Some decent knives would hep also front and especially the back yard badly needs cleaning decking very slippery with moss never let our dog out there, rubber plug in bath leaks where it’s perished pillows and quilts not very clean when covers removed bits of rubbish under beds ,went to lift Henry hoover wasn’t picking up well not surprised when we took lid off to empty there was no bag and don’t think it ever gets emptied as it was overflowing with dirt so we put lid back on and left it as we found, overall what could be a lovely holiday let with a bit of FTC was disappointing I suggest they change their cleaner because not good standard we have used Sykes on previous occasions with no problems but Western Cottage was poor standard

  • "On arrival my partner spent 3 hours cleaning the shower which was filthy!"

! The WI-FI didn’t work throughout the stay which meant my daughter who’s 14 used up all her data for the month with I had to buy more data for her. The garden area was disgusting!! There were several cigarettes outside the back door and the decking area was like an ice rink (full of moss and clearly not been cleaned) my father had to vacuum the living room and all 3 bedrooms smelt musty. The sink had not been cleaned as well as the hot plate and other dishes and glasses. The cost of this stay was not cheap and to class this cottage as 4 star is quite frankly a joke and unfair on other people booking this for the future!!

  • "Really nice clean comfortable dog friendly cottage in the heart of the town, good parking right outside the front door, would highly recommend a stay here as it is ideally placed for the surrounding areas of interest."

  • "Some things exceeded expectations while some failed to meet, so overall a score of met expectations."

The booking and welcoming process was friendly and efficient. The house is very nice and in a great location in central Dulverton. It was great having a parking space and we were able to park the other car across the road each evening. It was a really good base for us to complete the Devon Coast to Coast (aka Two Moors Way) walk. We particularly liked the overall feel of the cottage which was warm and welcoming, the Rayburn, the lovely suntrap courtyard seating area, parking, a great fire with a good supply of logs and kindling and well equipped. Disappointing was the cleanliness of some of the crockery, glasses, hotplate and oven/microwave turntable. Also the outside area. There were weeds at the front and back and the lovely courtyard was vey dirty and needed sweeping and cleaning before use. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the cottage. A few small areas of attention would make it even better.

  • "This is a great cottage and was well suited to our party of 2 adults and 3 children."

It was very comfortable and well equipped on the whole. However, just a few observations for the owner: The biscuits and the fresh milk were a lovely touch All the hand-wash containers in both bathrooms and the one in the kitchen were empty and the bulb in the twin bedroom didn't work so I had to swap it for one of the bedside lamps from the main bedroom. The house could really benefit from a dishwasher especially when you have kids as it makes the holiday so much more enjoyable if you don't have to wash up! Most areas were clean but a little more attention to the towel rails and skirting boards would help and put holiday makers more at ease, especially in current Covid times. Stephanie, the owner was very helpful both before and during our stay and the check in process was seamless.

About the location

Minehead 17 miles.

Dulverton is the southern gateway to the Exmoor National Park, a small town standing between the rivers Barle and Exe, which meet further down the valley. Dulverton has some quaint narrow streets weaving between fine Victorian buildings and a three arched bridge crossing the river leading to riverside walks. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs in Dulverton and in the square is the Exmoor National Park visitor centre and art gallery, offering plenty of inspiration for exploring the vast expanse of the moor on foot, on horseback or from behind the wheel. Why not try an off road safari around Exmoor to see red deer, wild ponies and rare birds? Exmoor has been designated as a Dark Sky Reserve, where the light pollution is low and plenty of stargazing can be done. Near to Dulverton is the majestic lake at Wimblewall Country Park, the first Dark Skies Discovery Centre on Exmoor. Wimblewall is also a premier trout fishing location, and provides tuition in numerous water sports, including sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Further afield the North Somerset coastline has sandy beaches at Minehead, picturesque harbours and plenty of wild walking around Porlock Weir. A fabulous holiday destination for all those enjoying outdoor activities, dramatic landscapes and wildlife.
