  • "The barn was clean, spacious and well equipped."

The grandchildren especially liked playing in the large garden and in the indoor pool. The nearby Wonwell beach was an attractive bonus. We had a great stay and would definitely consider returning.

  • "Wonderful property."

Narrow lanes, but that’s to be expected in Devon. The pool was enjoyed by all of us. Great layout with plenty of room . However considering the late check in we were expecting it to be cleaner. I really don’t mind stripping beds, this seems to be the norm since Covid, but to find grubby and stain mattress protectors was a shock. I do hope these were changed or replaced for the guests after us. We did find we could not recycle at shop suggested as they refused it.

Fantastic holiday home with everything you require Comfy lounge, great table to sit around with all the family for games etc Beautiful pool, although gets deep very quickly so beware with little ones Well maintained large garden Shower cubicle could be slightly bigger as compact for adults Many cobwebs in downstairs bedrooms The garden is crying out for a BBQ All in all highly recommended and would love to return in future years

Be aware of the lanes, lots of single track lanes with Barrow passing places. Beautiful part of the country though. 10am check out and 5pm check in feels a little extreme. But if they are my only criticisms, then what a fabulous find! Loved it!

  • "The home was amazing, for our party."

We had a wonderful stay and would love to return. So much thought and attention to detail. Just two niggles that need mentioning. 1) when trying to watch tv in the evening, sky kept crashing, making it impossible to enjoy a movie. Also someone set up a security code? But we could not find it anywhere, so a lot of programmes were unobtainable. We also had to put our own details for netflix and prime in. It would be better if those were set up under guest already. 2) If too many people have a bath or shower, at the same time, the water runs out. Not sure why, but it was irritating.

  • "Great Torr Barn was everything we hoped it would be."

The layout allowed us to socialise as a family in comfort and style, we enjoyed meals around the large dining table. Each room was beautifully furnished and a great deal of thought had been put into the smallest details. The whole barn was extremely well equipped and the kitchen was the best equipped we have ever had in a holiday property. The garden was delightful and the swimming pool was excellent. We would love to return to Great Torr Barn in the future.

Good size kitchen, nice big dining table, plenty of seating. All rooms we're good sizes and comfy and an amazing swimming pool. The only few things I would say is the master bedroom down stairs smelt damp and some of the drawer and wardrobes in the rooms smelt really musty and old

We would love to go back again, we will be thinking of coming back in the future, the only downside was that we had to hoover the beams and the ceiling due to the amount of cob webs as spiders were coming down in every room, which was a problem with the kids, apart from that everybody thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you

  • "We had a fabulous family holiday at this very comfortable property."

It is well furnished and the pool is a definite draw its a good size and very clean. We would definitely return for a future stay. We have a couple of comments just for your information....The pool was quite cold! The lighting was not working and we had to wait until the last few days of the holiday before this was repaired. The cot should be listed as a travel cot with no proper mattress. We had to make up a mattress using throws as the base is far too hard. The high chair was really good and we were pleased to find a stair gate though we had to add security to the latch as its not toddler safe! Despite these few issues we would highly recommend this property.

  • "The cottage was lovely and very comfortable."

The only issue we had was that when we came back late one evening there wasn’t a lot of light to see our way down the steps and into the house. Otherwise no complaints at all. We tried to book again for August next year but it was already booked up so it is clearly very popular. Will almost certainly return again sometime

  • "Great Torr Barn was beautiful and we all had a great time."

The ponol was lovely and the children had a great time. The property was very well equipped just fabulous. If there is one thing I would suggest is that any problems with the property be recorded somewhere for the new tenants to see. Check in was quite late 5pm and when we got in the property there was a huge stain on the carpet which we felt you should be aware of at once as we didn’t want to be held responsible. As you can imagine food to sort out, cases to unpack and amid this we had to contact yourselves, it was a bit stressful. The next day we discovered the overflow in the upstairs bathroom was out and on the side of the bath which we felt again had to be reported. It would be helpful if there was a list of faults so we could dismiss them and get on with enjoying our holiday. Regards Jean Daffin

  • "When we originally looked on the web site then phoned to book, it wasn’t obvious that the pool was only open seasonally and as such we had to pay extra."

I have noticed this has now changed. When we arrived after 5pm (as instructed) in the dark, there were no lights on outside. This is dangerous as there are steps (especially with excited children).Perhaps leaving the outside lights on would be a good idea! The shower door in the upstairs bedroom was off and only propped in place. We refitted it but it needs to be checked. The overflow/ plug release in the bath was also broken when we arrived so the bath was unusable, and still is. Regardless of the few things mentioned we had a fantastic time, the pool and other facilities were brilliant and would definitely hire this property again for a family gathering.

I also tried to call and held for over an hour to no avail. Customer services was abysmal!!

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay. The pool at this property was opened on the 25th July and has remained open since this date. • "We believe the swimming pool chlorine levels were too high."

Two of my grandsons had severe skin rashes after swimming, the nine year olds face was red and very sore at bedtime. My other grandson developed flu- like symptoms with fever, headache and abdominal discomfort. We treated all boys with paracetamol and antihistamine which eased symptoms to a degree but sadly we had to bar them from the pool on Sunday and they were unfit to enjoy any other physical activities. Two boys returned to school today with coughs and very red itchy eyes. The adults in our party are suffering from extremely dry skin and dry irritating coughs. I intended to swim on Sunday but didn't do so after the children's symptoms so I have avoided illness. We chose this location for our family break especially because of the pool and the children's love of swimming. Ironically, this has been the cause of our holiday being ruined and many of us still suffering the consequences. I would not go to The Great Torr Barn again or anywhere with a private pool without guaranteed proof that the water was properly and regularly treated. As I type this my husband continues to cough and we look forward to another disturbed night!

Many thanks for your feedback regarding the pool. We are sorry you felt the chlorine levels were high. A fully qualified pool maintenance company checks the pool and the chlorine levels once a week which was done before your arrival and the chlorine level was accurate. During your stay, as you know the reputable company came again to check the chlorine and found it was at a safe level. We apologise that the chlorine levels impacted on your stay, however we are required to seek professional guidance from an external pool company, who advised that the chlorine levels should not be lowered. The swimming pool at Great Torr Barn is one of the fantastic features that our guests have previously always enjoyed, so we are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic holiday barn, outstanding facilities, they catered for everything you could possibly wish for."

We loved the added touch of the Welcome chocolate cake and various teas and coffee pods and organic fudge :-) plus a bottle of milk in the large American style fridge - after a long journey it was just what we needed to start our holiday off on the right note. We settled into Barn life extremely well, the extra large sofas and plenty of cushions were extremely comfortable. All mod cons were appreciated Sky Q and fast Wi-fi was a bonus, especially for the children. Lots of books to choose from all around the barn and an abundance of board games also. Then there was the indoor swimming pool, although we had good weather in late October and managed to do a lot of sightseeing both locally in Devon with Burgh Island just around the corner, and further afield in Looe & Polperro in Cornwall, we would still gravitate towards the pool for a swim at the end of the day! Fabulous ‘party’ home and we thoroughly enjoyed celebrating my husband’s 50th birthday with family and friends - we will definitely be back again for a return visit - a hidden gem for sure!
