"The cottage is beautiful, there is so much room, its lovely and warm, we particularly loved the Aga!"
The family loved the claw footed baths! It is an old house, but that's its charm. It was spotlessly clean and we had a lovely cake included in our welcome pack! The location is great for walks and exploring the local area and just a short walk into the village.

"The property is in a lovely setting, the garden is very attractive."
Lovely and clean and had everything we needed for a family stay. The owner was friendly and helpful. The house is characterful and charming but somewhat tired especially the kitchen and the main living room. The furniture would benefit from updating as could the decor. It would have been useful to see a floor plan prior to booking due to the unusual layout of the bedrooms. The bathrooms were nicely done, but the beds themselves particularly in the rear bedroom were somewhat uncomfortable and sagging. Overall a nice stay, a beautiful location and good for a family holiday but definitely needs some updating.

"On initially entering the property there was a very evident\strong damp smell in the living area, this smell was also in the ground floor bedroom, however, after using the log burner for a few hours, the smell either dissipated or we became nose blind, the property generally is in a very well used condition, bordering on grubby, however, a good effort had been put into cleaning the house, the beds were very clean and comfortable, the bedding was exceptional, the ground floor bed room which we had to accommodate due to mobility issues was not the best bedroom in the house, ivy was growing through the window, the vintage wardrobe and drawers were unusable as they also smelled of damp, the upstairs rooms however were very well furnished and dressed, the only other problem with the property was the living room sofas, the leather one was ok,ish, the other two require replacing, the parquet flooring is unstable and a trip hazard, the front door is in need of freeing or a stronger handle fitted to allow a good slam to close it, the lock on the door may be in keeping with the property, but, it is a very basic lock and insecure which was very concerning, especially since there were no internal bolts we were able to use."

"The owner was very helpful with the enquires we had and we managed to get everything we wanted."
The cleaning company run by Mel went over and above her duties to help us out with a problem, extremely honest and trustworthy. Thank you

"An amazing property."
There was 9 adults and 2 dogs we had plenty of room. Lots of nice touches like tea towels, salt pepper all the little bits you need. Nice welcome gift and Mel was fast at responding and met us on arrival and showed us around the property. Lovely walk into the village which had a dog friendly cafe and pub. We will be back x

"We had an amazing 4 day Christmas holiday with our family in this lovely old property."
The owner and housekeeper were very friendly and helpful. Even a Christmas tree with baubles was provided so our grandchildren could decorate it themselves. It is extremely well equipped, much needed when catering for 10 over Christmas. Yes, there is some maintenance and perhaps a little more attention to cleaning required, but it is a large old house and we didn't expect perfection.

"The property was in a good location with all the facilities needed for our family of 10, during our week's stay."
The kitchen and dining areas were large enough for us all not to be on top of one another. The property has lots of character, but could do with a bit of a dust. There were many cobwebs in most of the rooms. There was a couple of picnic tables outside, which provided us somewhere to have a morning cuppa and take in the lovely view of the garden and surrounding area. Plenty of parking space too. The utility room was put to good use, being able to store our paddle boards there, rather than taking up space in the boot of a car.

"A great place to stay for a holiday, and a lovely house."
Only one suggestion; the markings on the Range’s control switches have worn off in places and made cooking a bit of a trial and error exercise. Repainting these would be helpful.

"A lovely cottage to share with extended family."
The garden was great and as the weather was beautiful we made the most of sitting/eating in it. We had a warm welcome and enjoyed exploring this quirky house. The only thing we were disappointed in was the steps in the ground floor en-suite bathroom. We didn’t realise that would be the case and it made it difficult for my disable mum to access the bathroom independently. We deliberately chose this cottage as it had downstairs facilities and we would not have booked it if we had realised. The steps into the kitchen we knew about and they were okay as she used these in the daytime when we could help her but during the night when everyone else was upstairs this proved difficult.

