“We visited the property for a week in October and were pleasantly surprised.”

After reading some of the previous reviews, we were slightly sceptical. However, we can certainly recommend this property. It’s not unclean like previously commented, in fact we felt it was quite the opposite. There were a few cobwebs around but it’s a cottage need we say more. Yes the TV doesn’t work in the master bedroom but this is a minor fault nothing which should detract away from you deciding to visit. Yes the TV doesn’t work in the master bedroom but this is a minor fault nothing which should detract away from you deciding to visit. The property has everything you need and we couldn’t find any faults. The parking space is directly outside but could be tight if you have a larger car. The location is set up a hill in a quite area. The village of Beer is very quaint and offers great picturesque walks to Branscombe and Seaton. The take away fish and chip shop is a must. Overall this is a property we would return to if visiting the area again and is worthy of 4 ticks.

“Lovely accommodation large house with lots of nice features.”

Well equipped and lovely garden area to sit in. Some nice touches from the owner. The village of Beer is beautiful and good location to visit other interesting places. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

“Firstly trying to get into the key safe was extremely difficult, so much so the next door neighbour came to give a hand and said everybody had difficulty with it.”

If the cottage had been Deep cleaned, I would not like to see it with a usual clean. It was definitely not a 4 tick cottage as published in your information. It was advertised as sleeping 6 people but there was only 1 double, 1 twin and 1 single bedroom equalling 5 altogether. There weren't any locks on either bathroom. The plug in the shower room sink did not work. To get washed or shaved in the bathroom you had to bend down sideways or suffer hitting your head on the cabinet, which had a mirror door missing. Nearly every light fitting had bulbs missing. We have been in 35 holiday cottages over the last 20 years and I would place this one in the bottom 5. We are not picky but like to have value for money, we did not get this. I know the circumstances are difficult, but you would think a bit more effort in cleaning would be appropriate.

“Excellent location, walking distance to the beach.”

Great value for money and beautifully decorated. A bottle of wine and some beautiful sunflowers were left. We did have to clean the outside area as it was covered in cobwebs and old figs which were attracting a lot of wasps.

“The house was just right for us and being dog friendly was a bonus, a bedside rug in the small bedroom would have been cosy on cold mornings, and if I am really honest, the upstairs bathroom fittings have seen better days.”

The gifts of chocolates, wine, crackers and the beautiful flowers made the final special touch. I would happily rent the property again, probably in the summer next time.

“The house is in a perfect location, within easy walking distance of the village centre giving easy access to restaurants and pubs.”

The house is well fitted out with all you need. There is parking, which is a real bonus for the village location in Devon. The owner was extremely kind and gave great advice on restaurants. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider a revisit!

“The Margarets is a comfortable house well located for exploring Beer and the wonderful coast and countryside.”

The rooms are bigger than we'd expected and are furnished and decorated in a bright,modern way with a seaside theme. In places the decor is a little tired and could do with a fresh coat of paint. Although the kitchen is well equipped we found the lack of worktop a bit frustrating for preparing meals. But we acknowledge that we are probably unusual in liking to cook when away on holiday! The bed is very comfortable, the showers are good and there was always plenty of hot water. We enjoyed sitting in the Summer house at the top of the garden in the late afternoon/early evening; again the outdoor space would benefit from a little TLC. All in all we enjoyed our stay in The Margarets .

) Lots more room than I was expecting, a lovely outside area and in a really convenient location. An exceptionally nice touch were the lovely fresh flowers and bottle of wine left for us. Cannot wait to visit again!

“A beautiful seaside cottage”

“Thoroughly gorgeous cottage by the sea”

From the moment we arrived we were very impressed with the standard of 'The Margarets'. The décor and thoughtfulness of the property is fantastic. The kitchen is brilliantly well equipped with everything we could think of! The beds are comfy and the shower is great too. It has the most attention to detail of any rental we have ever stayed in. Beer is just lovely. We came for Regatta week and there was lots to do! We would recommend the walks to Seaton and Branscombe (perhaps get the bus home though!), Lyme Regis (NOT Charmouth - awful beach!) Sidmouth. We mainly spent days on the beach, or pebble painting on a rainy day. Our dog enjoyed the cottage too! You won't regret booking 'The Margarets'!

About the location

BEER

Seaton 1.5 miles; Lyme Regis 9 miles; Sidmouth 9.5 miles; Exeter 25 miles.

Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast near Seaton. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction. Beer is situated on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the village offers sloping streets lined with picturesque stone houses and cottages built on many different levels of the steep valley sides. There are a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs in Beer, plus just outside the village is the popular Pecorama Gardens, which are perched on the hill overlooking Lyme Bay. Pecorama boasts the Beer Heights Light Railway and indoor model railway exhibition, along with a childrens' play area. Beer is a unique Devon fishing village and a great place to stay.
