  • "A lovely cottage in a glorious location and grounds."

Quite basic but that's reflected in the price and the real fire made it very cosy. Personally we don't want all mod cons and like the owner we'd rather have trees than a fast internet connection. More information on the history of the cottage would have been nice.

Dear Alison, Thank you for your feedback. We're very happy that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for choosing our cottage for your birthday break. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely beautiful cottage and fantastic location."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Collen and Raymond were fantastic hosts. The cottage itself had everything we needed and the location was also fantastic, just outside Oughterard where there are shops, restaurants and a great modern playpark for the kids. Also not too far from Galway city and a great base for exploring the wider county as we did. The best part for us though was the significantly sized wooded area in the grounds of the cottage. Our 4 year old daughter absolutely loved exploring this and it quickly became known as the enchanted forest.

Thank you so much Seán for such high praise. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure to meet your lovely family. Maybe on your next visit you'll be able to find the fairy trails and doors. Property Owner

  • "Andrew and I had a fabulous time here."

Feel so relaxed, just like home. Staying in this stone cottage is just so special. The fire place is unique and is a landmark of the house. Colleen and Raymond are excellent hosts, they make us feel part of the local neighbourhood. We cooked every nights as the kitchen facilities are good and plenty of grocery shops & butchers nearby. Just a few reminders to people who want to book Dun na Ron. The gate to the cottage is narrow, so if you have a big car need to pay attention when driving in. This cottage has no wifi provided, the smart phone reception is 3G only, but we still managed. Overall it’s a great place to stay. If you are traveling to the west of Ireland, this should be your choice to stay.

Thank you Dorothy and Andrew. I'm so glad to hear that you had everything you needed and were pleased with your stay. Not only were you made feel like locals, in 100 years time, the census will show you as part of our history! It's lovely to think about that. Property Owner

Colleen was a wonderful host greeting us on the first day with fresh eggs and homemade marmalade (yum!) She was available when we needed her but we were able to enjoy the seclusion otherwise. My son very much enjoyed the games and toys that were in the cottage and exploring the generous yard. Location was perfect within walking distance from the lake and a 2 minute drive from town. The owners could not have been more accommodating. They allowed us to stay an extra night (FOC) due to the weather conditions. They found plenty of things to occupy our two young children whilst we were unable to leave the property. Delicious cake and marmalade left for us on arrival. A perfect, cosy cottage for a lovely Irish getaway. Great base for exploring (when the weather allows).

About the location

OUGHTERARD, COUNTY GALWAY

Galway 17 miles.

The traditional village of Oughterard is found in the west of Ireland on the shores of Lough Corrib, at the start of the Connemara Mountain range and close to the famous Western Way. Home to the Oughterard 18-hole championship golf course, Derroura Mountain Bike Trail and Aughnanure Castle, there are lots of things to see and do, and located next to Lough Corrib, Oughterard is great for lovers of fishing. Just a short drive away in Roscahil is the pretty Brigit's Garden; with four main gardens and places to play, sit and relax, this is a great day out for all the family. Only 17 miles from Oughterard lies Galway City, where you can discover some of Ireland's long and varied history; visit Lynch's Castle, or trace the origin of the famous Claddagh Ring, which originated in a village near the shore of Galway Bay. A lovely lough-side village, all year round.
