  • "We enjoyed our stay, it was a nice big house close to the beach and pub."

The house could do with being updated but we would definitely go back there, we understand that it being a holiday rental property, that not everyone treats other people's property with respect and things do get damaged, it's hard for owners to keep throwing money into maintaining there houses only for someone else to come in and disrespect it. My wife and I are disabled and having the downstairs bedroom with ensuite bath and shower was a big plus for us.

The property is in a great location and very comfortable. My major complaint is with the management company which never responded once when I reached out. I would recommend everything else.

  • "House was lovely, very big with plenty of bathrooms."

I was a bit wary when I read some bad reviews but I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the house. It had everything we needed with the beach and hotel close by. Achill is a most beautiful place and Doogort is a lovely part of it. The beach is beautiful and we spent all week down there, it helped that we had wonderful weather. Would recommend.

  • "The property is in a great location and is a great size for a larger family however it needs attention and the owner during the course of our stay made efforts to improve it."

It still has some way to go in my opinion and the listing/advert needs correcting. My biggest issue however was with Sykes customer relation team however who let us down despite their assurances.

  • "The house was in poor repair and dirty."

The fridge was ancient and mouldy and too small for eight people. There was no freezer section. The range hood was still half wrapped in its delivery plastic, it was clogged with grease and did not work. Grease dropped from it if you used the cooktop. The garden was non existent and you would let kids play in it. The bathroom were dirty and two lacked mirrors. The bedside lamps had no light bulbs. The window coverings were very light and one bedroom window had no window covering. The house sleeps 8 but there were only 6 dining chairs. There was no window covering on the bay window so anyone walking the road could see into the house. There was a section of floor missing in the lounge room. It needs a serious deep clean and repairs before it is let again .

Thank you for your feedback, we have taken onboard your comments and feedback. We will provide mirrors in the bathrooms and have provided a new freezer. Hogans have inspected our home since your stay and the cooker hood is not grease it is the sticky residue left from the sticker, however the housekeping team have removed this now. Both ourselves and Hogans take the cleanliness of our homes as very important. We listen to both Hogans/Sykes and our customers to ensure they have the best experience. Property Owner

  • "The booking process through yourselves was hindered by th Covid 19 pandemic and we lost our 1st deposit of £130 for the initial booking as it was for May 2020 and travel was not advised but borders were not closed to visitors."

We made another booking which through yourselves and the owner we finally arranged for September 2021. Having waited over 16months from the initial booking date we duly arrived at what on paper sounded like our idea of an ideal holiday home. However what we arrived at was far from that. The property smelt musty having only been unoccupied for 1 week. The ashes from an old fire were still in the grate and the fireguard was caked with dust. The hob was covered in grease and grime and 1 cupboard door had remnants of a gravy spillage running down it. The Grill pan for use in the oven was missing from the property. The fridge had no icebox in the top and no facilities to store frozen food or ice for drinks was available in the property. The shower in the downstairs en-suite has a permenant drip. The shower in the upstairs en-suite has a broken connection with the shower hose/showerhead making it unsuable. The leather covering on the sofa and a leather chair in the lounge are split through age in various places. An electric socket in the lounge id damaged and should be replaced as a matter of urgency. We contacted the owner who gave us a refund of 60 euros on the rental. I will not be returning to the property unless the ownwer spend a considerable amount of money refurbishing the property from top to bottom. It begs the question "do you as a company check the properties you act for, or just take the owners word as gospel. This cottage is in such a beautiful location but lets itself down.

  • "Listing said check in at 3pm but we were told 4 pm on day before."

Property was not ready at 4. Emma promised to get us a clothes horse but never delivered. We requested dish cloths but no response. We told Emma that there was a dangerous situation with the septic tank in the garden but no response. Even though the cottage is technically closest to the beach it is practically the furthest because you have to walk past all the other cottages to get to the beach. Property could do with a grill and freezer. It is a great cottage but a little shabby. Heating system is good. Despite all the above we really enjoyed our stay.

  • "This is our 5th stay at the property, in that 5 years the central heating has never worked, neither has the downstairs shower."

Inside the property needs to be painted and a good maintenance carried out. We book this property because of the location and we have always found it clean and we know what to expect.

It is spacious and functional but the finish feels like a student house. Garden completely wild, a bedroom door coming off hinges, downstairs shower not working, lack of items such as teapot, coffeepot, or chopping board in kitchen etc.... Dugort is a great location, food in the strand hotel is good, there is also a small shop. Great for water sports and for families

  • "We had a previous very positive experience with a Hogans cottage and so we had high expectations."

The location of this facility was excellent and as described. The place was clean on arrival. However the property was lacking any effort to make it really comfortable. There were no blinds on any of the four skylight bedroom windows. The other windows had the cheapest most transparent curtains possible. We had to buy tinfoil and sellotape to cover up the windows to enable us to sleep past sunrise. This meant we were unable to appreciate views from bedroom windows during the daytime. Very dissappoiting. Everything had the feeling of the cheapest job possible to finish. We couldn't access wifi and eventually found a router but the account had no credit on it. A welcome booklet about the houses facilities would have been helpful to explain where this was and the credit should have been topped up. Certain things available at the previous location would have made our stay more comfortable, a high chair, a coffee maker, more pots, one decent knife, an grill that you could use without smoking out the whole house, some oven trays (we had to buy one), garden furniture and a bbq and just a general effort to make the place feel like some effort went in to makng it homely. My standards were high after our last experience. Next time I think I'll just air bnb it.

  • "The location is superb and it was made great by 2 weeks of fantastic weather."

as with some other Irish owners more effort could of gone into making the property excellent. Everything was OK but the outside of the house was a building site. In comparison to the prevoius property the bedding towels etc were clean but very basic quality. The felt the owner lacked interest in maximising what he had. I would of paid more happily if he ungraded it all.
