  • "Absolutely loved our stay here, it had everything we needed and more!"

Easily housed our whole party (17 adults + 4 infants) for the weekend, everyone was very impressed when the house and pool (we didn’t use the games room)! We met Brian (the owner) a few times and he was always very smiley and approachable! The only thing I would say is that some areas are looking quite ‘tired’ - loose coat hooks, scuffed paintwork, hanging wires etc but this wouldn’t stop us from returning again

Plenty of room for the adults to relax on sofas or sit round kitchen table which we did most days. Games room and swimming pool was a big plus as the weather was shocking, it didn't stop us getting out and about p,entry to see and do. Plenty of room in bedrooms and ensuite great for so many of us, plus they were well spaced apart. Lovely experience everyone had a superb time. Will be back .

  • "Fabulous property."

We stayed here 8 years ago and have since welcomed 4 more grandchildren into our family - so we were up to the maximum of 18 people. We enjoyed a Fri-Mon stay to celebrate our joint 70th birthdays with our lovely family. 8 double bedrooms with en-suites decorated to a high spec, the fabulous lounge and kitchen-diner with every home comfort you could wish for, ensured we had a marvellous stay. The swimming pool was a hit with the children and they would have stayed in there all day! The games room was also an added bonus and the pool table and table tennis table were used often. We all 100% agreed the accommodation was fabulous and contributed to making the weekend so memorable. (A small request though…. The lane leading to the back car park had some very big potholes.. our cars would be so happy to see some more gravel in them the next time!!) I would very happily recommend this property and hope to return with our family in the future.

  • "The overall house was clean and well equipped."

We were disappointed when we arrived as we were surprised to find multiple properties on the site that had access to the pool and games room. The website indicates that only the pool is shared with the owner and their friends. Other people staying at the other properties felt exactly the same. The pictures on the website are also many years old and don't show the wear and tear around the property and garden. The pool was disgusting. It had a layer of scum/saliva across the top. There was no net available to clear some of it away. A couple of people in our party who went in the pool have been poorly since. The driveway to the Roundhouse needs levelling up. There are huge ruts where we scraped the bottom of our cars as it is so uneven. The most upsetting thing was our encounter with the maintenance man onsite. He swore and shouted at my daughter in law and 5 year old granddaughter because he assumed they left the door open to the flooded games room (they did not). When my son approached the owner and maintenance man they were met with more anger and rudeness from the maintenance man, the owner apologised. For the price paid for the weekend we were left disappointed with our stay and would never want to return.

However it could do with a little care and attention in places. Everyone commented to us about quality of beds (mattresses) and that they needed attention. We spoke to the owner and reported the broken drawer in fridge on our arrival. There was an infestation of wasps in the utility area towards the end of our stay, and on investigation there appeared to be a wasps nest in the eaves. The black cat was a constant visitor and not loved by all guests, who had to close their windows in the end to keep him out. The children enjoyed the pool and games room. We didn’t have opportunity to use outside area much as we were out and about and the weather was very mixed.

  • "We had a great week in the Roundhouse."

The house was larger than expected, spacious, with good sized rooms. There were plenty of plates and cutlery for cooking and the oven was impressive to cover the large group. We were lucky enough to eat outside evenings on the patio. The garden was a bit steep in places, which was ok for our group but not suitsble for some people. The games room was used daily and so was the pool. Only small complaint was the wooden floorboards were old and creaky. Expected to sleep less with a mixed age group between 2 and 86 years; young adults up late, children and great grandmother awake early but you could really hear every sound. Not a complaint but a warning - A black cat appeared to live there. One of the family has allergies, but no amount of removal stopped him coming into the house. It drove the dog mad at times.

  • "The house, grounds, amenities and location are quite fantastic, and I'm hard to please."

We had great weather, but in bad weather the Pool would be a godsend, which is better than many public pools. The facilities, such as washer, dryer, cooker, main TV, as well as living and dining furniture, are all excellent and high-end. Also worth mentioning there are baby gates on all stairs, which was a great benefit for us. We would absolutely stay there again, however it's fair to mention the negatives: The mattresses are typical holiday quality and probably old (to be fair I am fussy) but they are below par compared with the overall quality. Whilst the place was clean enough some of the quiet corners could do with a dust. And then there is the cat. If you don't like a cat living with you and sleeping on your bed, then look elsewhere. It's cute enough, but unless you like it hot and stuffy it will find an open window.

