  • "A fantastic stay in a tuely lovely cottage."

From start to finish the whole experience was excellent. We enjoyed our stay so much we have already booked for next year and will be coming back later this year if there is any availability. Theinformation provided was spot on with all the details we needed.

Very well equipped, but starting to need an end of season revamp on some items (balcony table missing an adjuster on leg, shower head in en-suite needs replacing).

  • "We had an absolutely lovely time at Tarifa 6."

The views of Bigbury beach were just beautiful. Everything (particularly kitchen) was very well equipped and was a high standard and good quality too. Beds were comfy with really nice sheets. The communal garden and other areas were kept very tidy and nice. Communication prior to arrival with the property managers was excellent. The only thing that could improve the property would be the addition of a bath (and slightly faster wifi)….. but that is being very picky! We would certainly book again!

  • "The double room on suite, was the smallest on suite I have ever come across."

The shower was not very good at all, cold water only for the first five minutes, and a fixed shower head that was almost impossible to escape from. Not a very pleasant experience. Apart from that, the accommodation was ok.

Thank you for your feedback. On our recent visit to the property, I used this shower and the hot water does take time to come through (not 5 minutes) It worked fine. The bathroom is small but there is not much that can be done about that. We invested considerably in a new main bathroom with walk in shower and heated floor. This does make the other bathroom seem small, but I don’t see any problem in people choosing to use the nicer bathroom and not using the en-suite. Property Owner

Appreciative of the EV charger made travelling much simpler but would be good to include some more information about it in the booking details, I was a little doubtful it would be there as there was no mention of it apart from the icon.

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We are pleased you benefited from the electric car charging point. Thank you for your feedback about providing more information about the charger. We have asked Helpful Holidays to amend the website and welcome pack email to include more information about the charger. Property Owner

Really appreciated the cream tea on arrival as well as the addition of tea towels, shower gel, hand soap and dish wash tabs etc. So many holiday lets do not include these basics, which means you have to go and buy them or bring them with you. The view was lovely too and would highly recommend to others.

Very well equipped kitchen in this welcoming modern house. Everything needed for a comfortable, relaxing break and very comfortable beds too! An absolute joy to sit and look at the beautiful views from both verandahs. A lovely home in a lovely part of the country.

  • "Brilliant week in a lovely holiday home."

Stayed in Tarifa because our usual Bigbury holiday home was fully booked, but we really liked it. Very clean and comfortable, with fabulous views. Loved the balcony and sun room. Only quibble was the check in/out still being at 5pm arrival (although this was adjusted to 4pm the week before) and 9am departure. Also the Wi-Fi was quite poor, not necessarily a holiday essential but we couldn’t even complete Wordle at the same time! (Appreciate Bigbury-On-Sea is not a signal hotspot but much better in the 2 neighbouring flats where our family members were staying).

  • "The property is in a lovely location, in a wonderful part of Devon for places to visit."

Sadly the accommodation is a little tired and did not look as good as the photos. The ensuite is very small and the shower difficult to get right. The sofa's are a bit hard but all other seating and beds were comfortable. Fortunately we were blessed with wonderful weather which made our stay a very memorable experience.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you felt that the property was a little tired. The owners have taken on board your comments and will be at the property in the next couple of weeks and will check the décor and furnishings. There have been no previous comments on the shower, should you have contacted the housekeepers during your stay they would have been more than happy to help you. The owners are planning major renovations to the apartment in late 2022. Property Owner

Spacious/living dining room. Small but well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Loos on both floors. Shed had BBQ and beach ware made available. All made an excellent stay. Would like to return another year but 50% price hike has definitely put me off. Will look elsewhere.

  • "The property wasn’t very clean, there was dog hair everywhere and quite a few of the bowls had what looked like pasta sauce still in them."

There was significant dust and dirt all over the staircase and generally it was quite dirty and not what we have come to expect. It’s a bit disappointing especially when you are telling everyone that they the cleaners need longer to clean as a result of COVID and you are asking everyone to check in later and check out earlier and we get there and it looks like it hasn’t been cleaned at all. This will not stop us from returning so hopefully this was just a one off.

