"Had a lovely holiday, thanks."
No issues, comfy bungalow with beautiful views. Great community tea shop/cafe on the corner, again with great views.
"Quarterdeck is a great holiday home - very clean, well laid out and well appointed."
..with lovely views of the sea...we had a great stay. The croquet set is a lovely touch - our kids really enjoyed playing. Thank you!
"Delightful property in great location with stunning views."
"We had a wonderful week at Quarterdeck."
The sea views were stunning. With just a short walk to the beach and the coastal walks it was just perfect for us and our dog. We will definitely look to come again.
"Quarterdeck is a delight - a beautiful, well-equipped holiday home with fantastic sea views."
We had a wonderful relaxing week.
"Quarterdeck is set in idyllic surroundings overlooking Burgh Island and the beach is less than five minutes walk away."
There are lovely views from the rental.
"The pictures of Quarterdeck do not do it justice."
It's a beautiful bungalow in a lovely place with a amazing sea view and sunsets. We would definitely like to return
"Brilliant views looking over Burgh island lovely quiet location ."
"Quarterdeck is situated in a lovely spot , the picturess views from the garden or from inside are fantastic overlooking the bay and sea, the property is clean and tidy and has been refurnished, home from home and an ideal location to totally relax ."
We had a fantastic week travelling out to nearby towns and bays lovely beach and coastal walks with our dog Alfie then relax back at quarterdeck in the garden with a beer and finally go to bed in a very comfy bed .had a lovely time .
"Spectacular views, minutes from the beach, all your home comforts."
Quarterdeck was a fantastic holiday home away from home. Wake up panoramic sea views, then decide whether to walk down to the beach, surf in the kid friendly waves, relax in the garden, hike up the hills or visit the pub on Burgh Island. For a South Devon retreat, look no further than Quarterdeck in Bigbury-on-Sea - we’ll be back. The Durhams
"Fantastic bungalow and lovely views we will definitely go again sorry we had to go home"
"Lovely place to stay it’s on a steep hill so if you’re not so fit you would need a car to and from the beach."
Thank you for your feedback. Quarterdeck is only approximately 250 meters from coastal path and beach. Property Owner
"The position of Quarterdeck is something really special."
The garden that wraps all around the property gives the feeling of privacy and seclusion. I think it is the best property in Bigbury-on-Sea form which to watch the sunset. A real rare find and I was so happy to celebrate my 30th birthday in this unique location with my family. I will definitely be booking this property again.
"The views are amazing & the cottage is extremely clean."
The shower is powerful & having a separate toilet was great. Will stay again :)
"Very nice cottage in a lovely location, close to the sea with great views of the bay and Burgh island."
A tumble dryer would be useful, other than that the cottage has everything needed.
"Quarterdeck was a real home from home."
From the moment we arrived, with a welcoming bottle of wine and shortbread biscuits, to the very well furnished and equipped home. Despite inclement weather we walked from the cottage each day with our dog, who lived the nearby beaches. An excellent week!
"I would have no hesitation in recommending Quarterdeck."
The owners have endeavoured to equip the house with everything you need for for a comfortable stay. It also had a modern bathroom, useful large utility room, cosy log burning stove and stunning views. Perfectly located for the beach and for the wonderful coastal walks-we will definitely be back.
"A very comfortable bungalow with fantastic coastal views."
Local amenities (pubs, shops etc) not within walking distance. Heavily reliant on the car. Walking our little dog across the causeway to Burgh Island at low tide was great fun.
"It should be noted that we had to use the car to get to the beach as the hill was too steep for us on the way back."
The beach was great. It was handy being able to play in the garden until the tide went out, the tide table provided was invaluable to plan our days.
Thank you for your feedback and for giving Quarterdeck a 100% rating across the board. We are sorry to hear you found the slope up from the beach steep; in the last 4 years no other families have reported the need to use a car. It is just 200 metres to the coastal path and the beach is not far beyond this. Property Owner
"Just had a great week at Quarterdeck."
Excellent location for a week's worth of playing on the beech. Lovely spacious property that had everything we needed. Utility room was perfect for keeping all the beach kit in one place. A week of hot sun helped too!!!!
"Quarterdeck was an excellent property for us."
( Apart from the weather) we really enjoyed our stay.
"The views from the cottage are amazing."
Everything was great except the weather! The utility room was particularly useful. We loved it. The only thing lacking was a light in the fridge and I thought perhaps a little step for small children may be useful.
Thank you for your comments. The fridge bulb has been replaced. Kind regards Property Owner
"This cottage has amazing views, it's clean, we all slept well in the beds, powerful shower, kitchen well equipped for self catering, loved the picnic bench for outdoor dining watching the sunset, useful utility area."
We'd love to come again to try out the surfing school.
"Quarterdeck has a lovely position with brilliant sea views."
However it is in need of some TCL looks very tired in certain areas. Kitchen area not brilliant needs good spruce up looking very tired and the extractor fan is very dated and grubby. Tiles and edges need regrouting or replacing. Bathroom has been updated and is good, lots of hot water could do with a non slip bath mat, towels are rather on the small side. Bedroom needs decorating but bed and linens were lovely very comfy bed. Extension on side was very useful especially for drying off our doggies after their swim. Garden area was lovely and enjoyed sitting and enjoying the views. Cottage was comfortable overall just needs a uplift.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed Quarterdeck and liked the new bathroom, new mattresses and wonderful sea views. We annually update and redecorate, and we agree that the extractor fan needs changing. Property Owner
"Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing week at Quarterdeck!"