We were a party of 17 from 5 families with children aged 2-7 years and had plenty of room. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and crockery with a large dinner table for everyone. Rooms were spacious with comfort beds and all were en-suite so no shortage of bathrooms. The swimming pool and games room on-site was an added bonus on rainy days. The owners, Brian and Amanda have thought of everything and was on hand to help if needed. Their son Josh invited us to see the sheep get fed which the kids enjoyed. • "The roundhouse is a beautiful property with plenty of kitchen utensils and cooking facilities for a large group."

The swimming pool is a great addition for winter stays and the children enjoyed the play area in the garden. The description of the property could highlight the fact that the garden is not enclosed and is shared with other holiday makers just in case people have dogs who need to be in an enclosed space. We understand this is an old building but if you are planning to stay with a large group who go to bed at different times the sound proofing is nonexistent! The pool area could do with a deep clean particularly the changing areas. Some attention to the tv and dvd in the den is required as neither of these worked. More cupboard space for food would be beneficial, rearranging some of the things in the cupboards would make this possible, do not do a large shop with frozen food as there is only one small freezer. We had a lovely time together and I hope this feedback is constructive as we had a great time.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the property and the onsite facilities. If a garden is enclosed then this will be mentioned on the website. We would ask that if it is important for you to have an enclosed garden, that this is checked at the time of making your booking. The pool and changing areas are cleaned weekly and also pressure washed at regular intervals. We weren't aware that the TV and DVD in the den weren't working, had you made us aware of this during your stay, we would have done our best to have sorted this for you at the time. Both the TV and DVD will be checked during the next changeover. There is an American fridge freezer in the property, so not a small freezer and there is also a second under counter fridge for chilled items. We are glad that you all had a lovely time and hope to welcome you back sometime in the not too distant future. Property Owner

  • "The Roundhouse is in a great location."

The house is spacious and comfortable and served us well for our family holiday. We were warm and comfortable and the kitchen in particular was very well equipped when catering for 8 adults and 5 children. The use of the pool was enjoyed on several occasions. We had a wonderful holiday. In spite of this however, and when considering how much we paid to stay here, there were a few details which we feel let the property down. When we arrived we noted that there were several wine delivery boxes under the outside steps which previous people had left behind. This rubbish really should have been removed before our arrival and not just discarded under the steps. We ended up taking the boxes away with our own rubbish at the end of our stay. We could not use the TV in the snug area as previously someone had clearly drawn in crayon all across the screen. This was a shame as the children enjoyed this space. It would seem a sound system had been removed from the property even though the remote controls and I think one of the speakers for a system were still in the property. Luckily we had brought with us a small portable speaker which enabled us to play our music and listen to the radio. The shower towels really were very tiny and access to just two tea towels is not really enough for a week! It was also mentioned by members of the family that the showers could do with the option of some anti-slip mats as they were worried they might fall whilst taking a shower. The shower trays and baths were slippery. It might be the choice of shower/bath cleaner that is causing a potential slip hazard. There was no Information or Welcome book/folder in evidence to advise about the house This would be useful to know about rubbish removal and arrangements on last day etc or furthermore ideas or recommendations in the local area. The two drawers in the fridge were broken and so troublesome to use. There were also trays missing from the fridge door presumably also broken and taken away. Importantly it was our experience that the outside area was dangerously slippery when wet. All the tiled areas, the paths and the patio became treacherous under foot. This needs some attention. One of our children fell to the ground as his foot went from under him and two adults in our party had a near miss! The property had been designed to a high standard. It is a well thought through holiday home and you can see that there has been much consideration to the content of the home for an enjoyable stay. It did however feel that the maintenance and upkeep of the property was lacking.