"Lovely holiday accommodation and suited our extended family (grandmother, family of 4 and my sister and her two kids)."
Lots of big clean bathrooms (some of the baths are snug) and great family dinner table, kitchen etc. All very clean and housekeeper and owner v helpful. The 3rd bedroom can be a thoroughfare through to the other two bedrooms but as we were a family & the adults changed in bathroom - it didn’t cause us any issues. V v quiet area - v peaceful. Lovely. We booked last min so discounted price - full price seemed a bit too high. Would return.

"Garfield House had everything we needed for our weekend away in Devon."
With 8 of us coming from north and south for our friends’ wedding, it was great to find somewhere that could accommodate us all (and our cars!) in such a beautiful and picturesque setting. The owners were so helpful throughout and we couldn’t recommend Garfield House enough!

"First impressions tatty on the outside ."
Porch in need of tlc. Inside the property was clean , beds very comfortable but signs of damp on the ceilings and wall . Just needs some money spent on it , then the property would be beautiful. We would stay there again but when the Summer weekly rental is c£3k would expect perfection. Beautiful location and the owners black cat was a welcome visitor .
Thank you for your feedback. Pleased you enjoyed you stay. We do have plans for the porch. Property Owner

"Spacious character house with lovely views We had a lovely family break with enough space in the house for all ten of us plus two dogs."
The children had room to play in the house and garden and enjoyed their own rooms and bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed and the dining area seated ten. We enjoyed our days out to Goodrington Sands and Bigbury and our walk along the pretty river to St Petroc's church. A good location for beaches and walks. Reviewed by Lynn April 2022

"The property was beautiful, it was perfect for our holiday getaway."
It was clean and immaculate on arrival with excellent communication from the house keeper to arrange the key collection. The bedrooms were cosy and comfortable, and offered everybody their own space and bathroom. The kitchen/dining room was a good size and fully equiped. We appreciated the wood pile left in the lounge for the fire, it was a nice touch and allowed us to light it on an evening. The gardens were stunning and it was a treasure to wake up to such an incredible view every morning! Sitting outside to eat when the sun was out was lovely, two benches provided gave us lots of room to set up. Lovely character property with a rustic feel, would definilty recommend and is in an excellent location with lots to see and do in the local area. Thanks for having us!

"Previous feedback stated the water had been sorted, it has not."
Shower dribbles out and you can only use 1 shower at a time so a house with 4 bathrooms is not much use.
Thank you for your feedback. On seeing your comments, the owner went round to the property to test all the showers and found them to be working perfectly well. Please do contact us during your stay so we can assist there and then. - The Owner Relations Team Property Owner

"Lovely spacious house, bedrooms and bathrooms fabulous, with ample towels and good linen."
Hot water was plentiful for everyone. The kitchen could do with a bit of a makeover, with better non-stick frying pans, and cutlery. Liked the dishwasher, cafetieres and 2 kettles! The large dining table is great for family meals, but the heat output of the Aga makes the room very hot, in fact the whole house is very warm, great for those who feel the cold. Some of the windows have dodgy catches, and some of the guttering outside needs replacing, heavy rain led to a bit of flooding in one place. The wood burner was a joy, and the owner supplied plenty of wood. The owner was very responsive to a request for ice cube trays and batteries for the TV remote. Altogether a very enjoyable holiday experience.
Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. The window catches and guttering will be checked and replaced where necessary. The AGA is set at a temperature required for cooking. All the radiators have thermostats on them, so the temperature can be adjusted. We are glad that you had an enjoyable stay at the property. Property Owner

"Great cottage with great views."
It is bigger than the photos give it credit. Facilities are great and everything was there we could possibly have needed. Only one thing, the plumbing does need looking at, it was almost impossible to have a decent shower with the water pressure as it was.

