If you want to make a day of it you can book a cruise on Moon River which is a luxury passenger cruiser it will take you along the river Shannon so you can enjoy nature while listening to live music.

Maybe you're feeling more energetic and would rather walk the Blueway which starts at Acres Lake in Drumshanbo (5 miles away) on Irelands first floating boardwalk.

You can also hire peddle or electric bikes.

If you want to get closer with nature, there are also kayaking and stand up paddle board tours available with experienced instructors.

Lough Key Forest Park (10 miles away) is another attraction not to be missed with popular activities such as Boda Borg and Zip It, or simply bring a picnic to enjoy the beautiful fresh air, natural wood land walks and water surroundings.

Carrick on Shannon also features historical sites such as the oldest chapel in Ireland and St Georges Heritage Centre.

The quaint village of Drumsna, County Leitrim, rests between the Carrick-On-Shannon to the north and Drumod to the south. Drumsna is best known for the Drumsna Roman Catholic Church, which was built in 1845 and contains a statue of the Virgin Mary that survived a fire from neighbouring Belmont House.
