  • "The apartment was spacious well equipped and clean it would benefit from some updates and painting, that said nothing major, also an information folder we had to ask howto get to cafe swimming pool etc, the staff were helpful as were the owners and the welcome pack much appreciated."

    We would definitely go again and recommend.

    The interior has been recently repainted . Having liaised with Susan the comment on painting refers to the entrance door which is due for replacement by the management company as part of a cpmplex wide project. We will update the welcome pack as suggested. We are very pleased that Susan intends returning. Property Owner

    Nice of you to lay on brilliant weather for early November. The pool is a real bonus- clean and just the right temperature. Burgh Island with The Pilchard Inn is fascinating and we really enjoyed our daily walk to the top of the island.

  • "Another lovely stay at appt 19, this is the 3rd time that we have stayed here."

    The appt was spotless and equipped with everything that you could need. Spectacular views to the west & wonderful sunsets every night. We enjoyed afternoons on the balcony and were able to sit outside until it got dark. Many thanks to the owners & Abi for all their efforts to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

  • "This is a great location with a fantastic view."

    It provided a safe environment for our kids and they loved the proximity to the beach. The owners were great and showed real interest in us having a good time. They made sure to check in and get our feedback and made us feel very much at home. I have not commented about the facilities as it is during Covid and therefore not many of the onsite facilities were open.

  • "“The apartment was well equipped & very comfortable home from home” Where to start!"

    We had a fantastic stay, the sea views were wonderful – we thoroughly watching the tide come in and out and watching the beach on busy days gave endless enjoyment! The apartment was spotless and had everything you need (and more!) We enjoyed a few meals from the onsite restaurant – just needed to order in advance. Every effort was been made to make our stay comfortable including a nice welcome pack on arrival, we even got a call from the owner during our stay to make sure everything was ok. Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this apartment, 10 out of 10. Thank you for a fabulous holiday, we will be back.

  • "This apartment is in a beautiful location overlooking Burgh Island to the South and out to sea to the west."

    We easily made contact with the housekeeper regarding arrival time and secure parking and key access to the property was very simple and straight forward. No 19 parking space and access stairs are at the far end of the car park and the front door to the property is on a lower level than the car park, down the flight of stairs. The property is in a good position, whatever the weather, to watch the tide wash in across the causeway from both sides of Burgh island as the tide goes in and out. The property has a generous size balcony with table and chairs to sit out on the warmer days. We weren’t lucky with the weather being November but the apartment is very spacious, it’s warm, comfortable, clean and well equipped, so we didn’t feel the need to go out every day. Our planned food supply and the well stocked shop down the road, meant we only ate out one lunch time, plus a cream tea at Bigbury Golf Club!!!!! We can recommend the Journeys End pub at Ringmoor for a nice lunch which we had after a walk down to Ayrmer Cove. There’s a National Trust car park (Free to Members) at the start of the walk and a steep but firm footpath down to the Cove, well worth the walk. Another nice walk is on the coastal path to Challaborough, starts from the end of the car park, a few metres from No19 parking space. More good views on this walk. There’s a small gym, swimming pool and restaurant on site and a friendly social community. We asked about opening times and were kept up to date through the week of what the daily opening times were. We were offered eat-in or take away meals from the on-site restaurant if we ordered in advance. One day we walked over to Burgh Island, it started raining and whilst we were sheltering under the porch of the Pilchard the barman opened up early for us and another couple and invited us in for a coffee. By the time the rain stopped and we walked round the island the tide was in so we took the £2 water taxi back, only takes a few minutes but a bit of novelty fun. This is a lovely well maintained apartment on a good small complex. Oh, and we enjoyed the tea, milk, wine and cake in the welcome pack!!!! thanks.”

  • "We found this apartment delightful."

    The accommodation is stylish and comfortable and extremely well equipped. The position and views exceptional. The weather was to say the least, stormy, but we were fascinated to watch the light changing on the sea, the waves crashing and the sea tractor crossing the causeway in all conditions. The area offers lovely scenery and interesting small towns with a good choice of restaurants and pubs. The access does involve flights of steps from the car park and to the beach, but we three septuagenarians managed them without a problem. The club is welcoming and the pool and sauna well kept and popular. A recent poor review was, in our opinion, completely unfounded.

  • "Firstly and most import to me as a bit of a clean freak, the apartment wasn’t nearly as clean as we expected, the photos of it, I guess were taken a few years ago Secondly, as I have a bad hip, We were told there were 20 steps up to the apartment and 6 steps down to the beach - there were in fact 28 steps down to the apartment, via a very scruffy staircase and no steps to the beach!"

    We had to use the staircase to get in and out. The restaurant on site closed early the day we arrived so we had nothing to eat. The pub across the causeway didn’t look very clean or inviting. In the details it said there was a shop within a mile which was a beach shop selling buckets and spades - no food. The other store which did sell food was a walk over the coast path to the next bay, good job it was mostly good weather. The village was stunning once you’d navigated the 5 1/2 mile single track road to reach it - but probably better to visit not to stay.

    Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed visiting this beautiful area. We must admit that we were surprised at some of the issues raised since we have never before received criticism of either the apartment or the location. Our cleaner has been with us for some time and has only received glowing reports previously (see reviews). Also, the photographs of the property are recent (taken last April). The property is listed on the website as "raised ground floor (no lift access, steps down from car park)", so there are some steps involved to access the apartment. It is also detailed that the leisure centre is open in high season between 10am to 9pm but for all other times of the year customers should contact the Leisure Centre for opening times (It closes at 8pm on Fridays, Saturdays and 6pm on other days; takeaways can be ordered). We also advised you ahead of your stay that you should book for dinner. The closest shop is described as 3 miles away. I am sorry to hear that you had trouble reaching food shops but we did advise you in our information email sent a few days before your arrival that we recommend shopping at St Annes Chapel, the shop just 3 miles away on the main road. A majority of customers do bring a stock of food along with them as it is a self-catering apartment, in case they decide to dine at the property. Property Owner

  • "This was our fourth visit to Burgh Island Apartments."

    We love it here. Number 19 is a fabulous apartment with marvellous views of the beach and sunsets. It was clean and well equipped. We had a really relaxing week. We ate lovely meals in the on site cafe. Food at the Pilchard Inn was good and we had great fish and chips in Challaborough Bay. We also had nice takeaway pizzas from the Pickwick Inn. The sea and beach are clean and safe and the kids body boarded every day. It was a really lovely holiday.

  • "We enjoyed a fabulous week at this apartment in mid-August, on a multi-generational family break with my mother and 2."

    5 year old son. The apartment was just as described and shown in the pictures; modern, comfortable and immaculately clean, with everything you could need to relax into your holiday. The unobstructed view from the apartment's large terrace is stunning. The setup of the apartment block, with a coffee shop/ restaurant, gym and swimming pool on site was just perfect. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, and enjoying a latte or hot chocolate on the terrace after a morning swim was a real treat! We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant one evening and it was perfectly nice, although it's also worth heeding some of the recommendations made by the Owners; we did and enjoyed a truly fabulous meal at the Oyster Shack, about a 10 min drive from the apartment, as well as a couple of tasty "takeaway" lunches from the Pilchard Inn (the pub across the causeway on Burgh Island) on the beach. The location of the apartment couldn't have been more ideal for us; being right on the beach made it easy for everyone in our group to do things at their own pace, and my son just loved spending endless hours on the beach, building sand castles, paddling in the sea and exploring the many rock pools. Just the fact that, being directly on the beach, we didn't have to worry about getting parking or deal with the traffic of getting there - when you have to deal with family logistics every other week of the year, not having to do so for a little while really helps with the sense of relaxation! There are stairs to access the apartment, but nothing too strenuous for either my toddler son, my 70 year old mother or me at 32 weeks pregnant. We heeded the advice in the Sykes Holidays email and organised a supermarket delivery to arrive a few hours after check in which worked like a dream, although there is a beach shop next to the complex which sells snacks and a few essentials (eg. milk & bread). Finally, the Owner was so kind in our interactions, sending us some wonderful recommendations ahead of our arrival and being very helpful when we had a question during our stay. All in all, it was simply the perfect relaxing holiday for my family with something for everyone, and we're already planning our return visit.

    Apartment was well equipped and suitable for a family of 4. In the building is also a swimming pool and gym (signs to these could be better) In the neighborhood there are more than enough things to do, like walking, surfing, small villages, nice pubs and the city centre of Plymouth is only 30 min drive. Highly recommend this apartment!

Apartment 19 is a raised ground floor apartment quietly set at the far end to the leisure facilities, with the fabulous views to south and west and big glass doors opening to a good sized terrace with sun loungers and outdoor furniture.

The bright open plan living space has cream leather sofas on which to relax and watch the TV, quartz work surfaces and light oak furnishings and floor.

To the rear are the en suite bedrooms, comfortable and quiet.

With the beach so handy and the leisure centre and restaurant/bar to enjoy, this is an ideal coastal holiday location.

BIGBURY-ON-SEA

Modbury 6 miles; Plymouth 12 miles.

Bigbury-on-Sea is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideal for family holidays. Dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, the beach offers safe fun for groups particularly if you’ve got children in tow. In addition, Bigbury-on-Sea beach is dotted with rock pools, so there’s plenty of entertainment for budding marine biologists. There’s also a wide and varied selection of watersports available to visitors who prefer their holidays to feature a little adrenaline rush. Burgh Island boasts an award-winning hotel, elegant and rather genteel, it’s an ideal romantic retreat for couples. Explore the South Devon coast with its fabulous sandy beaches and its breathtakingly beautiful coastal path or simply take time to visit some of the charming estuary towns and villages dotted throughout the area, such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. The city of Plymouth and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor are also both close at hand.
