  • "The sitting room furniture was a little uncomfortable maybe it needs an update."

All the bed were comfortable bar 1 of the single beds. These 2 things can be easily sorted. We did enjoy our stay in Derrywater house there was tons of room for everyone. The garden was stunning. Brian left loads of firewood, turf and coal for us. Brian also left milk, tea coffee and a bottle of wine , it was a nice touch. I would recommend Derrywater House

  • "This is a lovely property which I’ve stayed at twice now."

Gated driveway and set in a couple acres of lawned gardens. You can shut the gates and just chill out, letting the world go by. We use it as a base for the Punchestown festival and is a home from home. My dog absolutely loves it here.

The home is on a large elevated site with lovely views and was ideal for our family group, we loved watching the pheasant family roam around the garden too. Brian was a wonderfully informative and helpful host. We really enjoyed our time there!!

  • "Brian was a very helpful owner and responded very promptly to any messages or queries."

There was a leaky radiator during our visit but this was looked at the next day and replaced the day after . Lovely warm house with a great layout for a large group of people . The house is in large attractive grounds within easy walking distance from the village and we enjoyed the local walks and especially the Irish music in the local pub .

  • "We had a wonderful stay at your beautiful home!"

There was more than adequate space for our large group, and we absolutely loved the grounds as well! Relaxing in front of the fire in the cool evenings after our very busy days was such a welcome way to unwind. Additionally, thank you SO MUCH for going above and beyond by helping us find someone to assist us with our flat tire. We would have been lost without your help! We can, without reservation, recommend your home to other visitors!

  • "Thank you Brian for facilitating our stay of a large family group at your beautiful home."

Your advice of were to go was invaluable. We visited the monastic ruins at Glendalough, walked in the trees at Avondale and enjoyed the golden sands at Brittas Bay. The house was very spacious and full of character. We were fortunate enough to dine in the garden due to the beautiful weather as well as sampling Mickey Finns in Redcross and Wicklow Heather near Laragh. We would very much look forward to returning to see more of this beautiful county

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Derrywater."

The garden, grounds and house are beautiful and somewhere we would like to make our regular stay when we travel to Ireland. The washing machine was not working but the owners arranged collection and delivery of our washing which was washed for us, very helpful with 4 children! Nothing was too much trouble, communication was great, Brian was so helpful and friendly. We loved our time there!!

  • "This is a lovely property which is gated and thus providing excellent privacy."

Gardens are extensive and excellent for dog owners. Met with owner, Brian, who is passionate about the property he built and may return to live at some point in the future. Spacious and providing a great relaxing holiday. Used as a base to attend the Punchestown festival - a reasonable drive but a beautiful one up over the Wicklow mountains. Very enjoyable.

The property

This characterful Tudor style house is situated close to the village of Aughrim, a spacious four-bedroom property, with intriguing features and two acres of gardens sitting right on the doorstep.

Perfect for families or a group of friends, the enchanting interior is thoughtfully pieced together, with a comfy lounge, and a grand dining area which boasts plenty of seating, should you wish to host a gathering, or even just settle down with refreshments to admire the stone-work and exposed beams surrounding you.

With a wonderful woodburning stove, the warm ambience will guide you room to room, a cosy way to start any evening after a busy afternoon.

Discover the country cottage kitchen with its breakfast table, pew seating, and wooden units, neighboured by a helpful utility area for convenience.

Lastly, the ground floor benefits from an office, and a cloakroom.

Following the stairs up to the next level, you will be amazed by the layout, beginning with the twin bedroom, which leads through to the super king-size room, effectively designed with a freestanding bath.

Alternatively, choose the king-size bedroom introducing a series of beams, and its own en-suite Jacuzzi style bathroom.

Two doubles equally promise a good night's sleep, with a family bathroom and shower finishing the beauty of Derrywater House.

If you can steer yourself away from the acres of land, Aughrim is well-placed in a scenic spot, near where the Ow and Derry Rivers meet, overlooked by woodland hills in South County Wicklow.

In this neat village, there are a number of unusual granite terraced houses throughout the setting.

Aughrim offers a wide variety of activities with Fishing at the National Angling Centre or various walks to enjoy the local views in their entirety.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of €200.

About the location

AUGHRIM, COUNTY WICKLOW

Avoca 14 miles; Glendalough 16.4 miles; Dublin 44.5 miles.

Located roughly an hour’s drive south of Dublin city, Aughrim is a beautiful village, recently an all-Ireland tidy towns winner, set where several mountain valleys meet. The valley of the River Ow has fantastic scenery, and spreads north-west of Aughrim for about 10 miles to the base of Lugnaquilla Mountain. It is definitely worth a visit, with a selection of local pubs and restaurants, and landmarks such as the Old Mill and the local Catholic and Church of Ireland churches. As many buildings were constructed from locally-quarried Wicklow granite, Aughrim is locally known as "The Granite City".