There was thirteen in our party and plenty of space for us all. Kitchen was well equipped with ample crockery, utensils, pots and pans and a very useful utility room. My only request, and this is being picky, would have been for a bigger fridge with less freezer space, although there was a second fridge in the utility room we could have done with a bit more fridge room given the size of the party but not a real problem and I appreciate every group is different and you can’t cater for everyone all of the time. Perhaps also another bin to make recycling easier. Bedrooms had plenty of storage and beds were really comfortable, en-suite always had immediate hot water. Catered well for children, they had a large play area and they loved the beautiful indoor swimming pool which was accessible all day. Location within easy reach of many tourist locations. It worked as accommodation for 18 although a bit tired. The seating in the main area was very uncomfortable but we understand that practical furniture is needed. The kids loved the swimming pool and the various dens in the property. The biggest let down was that on arrival you were greeted by a pile of rubbish alongside the property. There is ample space to put the recycling/rubbish away. Also there were no instructions in the property and/or floor plans but I suspect that this might be because of covid. So overall good and we would come back, but there are a few things that need attention, thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. The local authority have been having trouble with the rubbish collection, it must have been missed that day. It is a beautiful property, though we did experience some maintenance issues i.e broken bed base, and broken dishwasher, which wasn’t ideal when there are 13 people staying there! Unfortunately, these issues weren’t fixed during our stay, but we understand that these things happen, and can’t always be readily rectified. I can’t understand why the broken bed base wasn’t noticed before though. I think for the size of the property, then 2 dishwashers would be ideal. There were also other minor maintenance issues, i.e loose handles etc, so I think when time allows, the property does need to have a maintenance overhaul. The place was generally very clean, though I think the floors indoors and patio outside could do with a deep clean. The patio in particular was quite mucky. The area is lovely, and it’s the perfect house for a large gathering.

We are however sorry to hear of the issues you encountered during your stay. I cannot see that you contacted us to report the broken bed base and dishwasher? Everyone had a fantastic holiday. It wasn't the cleanest property we have stayed in (and I have to say after reading other reviews we were a little concerned before arriving). However, the bits that mattered to us (beds, bathrooms and kitchen) were clean and a bit of dust on the wooden beams or under a chest of drawers didn't matter. The kids loved the pool and games room, and spent a lot of time on the piano and on the swinging chairs (not sure the adults enjoyed the piano quite as much!!!). The door to the pool area was open all the time as it was warped and split that was mentioned in visitors book and a review back in dec 2018 and it was no different now to then . The house was lovely once but now sadly neglected and upkeep was minimal. Childrens stair gates were non functioning and with 3 under 3 years old it was a worry the gardens were beautiful once but again no care taken for years as the footpaths, entry at the front were totally overgrown, the back entrance up steps had a rose overgrown to such a level we had to cut it back with a knife as we were attacked by it everytime we used that door We asked for a ragged rug to be taken away as we tripped over it when we arrived and underneath it had not been cleaned for months with the amount of dust underneath it . The bbq was completely full of ash and the grill was still covered in dried on food which we tried to clean but we would not use it . There were no loungers to have sat out in the garden in the sun and the washing line was a make piece of line slung from the balcony rails We did have a tumble dryer but that is not sufficient for 18 people It was beautifully equipped at one time but it is now unkempt and tired which sadly needs a much bigger cleaning team in between lets than is currently being used We had to look beneath the dust, cobwebs and filthy plates etc and a disgusting dishwasher to the reason we chose the round house. It gave us all bedrooms and ensuites and plenty of room for the children to play .that we needed and we had a great family holiday when we had cleaned it up a bit

Not an easy task finding somewhere that big and keeping it a surprise. Having searched the internet I found the Roundhouse and kept coming back to it. Not far from where we live, all bedrooms en-suite, added bonus of a swimming pool and a games room. It turned out to be everything that I had hoped for and went ahead and booked it. Our two daughters and I managed to get my husband to the property and he had no idea that we had arranged a surprise weekend away with the family. We then had another 6 friends arrived on the Sunday when the family had gone to stay for a couple of days, again he didn't realise. When they left it was a couple of days to ourselves. We had an amazing week and Bryan was so helpful in all aspects of our stay. Would definitely recommend and would go back again. Brilliant for us.

  • "Stayed here for a 60th birthday celebration with family."

