  • "I think from Sykes point of view the cottage needs to be accurately described, the steps are difficult to negotiate if you are older, small children or with baggage."

To call the space at the back a courtyard is stretching a point. The cottage is damp and in the sitting room the paint is flaking. There is no stair rail at the top of the stairs. We never managed to park outside. We had significant problems and had no television for the last week, it suddenly stopped working unless you watched it with two boxes on the picture. The owner brought an old television and box which he put on the coffee table reducing the already small space even more and he wanted to return because he hadn’t set it up properly.. I specifically asked him not to bother any more at the end of the week but he arrived unannounced and put the old telly back on the wall, we were trying to go to dinner. The Wi-Fi stopped working and we had none for the last week. During the last week it felt as if the owner was living at the property, he kept saying that the issues would be resolved the next day, they weren’t, he came every day and sometimes several! He called us whilst we were out eating. He suggested at one point that the problem with the television had been caused by us, we switched it off and when we tried to switch it back on it would not come on. To sum it up there were some good points but they were outweighed by the problems and the intrusion of the owner. It is the worst cottage experience I’ve had. I do think some of my points should be dealt with and some should be published to make people aware. There needs to be a blind on the front door as there is NO privacy in the sitting room.

  • "We have just returned from a lovely week away at Apple Tree Cottage."

The cottage was very clean, cozy and had everything that we needed for the week. Averton Gifford is a lovely little village with a nice pub at the end of the road, which serves nice home cooked food, another bonus is that beaches are only a short drive away as well as other villages. Supermarkets were a 10 minute drive from the cottage also so easy to get shopping for the week. The only thing to note is that there is very limited parking outside of the property, we didn't manage to get a space there at any time during our stay, but there is a car park at the end of the road which is about a 2 minute walk so not an issue for us but could be for some people with limited mobility. Overall, fantastic stay, would definitely return!

  • "The area was quiet and the cottage comfortable."

We enjoyed our stay very much. The only negative part was that I found the water pressure in the shower a little weak, but I just had baths instead. A great stay, thank you!

  • "We had a very comfortable and enjoyable holiday as a family (children aged 2/5) at this beautifully decorated and cosy cottage."

The property petite in size but well equipped without being fussy with modern furnishings and quality bedding. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in a fab location being quiet and peaceful in the small town of Aveton Gifford but only 10-20 minutes drive to the beaches, Salcombe and many local attractions. Highly recommend.
