  • "We have stayed as a family at Osborn House previously and continue to love its location in Hope Cove and super close proximity to the beach!"

The house was clean, tidy and with all the required facilities that we needed. There was plenty of space for the 7 of us staying and with a kitchen that we could happily all sit down together. Having the village shop + 2 local pubs just a short stroll from the house was great! Overall another great stay at Osborn House and will definitely be back at some point!

  • "We had a great time at Osborn House, wished we had discovered it before."

We booked again for 2024. Ideal for 3 year old grandchild with the beaches so close and the roadway outside only used by the occupants of the row of cottages. Great walknig for adults and children on the coast path with wonderful views. Fenced garden good for children and dogs. Village shop, pub and bar close by yet still a quiet location. Surprised that there were no stair gates, but we took 2, one to contain dog in utility room at night and one to contain 3 year old in bedroom. The only negative points were that it was not possible to lock, or in some cases unlock some 1st floor windows. Sykes website states parking for one car and we had 2, so knowing the bad reputation of the carpark with people being fined despite having bought tickets, I bought a weekly season on RingGo before leaving home. Inside the cottage there is a notice, saying parking for 2 cars, as indeed there was.

Everything perfect for a family holiday with dog - and it's position is perfect and we love the enclosed garden - right between the two beaches in Hope Cove, with the village shop and pub right round the corner. Thank you so much for a perfect stay all round.

Warm, welcoming and comfortable. Great that dogs were allowed. We had a great stay and would come back. Complementary tea, coffee and milk would have been a lovely touch. Friday to Friday was not ideal due to travelling far. Would have preferred Saturday to Saturday. These are just small points. There were a few things that I have handed over to caretaker.

The house was spacious and full of character. We did have however have a problem with the hot water, as we didn't have any information about what to do when the hot water ran out. The garden area was a delight ,with comfortable seating. We noticed the exterior wall on stairwell had some damp, and there was evidence of previous water staining in kitchen ceiling.

The property location is just ideal with a 50 yard walk to the beach, great views of the sea from several bedrooms and the garden. The property was well equipped with everything we needed (just 1 request for more hand towels). Great to have a BBQ and enjoy the evening sun listening to the sea. Would love to go back again

  • "WOW what a glorious house = the kitchen is enormous and there are two sitting rooms."

It is brilliantly supplied with everything you need and of course you are right on the doorstep of great restaurants and wonderful walks. Garden furniture is a little old and the garden has no privacy at all. Can't wait to get back though - if we ever manage to get another booking as it is always full!

Tried to book for next year, same dates as always and all full, my fault for not doing it 18 months in advance!!!! BUT surely customers who go year after year could be offered the same dates for the following year?

There is no shortage of anything. The only downside in booking with sykes is that you have to be prepared to wait on the phone for over an hour till you get to speak to someone and also can't believe the price hike for the same week next year but we still booked again .. there should be some ĺoyalty for repeat customers under these circumstances.

  • "The cottage was clean and comfortable with views of the sea from several of the bedroom windows."

The car parking space is only suitable for a small car and would be tricky to park outside the property if you had a large vehicle. There was an underlying smell of drains and sewerage outside the property, so if you left the windows open upstairs it would drift into the rooms. Overall, the cottage is in a great location with good local amenities.

The layout is fab, it is homely, felt warm & more than well equipped. Every room was clean, bathrooms worked well, nice touch with soaps available. Beds very comfortable & clean & considering how windy it was the house feels well insulated with those lovely thick walls. The kitchen is fab- very well stocked & underfloor heating was amazing. We have absolutely enjoyed a lovely family of 6 get together in a ‘proper’ comfortable house, enjoyed the fresh sea air, the stunning scenery of Hope & the hospitality of the locals . Thank you

  • "Myself, 3 friends and one dog spent a week at Osbourne House on November 1st for an Autumn break."

Firstly I should say that we had a lovely holiday and if you want peace and quiet then this was a really great time to go. We could not fault the position of the cottage in Hope Cove as everything you need; beaches, walks, shops and pubs are in really close proximity to the cottage. We had a few issues with the cottage on the first day as there was a magnificent storm which caused power cuts and threw the underfloor heating system out but we contacted Sykes and they sent the caretaker around to sort the problem and we did not suffer as there are numerous oil radiators through the cottage so we were kept warm. The caretaker was fab and went out of her way to make sure we were looked after including bringing us extra DVDs and coming back next day to ensure the heating was working. The cottage itself is a little worn in places but is warm, spacious and very well equipped even down to condiments and cleaning sprays etc. The listing says parking for one car and it has a very smal raised parking space in front of the house on which I managed to get a small SUV but there is a space directly behind that allows access to the space that we used to squeeze in our second car which was a bonus. Please note that it is tight though but there is a car park close by for which you can pay daily or buy a weeks pass So in summary, excellent position, well equipped, spacious, no mobile signal! so we used wifi for emails etc a little worn around the edges but still clean and comfortable, small smart tv with no access to Netflix etc as weak wifi signal, We loved it and will definitely return.

We love it,the house is in such a fantastic position,is very well furnished and comfortable. We have noticed, and in fact reported, that the garden furniture is really not up to the standard it should be,with some broken chairs.,not enough seating for the eight people that the house is for. The outside steps to the kitchen are quite dangerous....they badly need a hand rail.We have had some nasty falls on them. We love Osborn House, and it is like coming home, when we arrive.

Phenomenal location - big enough for our family of six. Very well-equipped kitchen which was great as we cooked for 14 people on Easter Sunday. The photos on your website don't do it justice - both the location, and the inside of the house (the smaller sitting room isn't even featured, for instance). Would definitely return again.

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