There was 18 of us staying in this beautiful barn, it was well equipped with everything you need, the beds were comfortable the underfloor heating warmed the barn lovely even though it was snowing and cold when we arrived, the patio runs the whole length of the barn with steps up to the garden. Brian was very helpful with nothing too much trouble. We would love to come again for the next family celebration!! Thanks Brian and Amanda X

  • "Great place worked well as not the place we booked originally."

There were 13 adults staying and generally worked well. Place is a little tired and could do with some overhauls especially where lights not working and doors not locking well are concerned. Cobwebs were everywhere but up high and being a barn conversion not unexpected. Pool was great for us although the pool door did not lock which could be a concern with people with children. Cooking facilities were good although not lacking in baking trays not many fitted in the oven. House was lovely and warm often too warm but all rooms had thermostats so could be adjusted. The only problems we had was no quiet place to watch tv if everyone was talking in the kitchen/dining area and there are a lot of steps which were not all that easy if some of your party are older. We had a great week though and would recommend.

The Roundhouse is a big yet sociable house perfect for big groups. All bedrooms have en-suites. Plenty of kitchen equipment and crockery too. Great facilities in shared swimming pool and games room. Fabulous location for visiting Dartmouth, Salcombe, Bigbury on Sea, Hope Cove, Totnes and Dartington

  • "The house and grounds are really special but are spoiled by poor maintenance and hit and miss cleaning."

I think the premises should be inspected prior to arrival of new occupants to avoid disappointment, clearly the Roundhouse was not. Some examples - 12 lamps with spent bulbs, TV controls no batteries, no tea towels or dish cloths, no oven glove, no instructions for cooker, washing machine etc., to hand, dirty saucepan, serving dishes had water in them, oven filthy, we purchased new oven tins for our own use. Some windows appear to have not been cleaned for many months, ornamental planters full of dead weeds, small trees and bushes obstructing some paths. In various places we found two pairs of men's under pants, a dummy and child's socks. All this may sound petty to some people I am sure but having spent £3.000.0 for a week I think we deserved better. ***Owner Response*** Thank you very much for taking the time to comment. We’re pleased to hear how much you liked the house and facilities but sorry to learn your stay was spoilt by the issues you highlighted. We’ve spoken with the owners who have agreed to their regret that things weren’t perfect and they had hoped the positive actions they took during your stay had helped to resolve the majority of these for you. The owners have reassured us that following a busy summer season they will be working hard to ensure the property is presented as expected and that future guests won’t experience problems. We do hope that overall you enjoyed your holiday and we hope we’ll get another chance to welcome you back soon.

The garden was beautifully landscaped and a pleasure to sit in, so many birds. The much bigger than expected pool and children's play area kept the younger of our party busy and amused. 4 generations plus their dogs will be recommending the Round House to friends and family

Bedrooms and ensuites beautifully presented. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots n pans but no provision for storing our food other than the fridges! Annoyingly we had to dismantle the dishwasher to de-clog and rinse out the jets as it was not cleaning properly.

With seven en suite bedrooms and a private little annexe, it makes sociable and flexible accommodation for a wonderful gathering of friends or family.

The grandeur begins as soon as you step into the main hall - the height of the house with vast rafters, the impressive open plan living space stretches the width of the house.

Cook in the well equipped kitchen area, then eat all together around the long oak and stone table below designer lighting.

Afterwards, snuggle up together below the big lofty oak beams around the wood burning stove and watch a family movie on the home cinema system.

On the same level are two of the comfortable bedrooms at either end of the house.

For enjoying a quiet book or the countryside views, climb up the vertical ladder to another comfy seating area on the mezzanine.

Children can gather in their own den on the ground floor with a TV and fun piano.

You will find five more bedrooms on this floor, all good sized and with French windows off the master double.

The annexe is ideal for anyone who loves a little peace and privacy, with exterior entrance and comprising a big en suite family bedroom with comfortable chairs, TV and drinks making facilities.

Outside is all the activity you could wish for, with a shared splendid indoor pool, play area and games room, as well as the farm walks to enjoy.

The Roundhouse also has its own big private sunny terrace at the back with furniture and barbecues and steps up to a lawn and a pretty meadow area to the side for running and chilling out.
