  • "Had a fabulous family holiday at the Hayloft."

11 of us ranging from 80yrs to teens. 3 dogs , great walled garden so able to run about freely. Stuart the owner friendly and very accommodating. All bedrooms good size and so good all having own bathroom. 2 of our party limited mobility - the largest of bedrooms with barn door to outside / garden was fabulous and a walk in shower with disability aids. Would recommend a stay for any large family group. Quiet surroundings but central to M5 and others areas

Stu the owner was always on hand for any little issues and was very helpful, approachable and friendly. The perfect venue for a great family holiday. • "Thank you to the owners of this property for such a wonderful stay."

We were celebrating a surprise 30th weekend away with family and friends, which also included three dogs and three children. The house was absolutely perfect as it allows plenty of space for entertaining in the main living areas as well as excellent bedroom sizes. The house is presented really well and the beds are extremely comfortable! We loved every second of our stay in the house and although the owners are nearby, they were very respectful and were in no way intrusive. They were always on hand if we needed anything and made our stay very comfortable and relaxing! The outside space was excellent with plenty of parking, a lovely size garden which overlooks beautiful green space. We loved the fact that the garden was fully enclosed meaning our dogs and kids were all very safe and secure. The property had everything we needed for a comfortable stay including iron, ironing board, high chair, travel cot etc. The property is set in a beautiful location and within 10 minutes drive is the small town centre and a large Tesco supermarket. Everything about our stay was perfect, waking up to the gorgeous view and being cosy by the wood burner in the evening, it was perfect.

  • "Wonderful property : four generations of our family came together over the new year period, for my 89 year old father who has mobility challenges, the accessible room was brilliant ( we did take our own shower seat, for anyone to whom this is important)."

Our 4 (24-34years old) children plus partners used the games room every evening, (and childhood rivalries still exist!). Everybody having their own en-suites was fantastic and the communal room a joy for family meals. The kitchen was very well stocked and the bedding excellent, the secure garden for the dogs was a real bonus. 11 adults, a baby & 3 dogs had a lovely time and memories were made. This property provided everything we needed and much more.

  • "We had an awesome time at The Hay Loft!"

The owners clearly put a lot of thought into how to accommodate large groups, we were particularly impressed with each room being fitted with modern ensuite bathrooms and we really enjoyed the large communal space with a large dining table and log burner to make the place feel cosy. It's a pity the weather was bad as the garden and patio would have added even more to the trip. Many thanks to Stuart for being so accommodating and allowing total flexibility during the stay!

  • "The Hayloft was perfect for our holiday."

It is spacious enough for a large group, yet the owners have managed to make it homely. The beds are comfortable, with good quality linen and towels, and the kitchen is really well-equipped. The views are wonderful, we enjoyed looking around the owners' organic edible flower gardens, and there is plenty to do do locally.

  • "We were a family group with 3 dogs, 7 adults and a 1 year old baby - the house was perfect for all of us."

The garden is secure so the dogs were able to be outside and it was flat and well kept so our granddaughter could walk around without tripping. The games room was perfect for pre dinner games and for the rainy days. The house was well equipped throughout and with all kitchen equipment you could need if you like to cook on holiday, plenty of crockery, glassware, cutlery and serving platters and well kept, there is a washing machine and tumble dryer if you need them and inside and outside drying lines ( perfect for rainy England) and there are stair gates top and bottom to the mezzanine, a travel cot and bedding, high chair and baby cutlery was all provided on request, the beds were comfy and the bed linen and towels good quality and the dressing gowns were a nice touch. The owners were on hand if needed but not intrusive and friendly and welcoming- Stuart even strimmed the path into the orchard to enable us to walk the dogs first thing before going out properly. The flower salad was amazing. All in all none of us had a bad word to say about the house, grounds or equipment. We were all sad to leave.

  • "A beautiful, well equipped accommodation in a peaceful corner of Devon."

Plenty of space for 12 people. As our party had two motorised wheelchair users, access was important. This was not an issue as one bedroom had level access to the patio and all ground floor facilities, with an en suite that had a wheel in shower with shower stool if needed. ( no hoists or specialist beds but this wasn't a problem for us as we take portable equipment). The owners are amazingly accommodating and welcoming.

  • "We had a lovey week at the Hayloft and enjoyed the Cottage and its beautiful surroundings."

