  • "Loved Harmur with it's bright and airy living area with an amazing view."

Perfect location for nipping down to the beach. Comfortable beds and everything we needed provided. The owner sorted a small issue immediately. We have already booked for next year.

  • "Harmur was a lovely property for our family holiday."

The view from the living/dining area is wonderful, a real highlight. We knew in advance about the parking situation so were able to park below if there weren't any spaces outside the property. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and utensils for the few nights we ate in. It was clean and light. Would recommend this property for a great base in the beautiful Hope Cove. Thank you.

We are delighted to see this feedback, thank you so much. Harmur is special to us and we love it when other people also enjoy it and have a great holiday in this beautiful area. Property Owner

  • "Lovely apartment, would recommend it."

Gorgeous views and very close to the beach. The downstairs bathroom was tricky to manoeuvre in as it’s a very small space but as a second bathroom is necessary with two teenagers taking ownership of the bathroom upstairs! Tried to book again for next year but unavailable unfortunately.

  • "Whilst Harmur was a pleasant property, we were not happy with the process of dealing with a problem."

When the electricity repeatedly cut out one day, we had to walk the 10-15 minutes down to the village to telephone, as we could not locate the fusebox. The wifi was obviously out and, in addition, we had no mobile signal at Harmur. My husband walked down because the return was very steep and my back was sore, but the company would not discuss the issue with him, as I had made the booking - although they had his name as a second occupant. Instead we were sent emails and phone messages, when he had informed them we had no wifi or signal. We eventually found the fuse box, but the problem continued for a while, and we had no shower or breakfast that day. The next day it happened again several times - by which point we had had enough and decided to leave a day early. On returning home, I contacted customer services. The result was that they passed the complaint onto the local office, who passed it onto the owner. After a missed call on my mobile (I had asked customer servs to use my home number, which they had) the owner emailed me and apologised that we had had trouble with the kettle causing the electricity to cut out. We had never mentioned the kettle, and I wonder how she decided it was that causing the problem. Perhaps it had previously been an issue. I had actually expressed concern that the continuous cut-out might signify something more dangerous for the next guest. I had also asked for a courteous gesture of a small refund for our inconvenience, but these points were ignored, and I felt 'fobbed off'. The experience was stressful. For example, if I emailed, I received automated replies from no-reply addresses, directing me to my account online, resulting in 'page not found'. When I rang, I got through to someone in the central office, who simply passed the message onto the local office or the owner. I have now given up on hoping to get a response to my request. If everything runs smoothly, then this is a reasonable property. If not, it's very stressful.

  • "We loved our stay and will definitely return, the apartment was very thoughtfully equipped, lovely and quiet and in a great location."

Only small issues was difficulty of closing the sliding door to access the balcony, very stiff. Also parking provision excellent but instructions said allocated bay for property - should really say 4 spaces for 5 apartments with the extra space located below communal garden to avoid confusion as when we arrived in the evening all spaces were taken and wasn't clear where else to park.

Dear Sir Delighted you had a great visit to Harmur. You’re correct in the parking ambiguity but we are lucky to have spaces. The information will be clearer in the future! We’ve not had the property that long so we are continually trying to improve and make it the best holiday home it can be! Kind regards Amanda and Keith Owners Property Owner

  • "Loved the area – unspoilt by tourism, with good amenities, and convenient for touring picturesque South Hams."

The accommodation is clean and comfortable. The kitchen / living room is spacious, with good views. While the other rooms are perfect for two or three people, a larger party may prefer more space. The fast wifi and ‘welcoming items’ were much appreciated – the owners and Sykes do an excellent job to ensure a smooth, hassle-free stay. Note to future guests: the key safe and sliding balcony door are stiff to operate but do yield to persistence. A great holiday – already contemplating a return visit!

