  • "Excellent views."

Place is very tired which is a shame because it has so much potential. Needs comfortable outside seating & a softer double bed mattress.

  • "The mattresses require replacement in the main and second bedrooms as does the electric hob."

The windows in the upstairs room need a good clean and remember to budget for parking. However overall the house is conveniently sited but in a quiet location and the views from the balcony together with its south facing position are excellent.

  • "To wake up each morning with fresh rodent faeces all over the kitchen and in the cutlery draw was just not acceptable."

No dishwasher and no dishwashing facilities meant we could not use any crockery or cutlery. Perhaps more critical was the fact that we were given a defunct key that meant we were unable to get out of the build many the only feasible means.

  • "What a lovely house!"

Well-situated and easy to find. Someone had forgotten to clean before we arrived, and our dog was delighted to find the snack wrappers and leftover bits buried under the sofa cushions, but we didn't let that spoil the arrival, and it was soon put right. The stay was delightful, and we loved Salcombe - for which this property was the perfect base to explore. Parking charges were something we found we needed to factor into our budget as there is little on-street parking. But, again, we didn't let that spoil things. The staff at Sykes were friendly, welcoming and professional. We would definitely look at a Sykes property for a future stay.

  • "Although the property is well located and has amazing views from the balcony we felt that the property should be cheaper, Given that for example the bathrooms are quite old fashioned for Salcombe properties, the Kitchenette has an old electric job the front right hand ring doesn't heat up, some of the curtains are a bit tired."

We would happily stay on the property again because it does have a nice feel but it is too expensive for what it is.

  • "The property was very comfortable and very clean."

Views from the lovely open sitting room area were second to none. There was plenty of space. Very comfy beds. I would definitely stay there again. The location was very central to all the town facilities and amenities.

  • "Very good. We love the place on the whole."

The view is perfect. Parts are looking a bit shabby and could do with a facelift i.e the rugs are thread-bare. The pillows are old and could do with replacing. But overall it's a fabulous place and we are looking forward to returning.

  • "Upper Marcam House is situated in a perfect elevated position to watch the ins and outs of the harbour, the whole of the estuary and yet a few minutes walk from the centre of Salcombe - perfect."

The house is a little dated in parts but immaculately clean and the balcony is big enough to eat out on. We had a fantastic week and can't wait to get back.

  • "Real shame there is no dishwasher."

The DVD player didn't work so the staff very quickly replaced this for us. Excellent location. This is our fourth year in this property - some of the decor is beginning to look a bit tired but otherwise a great holiday home. We will be back!

  • "The upstairs room gets too hot and there were seagulls making a lot of noise through the night, the downstairs shower room smelt damp."

    Jul 2015

  • "The only thing that is stopping us putting excellent is the lack of a dishwasher in the property - that would be a major improvement!"

    thank you
