“Fantastic house, but some annoying problems”
Initially our reaction to Cnoc Suain was, WOW!!
What a beautiful looking property, huge rooms, very well equipped, fantastic views; what more could you ask for! 10 of us stayed here for one week early in October. We received a very warm welcome from Ciaran, the owner of the property, and he showed us around and took a small deposit from us. The rental price was excellent value for money, £380 split 10 ways, it really was a no brainer. Although we were happy with the house overall we did have a few little issues with it.
2 bedrooms have en suites, 2 bedrooms have joint access to another bathroom, but the 5th bedroom does not have an en suite or dedicated bathroom. There is a toilet and hand basin downstairs, but the 5th bedroom users have to share the en suites in order to have a shower. May seem like a small issue, but it can be annoying trying to coordinate bathroom use.
Also you do not have access to hot water 24 hours. The boiler works for a few hours in the morning and the same at night. I understand that oil prices in Ireland are very high, but I don't feel that it's appropriate for a luxury holiday home to severely restrict the times a person can have a hot shower.
We didn't find the oven to be very good at all. It didn't get up to temperature even when set to maximum.
Finally, there is a little sound proofing issue. Many of the internal walls seem to be stud and these, therefore, let almost all sound through. So despite being a HUGE house, you lacked privacy as you could hear everything that was going on.
Overall, despite the problems, I would whole heartedly recommend staying here. The house is beautiful, very well equipped and in a fantastic location. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway break where you can let go of stress and anxiety then I can think of no better place.
Thank you Ciaran and Mary for a fantastic week, and I hope that you have continued success with Cnoc Suain.
