water decanters in all the bedrooms was very welcomed. the beds were so clean, fresh and comfortable if i could have stuffed one in my bag to bring home i would have. we did a lot of walking, swimming and an array of other activities, i was exhausted by the evenings but these amazingly comfortable high class beds rested me well enough for the next days challenges with no problem. very quiet area, the nearest beach is a pebble beach which was nice but we found Sidmouth beach far better for our beach days as it was the most beautiful sandy beach that was dog friendly. all the hustle and bustle of the beaches was exchanged for the beautiful peace and quiet of the countryside at night, we had the best of both worlds on our 7 day stay. mike and Louise were the perfect hosts, allowed us the privacy to enjoy our stay but always there if we needed them, mike provided us extra wood for the chimenea so we could enjoy late evenings outside. we highly recommend this beautiful old farmhouse with its inglenook fireplaces and a bath to die for. i've always rented cottages and farmhouses for my breaks but this one stands out for the sheer comfort and cleanliness. definitely a 5* property. thankyou mike & louise for an enjoyable week. julie & family
Situated in a quiet hamlet. Great for kids & dogs (so long as you can stop them both from chasing the chickens!) Some great beaches etc within 20-30 min drive
“A very old, quirky, spacious farmhouse with lots of period features.”
In need of TLC regarding windows, stairs and the 'singing' water pipes. Comfortable beds, lovely clean white towels and lashings of piping hot water. Enjoyed the challenge of 1st time Aga cooking. Bat colony in the adjacent granary and roof of the house amazing! General feedback from all is "It is what it is".
“The house was absolutely beautiful but it would of been nice to of had a secure garden for the dog rather than a back door that opened straight onto an open farmyard full of chickens.”
Luckily our dog is very well behaved. A dishwasher would of been nice washing up after sw end each mealtime was quite laborious. Sadly the doors and windows not particularly secure and the low level windows on the first floor would of been a little scary if we had young children as there were no locks or restrictions except in the one single bedroom. The barbecue was was dirty and full of wood. Beautiful cottage but more geared towards adults only wanting to dine out all the time.
“Rock Cottage was fabulous and very comfortable with tons of space.”
Very thoughtful touches made throughout and hosts very nice and helpful. The Farm was very well situated for exploring the Devonshire coastline. Nowhere was too far. The 2 dogs also had a fabulous time in the cottage and in the countryside. Would definitely recommend.
“Real "old Devon farmhouse" feel.”
Hens and goats in yard. Very welcoming hosts. Great place. Excellent location for south and east Devon/Dorset border.
“Property well described and on a good road for exploring.”
Owners very pleasant and helpful. Lovely comfortable bedrooms with good quality matresses and linen.Soft white towels. Plenty of hot water. Stairs could be challenging for small children or anyone with mobility problems as steep and twisting . Lots of downstairs space. The kitchen was adequate but limited worktops for meal preparation and serving if occupied by the full number of guests. No alternative to cooking on the Aga except for a small microwave. The Aga could become very hot, so a hazard for children. Only one sink and draining board and no dishwasher, so quite a task for guests. Space out the back for relaxing and eating . A grassed area for children to play . Sorry to shorten our stay as heavy snow forecast and we were obliged to depart only having spent four nights there.
Spacious accommodation with welcoming hosts next door. Handy for touring east Devon. Rustic accommodation but full of character and well equipped
“We had such a relaxing stay.”
It was fantastic for the children. There were plenty of areas outside where the children could play. The children throughly enjoyed feeding the pigs and collecting the eggs.
“The cottage was lovely in a great setting.”
The owners were very friendly. We had fresh eggs from their chickens every day. The attention to detail in the cottage was extremely good, and the welcome pack was the best we have had yet . Would definitely recommend this cottage.