So pleased you enjoyed staying in Harmur. We occasionally get 5 people staying as it has sleeping for 5 , as a family of 5 we have managed it. We’ve recently changed the welcome pack to doing it ourselves so delighted it was appreciated. WiFi is a must with little phone signal! We hope you do return, Kind regards Mandy and Keith Owners Property Owner

  • "The main living space of Harmur is lovely and light and actually nicer than it looks in the pictures."

Lovely to have the balcony with its sea view over the palm trees too. We had a lovely few days there for my Mum's 90th birthday (although the steps down and up into the flat were a little challenge - I should have read more carefully!). The beds were comfy too. It would have been so helpful to have had more detail in advance of what was there - everything from hairdryer to washing-up liquid, as I took EVERYTHING but needn't have as it was well-equipped. I especially enjoyed access to Narnia through the upper floor wardrobe! Thank you, Harmur. We'll be back!

So pleased you had a lovely time. Apologies you took everything! Glad you made it to Narnia! Thank you for the lovely comments. Property Owner

  • "It was better than we thought after reading some reviews , nice view and comfortable , we weren’t in there much as we were out enjoying the beaches, walks, local pubs and walking to south Milton for the Rock box and beachside hut ."

The flat was in a great location for all of that .Our only gripe was it could have been a little cleaner , the basics were clean , but behind the toilet needed a good clean , skirting’s and dirty doors and shower at the bottom where the doors slide needed a good scrub ,just not quite upto standard especially when it’s not a cheap stay .All of this can be easily rectified , so would stay again .

I am very sorry that Harmur was not up to standard on cleaning, I will be in touch with CCC. But I am pleased that it was ‘better than you thought!’ It’s a special place for us and we hope other people will enjoy staying there. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

Didn’t feel it was very dog friendly as no garden just a small balcony shower rooms both quite small no where to put toiletries toothbrush etc there were a few cobwebs on light fittings but other than that we enjoyed our stay

  • "Our second stay at Harmur and definitely not our last!"

Really lovely little apartment with a parking space just outside. The apartment has a small balcony to enjoy the amazing views over Hope Cove. The coastal path is literally a couple of minutes walk away and was perfect for walking our dog, we hardly used our car all week. The apartment was very clean on arrival and had everything we needed for our stay. I think that the negative comments about Harmur are a little unkind and to comment that the bed linen is cheap is ridiculous! The fact that it was clean and fresh was more important to us to be honest

Thank you so much! We have recently bought Harmur and are trying hard to make it perfect! Well, almost!! So pleased you enjoyed staying there. Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately we had to send an email highlighting issues that arose at the very beginning of our stay."

Sykes were attentive and tried did address some of the issues promptly and in the end refunded us £ 50 as a good will gesture. shame on Sykes for taking on this property on and advertising it and taking payment for it. It was shabby and not ready to let, it needed a good update to function. Plus if you read the visitors book, historically it said the same from other visitors. shame on the owners for not refunding us for the lost days. We wouldn’t recommend Harmour to anyone.

Many thanks for your feedback, although we were concerned to read that the property was not satisfactorily presented prior to your arrival. As you will appreciate, we work very hard with our owners and housekeepers to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained, so it is very disappointing to read these comments. Your feedback has been passed on to the housekeeper/cleaner concerned. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are also grateful for the comment in respect of the overall appearance of the property, we have passed this onto the new owner who has been proactive and ordered a new sofa and curtains and is committed to updating the property in the areas that are needed. We do hope that you had an enjoyable holiday in spite of the issues raised and look forward to welcoming you back to the area in the not too distant future. Property Owner

Bantham, popular with surfers, is just a short drive away, whilst picturesque Salcombe, with its shops, art galleries, restaurants and pretty waterfront, can be reached by car in 10-15 minutes. The two storey accommodation includes a well-presented kitchen/sitting/dining room with lovely sea and country views.

Outside there is a good sized balcony with lovely views across neighbouring farmland and also out to sea.

To the front of the building is an area of garden shared with the other properties.

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
