage itself has an aura of peace, warmth and tranquillity and the views over the lake from the dining room window are stunning. At the end of my stay, I just wanted to stay another week, as it was such a relaxing holiday. I will certainly return next year! I recommend most highly this lovely cottage.
