  • "Our 3rd stay at this lovely cottage."

Just a few negatives about this stay: The towel rail in upstairs bathroom was broken and just one bracket left sticking out of the wall, which could have caused an injury. We had to find bedding to make up a bed in ground floor bedroom which wasn’t ideal. The shower in ground floor shower room could do with the tile grout thoroughly cleaning. Not a single toilet roll to be found in any of the bathrooms, we always bring our own, but it would have been a nice touch. The driveway is dangerous to pull out of, the hedge needs to be cut back to give a safer exit. Overall a lovely stay, but feel standards had slipped since our previous visits.

  • "Negatives: Very cold cottage on arrival, wood burner contained ash and debris from previous occupants, dust on tables, empty diffuser and burnt down candle left, downstairs very small bedroom with twin beds unmade on arrival, what appeared to be blood spots on duvet, stained mattress protector, extension lead as main plug point, downstairs shower room needs attention, dirty tiles, shower tray takes ages to drain, door dividing dining room to small twin needs handle on inside and lock, only a few sheets of toilet paper on a roll for 3 bathrooms, no tea towels, no hand towels in bathrooms, tap in upstairs bathroom moves when turning on/off, step from lounge to front door trip hazard, doors to garden difficult to open."

Positives: Nice living area, kitchen well equipped, well decorated downstairs cloak room, nice main bedroom, upstairs twin light and airy, good parking, nice garden and view. Short 10-15 minute walk into Dulverton. Owner was responsive and said that she would talk to the cleaners. We felt that the cottage was somewhat lacking in attention to detail and that some modernisation to the bathrooms and small twin could make it more comfortable. Dulverton is lovely and a good base to discover the area. We drove to Lynton and Lynmouth which took approximately 40 minutes. Please note though that the cliff railway doesn't open again until February. We were aware of this and still felt that the drive there was well worth it, even in bad weather. Highly recommend booking Woods, very dog friendly and great food. The Bridge was also very good too. Dulverton has a Co op and other handy shops so everything that you could need.

  • "A lovely, comfortable, home away from home!"

The kitchen had everything we wanted (and more!), the beds we’re comfortable and the whole cottage was beautifully decorated. We loved Shepherd’s Cottage and will definitely look to booking again.

  • "Lovely week at Shepherds Cottage."

Everything there was good (had to clean BBQ but no big deal). Dulverton a short walk away and has everything you need. Just watch out for leaving the property - high hedge - get someone to guide you out - again not a big deal. The dog loved it (although picked up a few ticks in the area. Tick remover needed - can buy in town). Overall - excellent week.

  • "We had a good week at Shepherds Cottage near Dulverton."

The house was warm and comfortable. There were some issues that need attention however. First of all, the drive is very narrow and visibility of traffic from Dulverton is obscured by a hedge. If the hedge cannot be cut back, a pair of angled mirrors on the wall opposite are really essential. My wife and I occupied the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. That facility is separated from the main lounge by a door with clear glass. A curtain on the door would give some necessary privacy. Finally, a single role of toilet paper per bathroom is not adequate for a week!

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We appreciate that visibility is difficult, the hedge is trimmed but we will look into whether the angled mirrors might help. We don't feel that a curtain would work on the glass door leading into the corridor to the bedroom and bathroom but we will look to put some opaque covering on the glass. We provide a toilet roll in each bathroom for your arrival, as it is a self catering property, additional toilet rolls can be purchased from a nearby supermarket. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Shepherds Cottage."

The cottage itself is beautiful and so cosy. Our visit was during the colder season, so we did not make use of the garden but we can imagine what a blissful holiday stay it would be all year round and look forward to booking again in the summer too. We didn’t want to leave! The kitchen is very well equipped, the bedrooms very nicely made up, the dining and snug area a perfect place to lounge around. We visited the Bridge pub for dinner in the evening and the food was lovely. We went with our 2 dogs and there are ample scenic walks to take along the river. A 10/10 stay and cannot wait to come back!

Thank you so much Kim for the great review. I’m so pleased you had a lovely time. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our week - the cottage is extremely comfortable and very well equipped."

Minor concerns were the road noise and the limited area in which to turn a car. More serious is when driving out of the entrance you cannot see what is coming until you are well out into a busy road. Perhaps not an issue for those who have someone to guide them out but my husband is partially sighted.

Thank you for your feedback. We have never found the road or the driveway to be a problem for other guests and 3 cars can fit on the drive so turning should not be an issue. Although like most properties the house is on a road, Dulverton is a very sleepy village. Property Owner

A welcome tray on arrival would be a nice addition, so guests could have a cup of tea when they arrive after a long journey.

  • "Very comfortable cottage with everything we needed for our stay."

Dulverton has good shops and eating places and is a good centre for exploring Exmoor. We should have liked some larger bowls as the plates were too flat for ‘wet’ pasta sauces etc and the bowls provided better for puddings and cereals…. A very minor point and more of a reflection on our eating habits than anything else…

Thank you for your feedback your comments have been taken on board. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful cottage very clean and a lovely log fire for cosy nights."

Layout suited us but if 2 separate families lower bathroom did not offer privacy as open plan. Beds very comfy good selection of DVD’s offered for all ages. Good location 10 min walk to Dulverton. Loved Tarr steps…the Sunday lunches looked huge! Wimbleball lake great for walking. Lyndon Lynmouth very enjoyable even in inclement weather. Would definately revisit this cottage and recommend to family and friends.

  • "Clean cottage lovely and warm great location 10 minutes to shops and pub, only recommendation is a door on the down stairs shower room/toilet that serves a twin bedroom we had 2 teen age boys different families and couldn’t really use the toilet or shower."

The first floor twin beds very poor quality and headboard and legs coming apart. Definitely will stay again.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. All feedback is taken very seriously and we have taken your comments on board. The twin beds will be fixed. Aside from this we are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and its lovely location and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The property was filthy."

. mess marks down the toilet pan, windows wouldn’t close, log fire still left with previous client debris, blinds broken, vacuum cleaner dint work, in fact spat out so much dirt it set the fire alarms off. We had unexpected visitors who knew we were out, but came back to find them on the property. I filed a complaint and have had no acknowledgment. The cottage is lovely, but not maintained, and this is your business!

Thank you for your feedback, the issues have been taken up with the caretaker, the visitor at the property was the gardener. We are sorry you did not contact us during your stay we hopefully could have addressed these issues straight away for you. Property Owner

About the location

DULVERTON

Minehead 17 miles.

Dulverton is the southern gateway to the Exmoor National Park, a small town standing between the rivers Barle and Exe, which meet further down the valley. Dulverton has some quaint narrow streets weaving between fine Victorian buildings and a three arched bridge crossing the river leading to riverside walks. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs in Dulverton and in the square is the Exmoor National Park visitor centre and art gallery, offering plenty of inspiration for exploring the vast expanse of the moor on foot, on horseback or from behind the wheel. Why not try an off road safari around Exmoor to see red deer, wild ponies and rare birds? Exmoor has been designated as a Dark Sky Reserve, where the light pollution is low and plenty of stargazing can be done. Near to Dulverton is the majestic lake at Wimblewall Country Park, the first Dark Skies Discovery Centre on Exmoor. Wimblewall is also a premier trout fishing location, and provides tuition in numerous water sports, including sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Further afield the North Somerset coastline has sandy beaches at Minehead, picturesque harbours and plenty of wild walking around Porlock Weir.
