Smart TVs dishwasher microwave oven fridge freezer this cottage had everything needed to relax unwind and enjoy the surrounding countryside and villages Ballina about 5k away and Crossmolina 4k. • "The cottage was just perfect and the welcome we received was just so lovely."

The fire was lit. There was a Christmas tree and Christmas lights. There was wine, milk and butter in the fridge and delicious homemade scones. My partner, who is French, was overwhelmed by the hospitality that he had never seen before! It was his first trip to Ireland. The cottage is so cosy and a beautiful balance between old fashioned and modernised. I would love to stay there again when I come to see my family in Ballina.

Beautiful and warm with plenty of space. Owner's were really lovely and even brought us soup one night when the power went out in the area. Fresh scones on arrival and even a Christmas tree set up for our kids. Would definitely recommend.

  • "Kate's cottage is absolutely beautiful."

It had everything anyone could possibly need for a week's holiday and more. We were made SO very welcome by the homeowner. Fresh flowers on the beautiful antique hall table were a lovely touch. Home baked scones were provided for us to have with a cuppa on our arrival. A warm fire was burning to keep off the first chills of Autumn and the house was toasty and cosy. The furniture and furnishings were of good quality. There were plenty of new towels and loo rolls in the bathroom along with a selection of toiletries in case we had forgotten ours. The bathroom/wetroom was perfect for myself. As an amputee , having the fold down shower seat was invaluable and really enhanced my stay. The beds were comfortable and we slept really well, better than we do at home! There was plenty of fuel provided daily for the open fire and log burner so we never had to worry about getting to the store to buy more. The cows and donkey were a lovely distraction for our animal loving 6yr old, who loved watching the cows playing together whilst eating her breakfast, then putting her wellies and raincoat on to run outside and talk to them over the fence. Overall this was possibly the best property that we have rented in Ireland and we have had many rental cottages over the past 20+ years.

  • "We had a very comfortable stay in this charming cottage set in the lovely Irish countryside with sheep and cows as neighbours."

Caroline was very welcoming and showed us round the spacious rooms and provided many extras such as homemade scones, butter, jam, milk and even a bottle of wine. There was an ample supply of peat for the fire which we enjoyed on a couple of cool nights while watching the huge TV above the fireplace. We highly recommend this property and look forward to another visit in the near future.

Discovered the wonderful River Deel and where to fish it and with Pontoon Bridge up the road and the Moy down the road more fishing adventures wait hopefully. Fully recommend Hiney's pub in Crossmolina for food and refreshments and returning to Kate's Cottage with turf provided for extra comfort was a real tonic for Fido and myself. So thanks again Katherine and family and hope to book again soon.

The house had ample, clean rooms which were very comfortable. Gardens and surrounding scenery were a treat and the location gives all the peace of country life with Crossmolina village nearby and Ballina city also at hand. The area offers great sport nearby with great rivers and loughs and the people are friendly and helpful. The turf fire in the evening with fuel provided was great and would like to finish by thanking Catherine and family for a very memorable holiday.

This really is a great spot if you want a country getaway. Wonderful location. Warm, quiet and comfortable and plenty of free fuel for the fires. Scones and chilled white wine on arrival. Would rebook without hesitation. Many thanks again and hope to see you in the future.

  • "Firstly the owners are very nice and welcoming and kept us provided with fuel for the stove."

I am so sorry to say that this was the worst cottage we have ever booked and we book many. While we understood that this cottage is very old and the furnishings etc reflect the age of the cottage there is no excuse for the lack of cleanliness. This property is in serious need of upgrade. The worst room is the bathroom. The toilet handle just spun round. The hose on the shower is caked in dirt and rust. The tiles on the wet room floor were dirty and still had hair from previous renters. The radiators are very dirty and years of fluff and dust inside. The light switches were greasy and dirty. There was fluff and hairs at the bedside cabinets. We were so disappointed that we cut our holiday short and went home. With a serious upgrade and deep cleaning this has the potential to be a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.

Thank you for your feedback. I called and met you at the property on Sunday and it’s a pity you did not share any grievances you had then. I also gave you the opportunity to call if you had any issues as I live next door. Property Owner

The cottage is well located in the countryside with a short drive into Ballina and not too far from Crossmolina also. Everything you need is there and Caroline & family have ensured a personal and homely touch. We stayed there for a week, with our young family, during the Ballina Salmon Festival- lots of activities in and around the town and great beaches are not too far away at Enniscrone and Ross Beach near Killala. I have been with my mother and my dog since November in Ireland and without a doubt the best. very very clean and cozy, very spacious rooms and great kitchen. Apart from this, which is already great, the family welcomed us with some sweets and a bottle of wine. The views that we had from the table with umbrella that they have outside, are impressive. The owner was so kind that he made us witness the birth of three lambs. We will never forget it. We will definitely return, both for the owners who are charming and for the house, which is a 10.

Everything is well thought out and there when needed. One of the things that I really liked were the prevalence of the 1960's features like the fireplaces. They really give the place huge charm. The location is really great and there is a lovely walk along the adjoining lane. It goes for miles. Also, there is great access to many of the attractions in County Mayo. The cottage is warm and comfortable with both central heating and logs supplied for the stove and open fire. There is a large garden area to sit out in when weather permits and the views are spectacular. In a very very quiet place. Ideal for a totally relaxing time out, which was what we needed. Next pub and shop 10 minutes by car in Crossmolina. The cottage is 3 miles from the main road - not one mile as indicated in the description. We nearly panicked when we couldn’t find it on the first day and the host didn’t answer the phone - only to be greeted by a lovely host lady who was worrying why we were so late and who had left scones and home made bread for us in the cottage. Thank you again!

Thank you for your feedback. The owner can only apologise for the issues you had regarding the directions, this has now been reviewed to make it easier for guests to find. Updated telephone numbers with international dialing codes have also been added and a landline number to ensure that the owner is available at all times for guests.