"Loved staying at Garfield House and hope to return."
The ensuite bathrooms were wonderful, though we did have a few problems controlling the taps! For our particular group accessing 2 of the bedrooms through the 3rd was slightly awkward and we thought it would be easy to resolve this by making a corridor through. Also taking the cars out involved turning them further up the steep hill. But we enjoyed a very good walk from the house and several of us walked down to the village and back. Personally I loved the curtains in my bedroom and bathroom.
Thank you for your feedback. I have discussed your comments with the owner who has arranged for a plumber to visit the property. Property Owner

"Mel the property caretaker and John the owner were very quick to solve the problem we had with broken chairs."
This was much appreciated. The house is lovely but could do with a bit of a clean was bit dusty in places. Beds had very soft mattresses. Could do with bit of decorating as paint peeling in some places. The water pressure is not very good we could not have more than one shower on at the same time and the pipes were very very noisy. The house was in a good location to explore .
Thank you for your feedback. I have discussed your comments with the owner who will address the cleanliness issues. Mattresses are a personal preference and difficult to get right to cater for everyone. We are sorry that on this occasion it wasn't the right fit for you. The owner will be repainting over the winter period, as well as having a plumber visit the property. Property Owner

"Lovely house full of character in a beautiful setting with fantastic views."
what more can I say.

"We spent five nights at Garfield House towards the end of September with our dogs."
The house is perfectly placed for many picturesque walks along the river and is walking distance from Dartmoor with amazing views as well as being close enough to the sea for an easy drive to the coast. Our host Tony was very welcoming to us and to the dogs . He even made us a pie as a welcome present and was on hand to answer any queries we had. He always replied very quickly to our texts. The house itself is in a lovely spot, around a mile from the village of South Brent which has a Co Op and several places to find takeaway food, fish & chips and a newly opened grill. Ivybridge is also a 15 minute drive away if you need more options. The views from the house are lovely and it has its own mature gardens with some ancient trees and pretty shrubs. The house itself is quite old and probably could do with updating inside and out. Inevitably due to its age it does feel tired. Having said that, the beds are very comfortable and the house is very spacious with four large bedrooms, three of which have en suite bathrooms. The kitchen is well stocked and includes a dishwasher and large fridge so it has everything it needs for a comfortable stay.

"Beautiful country house set in a lovely peaceful location."
The house has all the joy and quirks of an large old house. We had a very happy stay and Tony the host was friendly, kind and always available to help. We loved the surprise of homemade scones. I'm sure we will visit again.

"The house was really disappointing."
Everything was very tired. The mattress were filthy and stained the kitchen was filthy and the sofas so uncomfortable as they were so old and have lost their padding! The house was absolutely beautiful but in desperate need of decoration and a good clean and better upkeep There were no outside lights working, many lightbulbs blown, lamps that couldn’t be used,,, it goes on! As you opened cupboards things you wanted to use were mouldy and it felt and smelt musty and damp It is a old property so some of that is to be expected but not to this extent We were only in the property for 4 nights so we made the best of it. Had it been longer I couldn’t have stayed. I think especially with Covid a higher level of cleanliness is expected and it wasn’t met. We felt unclean The owner was friendly and I got the impression it was just him looking after this huge house and grounds alone. We felt sorry for him so didn’t want to complain! However after being asked for feedback honesty is important We really feel the house is too much for him to maintain! It needs work to bring it up to a rentable standard Wouldn’t stay again and wouldn’t recommend. Sorry .
Thank you for taking the time to leave your valuable feedback. I am very sorry for your experience at Garfield House. The property is very old which means it has some quirks. I have addressed the issues raised and discussed the cleanliness issues with my team and once again would like to thank you for your feedback we really do appreciate it. Property Owner

"A beautiful cottage set in a lovely countryside location."
We were met by the owner who was very welcoming, he showed us around and gave us the keys. Everything was perfect. I would definitely stay at this property again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

"Had a really pleasant time at Garfield house which is big and roomy."
Bedrooms were good size and very comfortable. Surroundings are idyllic, we were looking for a quite family time away from the city and it met our expectations. The patron was welcoming and friendly. We would recommend this place highly.
