  • "We had a delightful week at Robyn Cottage."

The cottage is lovely, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. The welcome pack was indeed welcome. Otterton itself was fab with the well stocked community shop and we indulged at the Mill more than once. We were prepped for the predicted storms and weather so it didn't dampen our fun. The cottage is so cosy! We love the area, reliving childhood memories in Exmouth and Budleigh, while exploring Sidmouth too. It was refreshing how dog friendly everywhere was, so I think ours had a pretty good break too.

  • "What a lovely holiday, Robyn Cottage is perfect, clean, everything you could possibly need, lovely enclosed garden, which was ideal for our two dogs, and an awesome shower!"

! Otterton itself is a lovely village, great little shop, a pub that does great food (always best to pre book), Otterton Mill is fantastic, good food there too. Lots of local walks, about 3 miles along the River Otter to Budleigh Salterton, also the fields at the back of the cottage are ideal for dog walks. For days out, there is Exmouth, we took a cruise up the river ex which was nice, Sidmouth is walkable, well worth a visit. Bicton Botanical gardens is a 5 minute drive & is a must. We will hopefully be returning late next year, Thank you to Lesley the owner, who is not obtrusive, but only a phone call away if needed. Mark & Kim 17th-24th June 2023.

Thank you Mark for your excellent review. So pleased you had a good time. Mmh think I need to try the walk to Sidmouth - as you suggest, it’s not that far. So that’s three beaches you can walk to, not two - amazing. Property Owner

Most importantly therefore, yes, the property and all the kitchen utensils were perfectly clean. Did everything work? Yes, and better we heard from Lesley in advance that the hairdryer didn’t so made alternative arrangements. Better than that, although we actually took a bag of our own logs and kindling, there was a good supply at the property, useful as the weather was a bit damp for our week. Other incidentals that visitors might like to know, at the time of our visit, the village pub, the Kings Arms, was open everyday serving decent food and importantly, four well kept cask ales and there’s a community shop, open for essentials. Information on everything else, walking and local attractions for example, of which there is obviously plenty of both, is found elsewhere.

The property

Otterton is a pretty village in one of Devon's most beautiful coastal valleys between the stylish Regency town of Sidmouth and the Victorian resort of Budleigh Salterton.

On the approach to the village is Otterton Mill, a working water mill powered by the River Otter, around which has grown up a cafe serving delicious food, an exhibition gallery showing local arts and crafts and a venue where popular music nights take place.

In Otterton is Robin Cottage, a Grade II listed thatched property full of character and utterly charming.

Everything here has been carefully chosen, in the comfortable lounge there is a wood burning stove and the smart kitchen/diner which has a tiled floor and wooden table and chairs overlooks the garden.

A wooden spiral staircase leads to two very pretty bedrooms, a double with views over the garden towards the hills beyond and a second smaller bedroom at the front of the cottage.

The sheltered garden is enclosed and laid to lawn with a small patio area, table and chairs.

The beach at Ladram Bay is only half a mile away, here pale grey shingle contrasts against the deep, rich, red cliffs and you can join the South Devon Coast Path.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

OTTERTON

Budleigh Salterton 3 miles; Sidmouth 3 miles.

Set back from the coast among the rolling green countryside and wooded valleys of beautiful East Devon, this pretty village with its collection of traditionally thatched roofed cottages is straight from a picture postcard. Offering a quieter but no less beautiful holiday destination than the rest of the county it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind, and is just 3 miles from the Regency coastal resort towns of both Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and one mile from the SW Coastal Path as it meanders above the waves towards the World Heritage Site ‘Jurassic Coast’ beaches with their abundant fossils. Ladram Bay with its red-stone sea stacks is just one mile away. Inland, footpaths follow the banks of the River Otter where fox, badger and birdlife play while just down the road from the village is Bicton Park and Botanical Gardens, 60 acres of garden lovers’ paradise. For a really interesting hour or two, visit the last working flour mill on the river Otter - it’s in the village and the flour is superb. There’s much to do and see in this beautiful and unspoilt area but if you want to explore further afield, the open spaces and high tors of Dartmoor can be reached in under an hour while the Cathedral city of Exeter with its superb shopping centre, cinemas, clubs and restaurants is a mere 10 miles.

Note: Care is needed on wooden stairs to first floor. Parking is on road, however there are no restrictions and you can usually park just outside the cottage.

Note: Pets are charged at £30.00 per pet, per week (or short break)Note: For any holiday starting between 16th September and 27th May, a heating supplement of £20 will be added to the cost of your holiday.

This property offers the following short breaks:
