  • "Very cosy place."

Warm welcome by Chris, the owner. A nice place to return to. The Sligo area has so much to offer that we did not manage all we had been looking forward to. The nature around Sligo is stunning. We very much enjoyed our walks to Coney Island, the Devil’s Chimney or the hike to Queen Maeve‘s grave. Also the Strandhill people’s market at Sligo airport was lovely, with artist Tony Osborne‘s display of outstanding paintings. 5 stars for both Chris‘ cottage and the Sligo area.

  • "We had a lovely week at the Old Byre."

Our two boys (7 & 10) were so happy in such a calm and comfortable space. The weather was unseasonably wet and chilly when we visited Ireland but the cottage is so cosy and warm it did not matter. We spent most evenings in the sun room looking out towards the mountains - magical. The cottage is located a short distance from several beaches and the shops, pubs and restaurants of Sligo so there is loads to do and discover.

  • "An absolutely gorgeous cottage, with everything you need to make you comfortable."

From the moment we arrived and took in the views from the very cosy conservatory, right up to the wood burner and spiral staircase to the loft bedroom, the whole place is designed to make you feel at home and relaxed. It’s a cosy place to enjoy when it is raining, and it is close enough to the facilities of town as well as easy access to lakes and seafront and hills when the weather is good. Our host was incredibly welcoming and ensured we had a really easy start to our trip with a very well-stocked welcome basket and personal tour which was much appreciated! The conversion of the property has maintained so much original character while ensuring that you can have all you need for a comfortable modern stay. Would highly recommend, and hope to be back ourselves!

The property is a unique conversion making a very comfortable holiday home - we particularly enjoyed relaxing in the sun room, and spending time outside in the various secluded seating areas. Would definitely return if in the area. Thanks Chris.

The location just outside Sligo is perfect and the views are spectacular. The accommodation is warm and comfortable and contains all you could reasonably need for an enjoyable stay. The welcome goodie basket was much appreciated. You need to be agile to negotiate the spiral staircase but that wasn’t a problem. Chris was kind and helpful throughout.

  • "The Old Byre is absolutely beautiful and Lynne and Chris are the most wonderful hosts."

They made us feel very welcome. The Old Byre is a home from home, which had a lovely welcome basket on arrival and lots of little extras, like a picnic basket, making the cottage so well stocked. My favourite place was the sun room which had the most glorious and relaxing views - I enjoyed reading there every day, whilst the little one played, and watching how the weather changed the scenery outside. In the evening we enjoyed the lounge with the roaring log burner making it extremely cosy. But the whole place was really pretty and very comfortable. Having never been to Sligo before, I would also recommend the location - it's beautiful and there were lots of places we have yet to visit, so we will be back! We thoroughly recommend the Old Byre for the location, the cottage and the wonderful, kind hosts, who we intend to keep in touch with!

  • "Due to poor weather and an increase in Covid 19 restrictions while we were there we spent more time in the cottage than we probably would have otherwise."

This was not a problem however because the cottage was incredibly cosy, especially with the wind and rain outside. The interior was absolutely beautiful with the stove and the spiral staircase being our favourite features. The outside was fantastic also; it is really quiet and feels like miles into the country despite being only a very short drive into Sligo town. The owners Chris & Lynne were fantastic also and ensured we had everything we needed.

Down a quiet country lane off a main road in County Sligo lies this lovely converted coach house, lying next to the owner's own home and outbuildings, The Old Byre is a pretty retreat with rural views.

Suited to a family of four or a couple wanting a romantic break, the interior has been thoughtfully decorated with light airy colours and charming pieces of furniture.

Step inside to be greeted by the centre-piece of the open-plan living space, the beautiful iron spiral staircase that draws you in, leading up to the mezzanine bedroom above.

Make yourself at home within the sitting area, where a woodburning stove can provide warmth on a cold evening, as the arched coach-style windows let in the last of the sun's light, you can settle into one of the sofas with a good book or glass of wine in hand.

As you relax, your loved one can be preparing a delicious meal in the kitchen area across the way, chopping up ingredients on the timber worktop, before serving it up when it's ready at the pretty country-style dining table.

Steal a quiet moment within the snug reading room at the end of the property, accessed through a stable door from the kitchen, where a quirky brick and wooden table feature holds several books and windows offer views out of three sides of this little corner, creating a sun-room effect.

Catch your rest at the other end, where you can find the bunk bed room with lovely touches throughout and a warming antique radiator.

Ascend up the spiral staircase and relax within the beautiful double bedroom, where a white-washed bed frame and bedside tables create a lovely decor underneath the slanted timber ceiling, all in all offering an idyllic place to rest your head.

Freshen up in the shower room on the ground floor, where a gorgeous ornate mirror rests over the exposed red brick above the basin, a lovely spot to get ready in.

Enjoy breakfast in the warmer months sat out at the patio furniture, and in the evening when the temperature drops, light the chimenea to offer some heat.

Explore your wonderful surroundings and head into Sligo Town where there is an abundance of things to do.

Visit the beaches of Strandhill, Rosses Point, and Streedagh Beach for walks and waves, with a surfing school at Strandhill so you can experience the famous West Coast surf!

Play a round on the Strandhill Golf Club before heading back to Sligo for a refreshing Guinness and getting to know the lively streets of this coastal Irish town.

The Old Byre will be a brilliant getaway for you and your loved ones in Ireland.
