BALLYCROY, COUNTY MAYO
Mulranny 9.5 miles; Belmullet 23 miles; Westport 28 miles.
Ballycroy is a village in County Mayo, in a lovely coastal area known for its great sailing conditions and also for the superb angling, and salmon and sea trout fishing on offer in the area surrounding it. Ballycroy itself has two pubs and a shop, and is also home to Ireland's sixth National Park. The visitor centre for the park is easily found in the centre of the village, and with its tearoom and insight into life in the park, makes for a great starting point for your time exploring the 11,000 acres of bog and mountainous terrain. A little further afield but within easy reach is the popular bustling tourist town of Westport, well worth a visit with a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars, and alive with traditional music and rich Irish heritage. Another must see of the area is Clew Bay, a stunning and majestic formation of some 100 small islands located at the foot of Croagh Patrick, a 2500 ft mountain which is an important site for pilgrimage, and, for the more energetic, a wonderful day’s walk.
