It would suit a couple, a family with children or an artist or writer looking for inspiration, and offers a cosy sitting room with an authentic vaulted ceiling preserved from the original cottage, and the warmth of a woodburning stove.

There is also a well-equipped kitchen and two bedrooms, which include a spacious double bedroom leading through to the second bedroom with a double bunk bed and en-suite.

The property enjoys a superb, south-facing enclosed garden with a meandering path and ample seating areas, ideal for children to play in, or as a quiet retreat where you can relax and unwind.

The garden has a built-in barbecue, ideal for cooking and dining outdoors, and a lovely patio area where you can enjoy breakfast in the summer.

Gable Cottage is just a short drive from the unspoilt beaches of Gurteen Bay and Dog’s Bay, with their turquoise waters and golden sands.

Enjoy a pint of the black stuff and a friendly atmosphere in one of the local pubs, and be sure to sample the fresh seafood of the North Atlantic in the local restaurants.

The market town of Clifden is less than a half-hour drive away and for the adventurous, there are many walking, climbing and cycling routes amongst the rolling peaks and sweeping valleys of this stunning location.

There are sea fishing trips leaving daily from Roundstone harbour, and the chance to sail in a traditional Galway Hooker between May and September.

Golfers will love the challenge provided by the Ballyconneely links course, just eight miles away, and fishermen will find ample stocks in the local lakes and rivers.

About the location

ROUNDSTONE, COUNTY GALWAY

Clifden 14.5 miles; Connemara National Park 25 miles; Galway 48 miles.

Roundstone, in the Connemara region of County Galway, lies on the western arm of Bertraghboy Bay. The entrance to Roundstone harbour is marked by a large stone, like an upturned bath tub, which is known as seals rock (Chloch na Ron) as seals like to clamber up onto it and bask in the sunshine. The bay itself is also often referred to as Roundstone Haven. Roundstone offers pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and a children’s playground, plus there is a traditional Irish night in the summer and a number of festivals which take place throughout the year. Roundstone is full of historical and geographical points of interest, including the bell tower of the Franciscan Monastery, now standing in the Michael Killeen Park, and the remains of a monument to St Brendan on Inishnee, a small island in Roundstone Bay. A five-minute drive away are Gurteen and Dog's Bay beaches, plus attractions in the area include horse riding, deep sea fishing, hill walking and cycling. Just eight miles from Roundstone is the Connemara Golf Club and further afield there is great scenery to enjoy either on foot, bicycle or in the car. The lively town of Clifden has lots of interesting things to see, while the Connemara National Park is just a little further away and the city of Galway can be reached in an hour’s drive.
