The cottage is situated in the very pretty village of Belstone, if you are hoping to see Dartmoor ponies and sheep, you will not be disappointed. The cottage is situated in the very pretty village of Belstone, if you are hoping to see Dartmoor ponies and sheep, you will not be disappointed. Sadly, there is no pretty view from the cottage as it is situated in a narrow lane in front of the church overlooking walls to house opposite ( there are 2 tiny windows overlooking the church....one at the bottom of the stairs and one in bathroom but both are frosted). The kitchen is small but very well equipped .....the washing machine is in the bathroom) The bathroom (wet room) is spacious but the shower floor is black with mould/mildew....something that could easily be fixed by the cleaner between lets with some bleach or proprietary spray. There is plenty of space for a bath too which would be welcome for a soak after a long days hike.....that said, aside from the mould, the shower was good and the heated towel rail kept towels warm and cosy. The bedroom is bright although there isn’t a great deal of wardrobe space as 2 of the sections are taken up with a section marked private and one that contained a vacuum cleaner and a very full bin bag......one of the drawers in the 3 door chest was also marked private. Although my husband and I took a drawer each we had to cram our hung garments together in the only available hanging space. There are also 2 dining chairs in the bedroom which took up room unnecessarily and under the bed is stuffed with paraphernalia in plastic that was unsightly. Downstairs again and the dining area is smart, however the sitting room is looking tired with 2 small decorative armchairs and a small sofa ......neither are positioned to view the very small tv screen so a bit of rearranging is necessary. The cushions have seen better days. The radiators are electric and very efficient. Outside the front is a tiny patio with very rusted furniture next to 2 dustbins......a bin store is needed. The property is advertised as having roadside parking at front of property....it should add ‘if you are lucky’ as the space isn’t designated and it can be a free for all. Although just a couple of minutes away, we had to park alongside the green by the pub on one occasion. Other times we were able to squeeze in our small vehicle at the end by the pub. Larger vehicles would be problematic. So it doesn’t warrant a 5.......other than parking or the view which can’t be fixed, the property would benefit from thorough cleaning, sorting out of storage and replacing/upgrading of some fittings. Belstone is however idyllic and if you aren’t planning evenings in front of the tv.....
