  • "Lovely family style home with fab facilities and really high standard of finish."

The owners basically left us alone (which I'm a big fan of!!) Really close to local amenities and felt incredibly safe. Nice enclosed garden for the dogs, good clear instructions and the hit tub was fantastic. On a side note... so sorry we left food there! Totally forgot about it.

Great location to explore the area. Tapeley Park is only 5 minutes away. Woolacombe beach was great for an autumn dog walk. This was perfect for the calming getaway that was needed. Thank you

  • "Very sweet and immaculately clean cottage."

Only downsides for us were the driveway was a bit tight to get into, I’ve got a medium sized 4x4 and we had to shunt round to get in and out. Also the listing mentions that dogs could get out of the garden, which is true, but there is nowhere to walk the dogs without taking the car. It was lovely to have apple and damson trees in the garden but our younger dog kept trying to eat the fallen ones so could only go out on the lead (grass was a bit long too). So for us it was not really that dog friendly. Hot tub was fabulous with great views. Would certainly recomend it to non dog owners.

Thank you for giving us feedback. We are surprised that you found the driveway a challenge as many guests bring two or even three cars and we have often had a couple of Transit vans and a couple of cars on site when the builders have been doing our upgrade with no problem at all. I am also a bit confused about your comments regarding dogs as we want them to be secure in the garden and whilst there are no footpaths on the road to our entrance many guests walk their pets up our drive to visit our picnic area and pixie house which adjoins the swimming pool area. Finally you have raised an issue about the length of the grass and the fruit trees. Unfortunately this year has been very challenging for grass cutting with months of drought when nothing grew and more recently extended periods of rain. I am sorry you found the grass too long for your taste. The issue with the fruit trees is not one we have encountered before. The trees were planted many years ago by people who had a very friendly golden retreiver. Some are now sadly moving towards the end of their lives. They provide a haven for wildlife, fabulous plums and apples which we welcome guests using and taking home when in season and also much needed shade in the height of the summer. We shall be very sorry to see them go and will consider carefully the best option for replacements. Property Owner

So well maintained and clean. All equipment was to a very high standard. Our dogs were well catered for with a lovely enclosed and secure garden for them to enjoy their holiday as well. Although we were surrounded by rolling fields with sheep in we were but a 5 minute drive from the nearest supermarket and the town centre of Bideford. We Will definitely return to this home from home.

  • "This is a beautiful house with lovely views over looking fields with animals grazing and the daily visits in the garden from the pheasants."

We really enjoyed the hot tub each evening. The kitchen was well equipped and the sofas in the sitting room are so comfortable. The only thing to be aware of is the garden is not enclosed as described. We have a small dog and he jumped over the small wall in the front garden within minutes of us being there. If some fencing could be put on the wall and a gate to the grassed area and to the side of the house it would be good to be able to sit in the garden without having to keep dogs on a lead. The sheep were moved into the 2 fields next to the house whilst we were there & it was great to watch the farmers herd them from the other field and bring them across the road to the farm. For anyone without animals this property is great and we would not hesitate to return if we did not have a dog. The owners were lovely when we spoke to them either on phone or in person and it shows they really care about ensuring their clients have a good place to stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted you had a lovely holiday but a little confused about the problem you have identified with a wall as the garden and parking area are both fully enclosed with gates to the garden and patios and another gate onto the lane which we close if guests leave it open when we move sheep up and down the drive and across the road. We have many guests with dogs staying at Pillhead Cottage and this is the first time this issue has been raised and we can only think that you had a problem with your dog staying in one part of the garden as there are no internal fences and gates within the garden so that we can retain the spectacular views. Just wanted to let you know that on the first day we parked on the stones. The next day the car got stuck. We got out eventually but with some difficulty. Otherwise everything was fine. Thank you so much for having us.

We are very pleased you enjoyed your holiday. Thank you very much for letting us know about the car park as but as we are only at the top of the drive we are disappointed that you didn't contact us immediately as someone is always on hand to assist and seeing the problem which must be very localised as the cottage has been very busy since May would have identified whether any immediate action was required not only to assist you but also future guests. The car park area is new this year and as the builder is coming to fit a new kitchen over the winter I will ask him to look at it. Property Owner

Perfect for visiting the beautiful beach at Westward Ho! The beds and the sofas were very comfortable. Our favourite part was the hot tub, with its great sunset view. If taking a smaller dog just check the garden before use as we found some of the gates into the field had larger gaps which could be squeezed under! Would definitely recommend this property.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay and we also appreciate you pointing out the space under the gates for smaller dogs. We will investigate what options are available to reduce this further and take what action we can. Property Owner

A good location to explore the area. The owner responded to queries. The drive is in need of repair as there was a nasty rut that had to be missed when entering.

Thank you for your feedback. We are really glad that you liked the location of the cottage. I must apologise that the drive posed a problem to you but unfortunately between reopening post Covid and your visit we had some severe rains which created the problem and which temporary fixes failed to resolve. We are discussing this issue with our builder and will be seeking to secure a long term solution to the issue over our winter closure period. Thank you for your feedback and your helpful comments which provide a guide for us to ascertain what work might need doing over the winter. We have investigated the boiler which is very reliable and identified an intermittent noise which we appreciate could be irritating. Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy the swimming pool and as we are closely monitoring usage due to the need to clean the pool area between guests we were aware that you had only very briefly visited the pool area on your first full day. The pool is definitely heated although being outdoor the temperature varies significantly throughout the season and even within a few days. We do not advertise a temperature for this reason. Unfortunately your visit followed a prolonged period of heavy rain, high chilly winds and overcast days and as such the temperature would not have been as high as you might have liked although a number of other guests used their slots fully and were disappointed by the fact they could not have more.
