  • "I only wanted to say that although a lovely property in a beautiful but remote spot, we found the lounge sofas were quite worn and very uncomfortable and garden furniture being used inside for additional seating which was also not suitable for its use, in addition the beds were also very uncomfortable and we woke most days with back aches."

I just feel that for the price paid for the week I would at least expect some level of comfort.

  • "Excellent property for anyone wanting to walk the south West Coast Path and enjoy fabulous views from Ella Mews."

  • "My daughter and I had a wonderful stay at 2 Ella Mews."

The accommodation was beautifully presented & the views are stunning. We didn’t stray too far from the property but we did enjoy crabbing in Kingsbridge & Dartmouth, and Mattiscombe beach is well worth the walk down from the lighthouse. Thank you so much for a lovely stay, our first break in 2 years and it was absolutely worth the long drive from Yorkshire.

  • "Ella Mews is a stunning house with an amazing view - it was our second stay here and we wouldn’t hesitate to go back again."

We love the quiet, get-away-from-it-all location. It has excellent access to the coastal path and we love walking over to Beesands to the Cricket Inn or Brittania on the Beach for dinner. The house has a pretty, secluded patio garden at the back, which is really sheltered when the wind is coming off the sea. We’d highly recommend Ella Mews!

The property

This ‘upside down’ mews house is one of two attached to Prospect House, an award-winning development of 16 holiday homes converted from an historic hotel on the cliffs above Hallsands.

With amazing sea views and masses of space and sunshine, this is wonderful and memorable accommodation for older families and couples.

From the hall, head upstairs to the open plan living space, all comfortable and beautifully equipped and with three doors to throw open to full-height balustrades on a fine day.

You will find the three comfortable bedrooms downstairs, two with doors leading to a balcony.

Outside, the open communal space to front and rear is charming, with a shared seasonal outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court.

The enclosed terrace which faces the sea has an enclosed sitting-out area with table and chairs for each of these two mews cottages.

At the back, you can relax in the gated garden above the pool.

Wander down to the viewing platform which poignantly illustrates how the original village of Hallsands was reduced to rubble by the waves on a stormy night in 1917.

From here, you can head in either direction along the spectacular South West Coast Path to the shingle beach or to the little seaside village of Beesands with its amazing fresh fish and chips café and the excellent pub where Mick Jagger incongruously gave his first public performance as a teenager.

For fans of retail treats, the little streets of Salcombe and Kingsbridge offer boutique shops where you can browse for hours.

2 Ella Mews is a unique and stunning destination on a dramatic and beautiful stretch of the South Hams coast.

About the location

Start Point 1.5 miles; Beesands 3 miles; East Portlemouth 5.5 miles; Kingsbridge 8 miles.

Hallsands is a small village near Start Point, one of the most southerly points on Devon’s coastline, near Salcombe in the beautiful South Hams area. The sheltered South Hams Peninsula is in 'deepest Devon', a pastoral landscape of flowering hedgerows and ancient sunken lanes, carved into by the richly wooded Avon and Dart Valleys. This quiet fishing village, with its dog-friendly, unspoilt beach, is situated next to the historic ‘old village’ of South Hallsands, just three miles from the popular Beesands Beach which has its own gastro pub and shop. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is decorated with white, pink and ochre thatched cottages, picturesque fishing ports such as Dartmouth, and is renowned for its stunning coastline, popular with yachting enthusiasts. Much of the clifftop land has been acquired by the National Trust, a haven for bird watchers and walkers who take advantage of the South West Coast Path, peppered with perfect picnic spots. Nearby, uncover the beauty of Blackpool Sands and Torcross, a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced; explore the nature reserve at Slapton Ley, and stroll along Slapton Beach, feeling the soft sand between your toes. Park at East Portlemouth and catch the ferry across to the beautiful seaside town of Salcombe with its renowned estuary, or visit the Start Point Lighthouse, less than a mile away. Hallsands is a wonderful base for uncovering the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the South Hams, all year round.
