  • "Lovely, clean and cosy house in a quiet and picturesque location."

All rooms and beds and comfortable. Kitchen well-stocked with utensils, crockery, microwave and good oven. Cable TV and WiFi were reliable and the great little village of Stradbally has a good convenience store and pubs. Perfect location to explore Waterford especially the many clean beaches, cycling routes, museums, gardens, towns and tourist attractions. Thanks also to owners for advice on where to visit. Highly recommended.

  • "There were problems right from the very first night."

We arrived to discover that the water was contaminated and that it was a strange brown/yellow colour and completely unsafe to drink/use. Anne and her husband arrived to the house the next day (it was agreed that we would manage for the first night ourselves) and brought bottled water, that part was ok as we thought that this should be sorted out ASAP. The water had to be put through a filtration system which meant that Anne and her husband had to be in and out of the house, and we couldn't use the facilities etc. Also, there were no TV channels at all. So not a good way to start our holidays. We were told that the channels would be sorted that day and then that changed to Monday, and that didn't happen fully either. Anne was supposed to give the guy a key to access the house to tune in the channels. She didn't text me until nearly 5pm on Monday afternoon and we were already out. He was only able to tune Saorview in from outside the house. I also had to point out that the water still wasn't ok. Nobody checked up at all to make sure that the water was ok. This is a big deal but there was no sense of urgency at all on their part to ensure that everything was ok! I had a reply to my text to say that they would contact a company to call in and check the water but again I was never told when or what time. This didn't happen and I never heard anymore again about that or the outstanding issue with the TV channels. The guy arrived at the house late Wednesday afternoon unexpectedly (we were checking out Fri morning by 10am!) to sort the other channels. I received no communication about same and it just so happened that we were there! The communication considering what was going on throughout the week was really poor and we did not get what we paid for! On return I have since contacted Hogan's and my experience with them has almost been worse. I sent emails that were not replied to and I had to keep calling them to follow up on my complaint. In the end, I did not get the callback that I was promised, instead i received a brief message that I couldn't reply to telling me that the owners of the cottage refused to give a partial refund. Hogan's basically said that they wouldn't be doing anything more and closed the case. I was told that if I want to take anything further, then I would need to involve a third party! So I spent over a week trying to put my complaint forward and it was basically a complete waste of time. I will not be booking this cottage again, we were not treated well considering how serious the whole issue with the water was!! More importantly I will never book with Hogan's again. When it came down to it there is no support at all for customers, and customers are clearly not valued by either party. It has been an utterly disappointing and unsatisfactory experience all around. I do not recommend!

I’m sorry about Liz’s experience at my property. I completely understand that water is important – it is a basic need, and this is why when Liz contacted me that Friday night at 10pm I immediately apologised and offered to come down to her immediately, but she refused. I always run the water before a guest arrives, and the day before Liz arrived, I had run the water and it was perfect. We have not had a problem with the water with any of the guests after Liz. When Liz called me on Friday, it was agreed that she would contact me in the morning at her convenience to update me on the water. She contacted me the next day at 11am and said the water was unclear so we called down immediately. We were in the house twice, once to say hello and the other time to run the water. We knocked each time. I rang the water company, who told me they were very busy but would be down when they could. They gave me instructions over the phone of what to do. There are three filtration systems, and I set them all in place and ran the water until it was satisfactory to the guests, I left. Again, this was Saturday. Regarding the TV, I called the TV engineer and I told Liz about this on Saturday. He was away on his own holidays in Wexford. He said he would call on Monday, and I told Liz that he would call on Monday. When Monday came, the TV engineer called me and said nobody was there and he couldn’t get in. He is very booked and busy. I called Liz but she was out and couldn’t come back to let him in, so he had to go. He did what he could without being allowed into the house – which was to fix the saorview from outside the window. After leaving, he said the next free time slot he had was on Wednesday. I conveyed this to Liz. There are three televisions in the house, the main tv is a smart tv, the other two have saorview channels. Sometimes when guests use the smart tv they can wipe everything when they implement and close off their Netflix account. We think this is what happened to Liz. There is a hotel lock now on the smart tv so this can’t happen again. While I was on the phone with Liz on Monday, she mentioned in passing that she still wasn't happy with the water. I immediately called the water company again, and they said they were on their way. I told Liz that they were coming and to contact me straight away if she wasn't happy with the water. The water company do not need access to the house. I did not hear from Liz again. I have never received a bad review and I am sorry to hear about this as I try so hard to have everything as comfortable as possible so guests can enjoy their time to the fullest. Property Owner

  • "Carriganna cottage was beautiful and homely."

Near to stradbally village and cove. Beautiful setting. Lots of places to explore. Anne the lady we dealt with was extremely helpful, nothing was a problem for her. We are very happy with our experience there.

  • "The cottage was terrific, Very spacious and comfortable."

The large enclosed garden was ideal for Prince the German shepherd. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Left a welcome gift of nice bread and have a useful folder about Waterford. The nearby small town of Stradbally has only one shop but has an excellent salad bar - the potato salad is especially delicious. If you like walking there are many excellent bays and beaches - better in my opinion than Donegal and some terrific trails - I can recommend especially the Anne Valley walk. Overall a really excellent stay and a cottage and area that I can highly recommend. Great value for money
