  • "It’s greatest assets are the beautiful setting and character of the house."

  • "What a lovely property in a gorgeous setting!"

We had the most fantastic week at the Kingdom of the Hare, even without wall to wall sunshine. I've never slept so well in my life and waking up to the view of the Glen and St Finan's Bay was absolutely priceless. The house is gorgeous, well equipped (although the range had us scratch our heads on the first day) and we even spotted a few hares so it lived up to its name. The host provided excellent instructions and recommendations (we paid the Driftwood café a couple of visits as it was so good and at walking distance) so thank you. I'd love to go back one day. One week just was not enough!

  • "This was a lovely property in a beautiful location, clean and very much as described."

We did have a bit of trouble cooking and ended up adapting a couple of meals to heat on the hob as the oven turned itself off half way through cooking when the water for the rest of the house had heated up. This is not a criticism as the information at the property was quite honest; I just felt it would take me more than a week to learn to cook on a range!

Vielen Dank!

Dear Gaby, Thank you for your kind feedback, I am glad you enjoyed your holiday. You were the last group to use the old heating system, we are replacing it with something that will hopefully be more efficient and rational! Property Owner

  • "Kingdom of the Hare is a fantastic place to stay, the level of care and effort which has been made to ensure guests have a comfortable and memorable experience is really heartwarming and the location, views, locality and wider area of Atlantic Coastal Kerry can only reasonably be described as spectacular."

Whichever direction you arrive from and whatever the weather, coming into The Glen is visually stunning and the cottage is the perfect safe haven to explore from and return to. Every aspect of guest’s welfare and comfort have been catered for and Kingdom of the Hare is cosy, charming and unique, the property is finished, furnished and stocked to a very high standard throughout and feels like you are staying with close friends who have stepped out rather than renting a soulless bed for the night. There are certain aspects that might not suit everyone - the access to the first floor bedrooms is by spiral staircase which we all found an absolute delight but if you were portly or decrepit could be a challenge. Sound travels very well within the house which we had no problem with - you don’t have to raise your voice to call people for dinner (unless they are plugged into headphones) - the heating system is quirky and charming but very effective and we found it easy to use (didn’t have to do anything with it and cooking on the range when it’s on is super simple). The access road/track is long and bumpy but only adds to the authenticity and privacy of the property - we loved everything about Kingdom of the Hare and I recommend it enthusiastically as one of the best places I’ve ever stayed!

The instructions of how to work the heating and cooker as well as info of the local area and sight seeing spots were excellent (as well as written with good humour). We had the most spectacular time and our host was superb.

Thank you Sam, we're glad you enjoyed your time there so much. Property Owner

  • "We arrived back over the weekend from our stay in this cottage and while it's still fresh in my mind I want to say what a great time we had."

The cottage was in the most stupendous setting, surrounded by fantastic scenery with birdlife and wildlife galore. Each morning we had hares come to the garden to eat the daisies, wash themselves and relax- This was a very special experience and something that I loved waking up to each day, the cottage lived up to its name for sure. Kingdom of the Hare was a warm, clean and well stocked cottage with everything you needed to live in a very comfortable way. As a person who loves to cook, I particularly appreciated the fully kitted out kitchen. The Skellig Ring and the wider area around this cottage is coastal beauty and wild nature wherever you turn. If you are looking for a get away from it all experience then this is definitely the place to be. Many thanks also go out to Stephen, the owner, for his responsive manner coming up to our stay.

Thanks Tracey, I'm so pleased you had such a good time, and that the hares were so co-operative! Property Owner

  • "The house was spectacular."

Beautiful cottage tastefully updated to modern comfort. House was extremely clean with great instructions. The glen was beautiful and perfectly located for exploring the area. Truly a hard to beat location and house combination. Host was quick to be responsive when we had a question. Loved the picnic table outside and beautifully done bathroom. Can’t wait to come visit again soon!

Thanks Ian, I am delighted you enjoyed it after such a long journey! Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed every minute of our stay in this lovely, isolated cottage."

Blessed with a week of warm weather, we ate several meals and drank many glasses of wine in the garden, taking in the splendid view down the valley to St Finian's Bay. We soon mastered the art of cooking on the range, though never did get the water hot enough to make use of the inviting roll-top bath. But who cared when there was a super-efficient rain shower on hand? Our only disappointment was that we didn't see a single hare, so we renamed the cottage "The Kingdom of the Swallows," of which there were a great many.