It was particularly nice to have ensuite bathrooms to each room. However there were two things that we think could have been done better during our stay. 1)Although the cottage was clean it did have a large amount of flies. They would settle on your face when you were sleeping and were over everything in the kitchen and living area. We did not leave any food on surfaces and bought fly spray, but they were pretty persistent. We mentioned this to the owner who said it was because we were on a farm and he did not attempt to do anything about it. Although we were staying on a farm it was not a livestock farm ( flower farm). Also, I would have thought that if this was an issue the owners would have tried to do something about it. 2) One of the posts on the balcony was very loose which we noticed on the first night and we told the owner. We were particularly concerned as we had young children in our party and told the owner as we were worried about the children being on the balcony (as the loose post meant that they could have fallen through). The owner did not fix this or temporarily secure the area during our stay which meant that the children could not use the large master bedroom balcony. We were visiting during a nice weather week in August and this was a shame.

We were welcomed with a delicious home made cake by the owner, tea, coffee and milk. The house was everything we could of hoped for and more, and accommodated all of our varied needs for three generations of family and furbaby. The games room was a great addition to the house and the garden secure for our dog. The young ones in the group enjoyed the mezanine gallery. We all enjoyed a couple of BBQs in the garden which was idyllic with all the flowers surrounding the property and beautiful views. The location is perfect for site sighting and visiting the many attractions, towns, villages, countryside and coast. There is only one negative, we would have loved to have stayed longer.

The games room with kids toys, dart board and table tennis was very much used and enjoyed. The house was easy to access being just off the M5 and was a great location for so many days out. All the bedrooms are excellent, with en-suites in every one. The kitchen is very well equipped, although we mostly used the barbeque, as we had perfect weather all week. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here, the location is so convenient, just a couple of miles from the M5, but no vehicle noise can be heard whilst relaxing in the lovely garden.

  • "We were welcomed by Stuart who kindly told us about good local dog and family walking areas."

He also attempted to ready the ponds for one of the children to do some fishing, though he said it needed a little more attention than he could give it at the time. He seemed quite busy readying a field for ploughing. We appreciated the delicious and welcoming home-baked cake, pretty with edible flowers from the farm, thank you. We enjoyed the guest information folder, which makes for hilarious reading! The Hayloft was a light, airy, warm and comfortable home for our week exploring Devon. The living and bedroom space is brilliantly apportioned, suiting our needs perfectly. As a family of seven adults, two children and our dogs, we loved the large dining table and open plan kitchen, chock full of every utensil one could wish for when cooking meals for a large group. We did wonder if the crockery etc could be arranged slightly differently to allow an empty cupboard for food storage. We cooked meals from scratch every night bar one, when we ate out. Though we didn't use it this time, we thought the option mentioned in the guest folder of having meals cooked and brought in to us was rather nice . The ground floor seating area was comfortable and there was even a wipe-clean dog bed available. The children especially enjoyed playing upstairs on the softer mezzanine area, which was also a cosy spot for bedtime story-time. They also thought the games room was fabulous, of course. It was wonderful to have en-suite bath/shower rooms with each bedroom. The showers were brilliant, very powerful, even when two or more were in use at the same time. The eldest of our party, in her 70s would have liked a shower mat as she found it slippery underfoot. There was plenty of hot water, heated by solar panels. We did have to try three of the baths before we found one which had a working plug to keep the water in for the children to have their baths, though. Most of our party commented on how exceptionally comfortable the beds are, with lovely cotton bed linen, but the mattresses in the ground floor bedroom nearest the balcony could do with replacing. The children and our dogs enjoyed the garden and we loved the view beyond. The large outdoor table and chairs would have been ideal for alfresco dining, but we hadn't realised the date of our booking would coincide with the daily spreading of muck on the nearby field about to be ploughed! One day and evening it was particularly pungent, even indoors with the windows closed and home-made fisherman's pie for dinner. We would happily return to the Hayloft, but would check first about this understandably necessary event on the farm's calendar. Maybe we were just unfortunate with the direction the wind chose to blow during our stay!

Stuart was very accommodating, offering to keep an eye on the dogs if we wanted to leave them for a few hours and also asked us to call or see him if we wanted to know anything about where to go etc. We weren't the quietest group; celebrating a 30th birthday and an engagement all in one, but I never once felt that this affected Stuart and Jan who said hi every time we saw them. I thought we would make more use of the games room which is brilliant and had darts, books a ping pong table and also stuff for the kids (nit that we had any with us, but plastic kitchen play, skittles and probably more) but the house was so well suited for a social group, even though there were 12 of us, that we never did. I planned a skydive when I went as there is an airfield in dunkeswell 5 miles away so I would advise anybody to check that out! The only thing I think I would suggest is perhaps a sign for the hay loft at the guests entrance as I initially drove past maddocks farm as I was looking for the hay loft and then drove into maddocks farm having missed it, but the hay loft is immediately before maddocks farm. extremely minor point! I would love to book this place again!
