The property

Ballacolla 4 miles.

Situated along a quiet, rural road near the hamlet of Clough and four miles the village of Ballacolla in County Laois is this charming stone-built, detached cottage.

This traditional cottage has been awarded the Fáilte Ireland Welcome Standard rating and has been lovingly furnished to offer a romantic retreat for couples with both modern comforts and traditional features, including an impressive fireplace and picturesque half door.

The cottage centres around a cosy open plan living area and boasts a small, but well-equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting area, which are all complemented by a solid fuel stove.

A delightful double bedroom with a four poster bed completes the accommodation at this Laois cottage.

To the front of the cottage, guests can enjoy a suntrap gravel yard with a table and chairs, perfect for a spot of lunch alfresco style!

The village of Ballacolla is home to a local shop and pub and lies within excellent reach of the motorway, just a couple of miles from the exits for Cork and Limerick, making it a superb touring base for visitors with plenty of Ireland’s attractions within easy reach.

Nearby guests can enjoy long walks at Granstown Woods and Lake, Rathdowney Golf Course, the popular city of Kilkenny, just a 35 minute drive away, and within an hour’s drive is the Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle.

Day trips include the beaches of the East coast, Lough Derg, or even the capital city of Dublin home to the Guinness Storehouse, Trinity College and Temple Bar.

Whatever the weather, this charming cottage can be enjoyed all year round.

The village provides a wonderful base for anyone wishing to explore this region of Ireland with superb access to the motorways. Just a short drive away is Granstown Woods and Lough, a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Other nearby attractions include the National Ploughing Championship held in Ballacolla in September, the excellent golf course at Rathdowney and the scarecrow festival held on the August bank holiday weekend in Durrow village.