Thank you for sending in your feedback which we are most grateful for. We have passed your comments to the owner of 6 Tarifa and asked that the points raised are discussed with the housekeeper and rectified with immediate effect. Whilst I understand the extra time needed for Covid cleaning, expecting people to be out by 9am is too early especially as we have to strip all of the beds before this

Many thanks for your feedback. I do understand that checking out before 9am at the end of what I hope was a relaxing holiday for you seems quite early. This has only changed due to the covid-19 pandemic. Our property managers have requested this to enable them to do a thorough cleaning job for our guests. Our property managers have been working very hard in these difficult times with the priority of keeping staff and guests safe from covid-19 infection. They have a number of additional cleaning measures which are time consuming, for example, the cleaners need extra time to do the second stage of anti-viral point cleaning. Our priority has to be staff and guest safety and this, at the end of the day, is why we have asked our guests to check out by 9am. Property Owner

  • "Your listing for the property shows pub in less than 1 mile."

This would only be true if you include the pub on Burgh Island, or the bar at the next bay which would require you to walk the coastal path to get to it. If you are going to keep this in you need to be more detailed. The listing mentions the property having a ground floor bedroom, which gives the impression that it is accessible for someone with mobility issues, but as the property is upside down, i.e. bedrooms on ground floor and living space on the first floor with the front door, it still requires you to use the stairs. You describe the sitting room as spacious, this is not accurate (spacious would be large with a lot of space).

We are very happy to provide further details on local pubs. The Pilchard pub is just under a 600m walk at low tide across the beach to Burgh island. The bar at Challaborough is also approx. 600m walk along the coastal path. The Journery's End pub at Ringmore is a 2km walk along coastal path and lanes. The main lounge is 4.60m x 5.30m in area. All 3 bedrooms are on the ground floor but I would not consider them to be suitable for wheelchair access. Property Owner

The property

This apartment is one of seven in a building in Bigbury-on-Sea.

Just 350 yards from the big sandy beach, it is peaceful, light reverse-level accommodation with fantastic sea views.

Step up to your entrance into the spacious sitting room, a lovely place to relax on the squashy sofas or enjoy leisurely meals prepared in the efficient kitchen and slide open the full height glass doors on a fine day to the balcony which looks out across the bay and has a table for four to enjoy alfresco meals.

Stairs take you down to the three bedrooms, the en suite double room a cracking space with glass doors through to a charming sunroom with table and chairs which opens to the terrace.

Outside, as well as the balcony, you have a secure shed for stashing your beach stuff and use of the shared lawn which is carefully manicured.

Few can resist the magnetic pull of the spectacular beach below the apartment, a huge stretch of golden sand which stretches to Burgh Island.

Surf, maybe with the popular surf school, build sandcastles or stroll the open space, and walk across to the iconic island which inspired some of Agatha Christie’s mysteries and then catch the long legged sea tractor back at high tide for a ride to remember.

For walkers, the South West Coast Path is just moments from the apartment, a fabulous footpath which climbs and dips to spectacular views and secluded coves.

Golfers can play on Bigbury’s challenging cliff top course and shopaholics will be in seventh heaven in Salcombe and Kingsbridge with their independent shops and fascinating galleries.

6 Tarifa is a splendid seaside base for a memorable coastal holiday.

About the location

BIGBURY-ON-SEA

Modbury 6 miles; Plymouth 12 miles.

Bigbury-on-Sea is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideal for family holidays. Dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, the beach offers safe fun for groups particularly if you’ve got children in tow. In addition, Bigbury-on-Sea beach is dotted with rock pools, so there’s plenty of entertainment for budding marine biologists. There’s also a wide and varied selection of watersports available to visitors who prefer their holidays to feature a little adrenaline rush. Windsurfing and kite-surfing are popular here, with hire facilities located right on the beach. To give you some peace of mind, there are lifeguards present at Bigbury-on-Sea beach during May to September and the beach also has a first-aid room. You can even take the dog onto the beach, although they are restricted to certain areas during the summer. Bigbury’s most famous landmark is Burgh Island, which overlooks the beach itself. The island is accessible at low tide, when the waters reveal a causeway that links it to the beach. However, when the tide is in you can still reach the island by hitching a ride on the popular and unique ‘sea tractor’. Burgh Island boasts an award-winning hotel, elegant and rather genteel, it’s an ideal romantic retreat for couples. Explore the South Devon coast with its fabulous sandy beaches and its breathtakingly beautiful coastal path or simply take time to visit some of the charming estuary towns and villages dotted throughout the area, such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. The city of Plymouth and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor are also both close at hand.