In need of some rest and relaxation, we set off to Devon and Bigbury on Sea with our faithful springador, Jack. What a treat was in store for us! Comfy beds with fluffy pillows and duvets, A powerful hot shower to energise us in the morning and the most amazing views from the sitting room windows! Very well equipped and spacious with a homely sitting room to relax in. Quarterdeck is a delight! We loved waking in the morning to the sound of sheep and baby lambs in the adjoining field and the incredible sunsets. Jack especially enjoyed the long walks and swimming in the sea!! He was less keen on visiting historic houses but we enjoyed them! There is so much to see and do and enjoy. Quarterdeck really is an excellent base for exploring and if like us, you bring your faithful friend, then the utility room is perfect for drying off and relaxing after a hard day’s work chasing your tennis ball into the sea! If you need to rest and relax or are in search of action and activity, then Quarterdeck makes a fabulous base. We loved it!
"Fabulous bungalow with amazing views."
Very comfortable, cosy and well equipped. Lots of hot water. Great utility area for sandy beach bits. Loved playing croquet.
"We've just had a glorious October half-term at Quarterdeck."
Toasty warm, the cottage feels homely and snug, and the cosy living-room really does have AMAZING views. Bedrooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the cottage equipped with everything we needed. We loved exploring this area and will DEFINITELY be back to Quarterdeck.
"We had a most enjoyable stay at Quarterdeck in a delightful area that we last stayed in nearly 20 years ago."
We found the bungalow offered every possible comfort and amenity that we could have asked for and was lovely and clean. The beds were extremely comfortable which resulted in a good nights sleep, something that we don't always get away from home The standard and cleanliness of the linen were far higher than most cottages we have stayed in and of the quality normally associated with top hotels. The view along the coast from the living room was one we will always remember to enjoy the spectacular sunsets. It was all the thoughtful extras provided by the owners that helped make the holiday, most comfortable outdoor chairs/loungers to enjoy the beautiful private garden, croquet, plenty of games as well as boards and a windbreak for the beach. Due to the location we only used the car once during our stay with superb coastal and estuary walks as well as the iconic Burgh Island to explore. A wonderful stay in a most comfortable property that we can highly recommend.
"A lovely cottage with a fabulous garden and view."
Bigbury is a nice traditional seaside village with a lovely beach and Island. Excellent Kayaking!
"Quarterdeck's location was perfect with magical views from the lounge windows of the Coastline and Burgh Island, we saw fantastic sunsets every night."
The garden offers sun and shade and sun chairs for comfort. The property had surf boards to take down to the beach and a wind break. We were very lucky to have wall to wall sunshine all week. We enjoyed walking along the beach and on the way back stopping off for a drink at the Pilchard inn. Apart from a day out to Salcombe we stayed in Bigbury-on-sea all week. Had a very good meal at the White Hart in Modbury and lovely Fish and chips at Fryer Tucks in Challaborough. Thank you for a great holiday in Devon.
"Quarterdeck is in a fantastic location with amazing views for a family beach or walking holiday."
Loved sitting with a real fire watching the waves crashing on the rocks below at the end of the day , lovely relaxing holiday
"We wanted a property with a sea view and we certainly got that."
Excellent location just up from the beach and just meters from the coast path.
"Lovely property in a fantastic location."

Modbury 6 miles.
Quarterdeck is an aptly named property, being perched above Bigbury-on-Sea.
Directly overlooking Burgh Island, it commands a stunning, south-facing panoramic view of Bigbury Bay, stretching from Bolt Tail in the east to Stoke Point in the west.
The sitting room and all the bedrooms have sea views.
From this cottage, it is just a five-minute walk down a quiet, no-through road to the South West Coast Path and Bigbury Beach, one of the loveliest sandy beaches in the South West.
As you enter the cottage, you first pass the utility room, ideal for drying wetsuits and swimwear.
Next you will pass the kitchen on the way to the hallway where you can go left to the bedrooms and bathroom, or right to the open plan sitting room with dining area.
Step outside for alfresco meals in the spacious lawned garden or watch the sun setting over the coast or spot the Eddystone Lighthouse twinkling at night far out to sea.
There is so much to do at Bigbury throughout the year.
Guests can take a ride on the unique sea-tractor at high tide across the causeway to Burgh Island and explore this magical island, taking time to stop for a drink or snack in the old fishermans pub, the Pilchard Inn.
For that special occasion there is nowhere better or grander than The Burgh Island Hotel, celebrated for its Art Deco design and for the inspiration it gave to its regular visitor, Agatha Christie, to write one of her best known murder mysteries, And Then There Were None.
Perfect for classic bucket-and-spade holidays, Bigbury-on-Sea is also ideal for surfing, windsurfing and kayaking.
Equipment hire and lessons can be booked for all of these activities at the Discovery Surf School.
Also located by the beach is the Venus Cafe, which serves delicious, organic and free-range food throughout the year.
Bigbury Golf Club, noted for its friendliness, is also open all year round.
Keen walkers will be spoilt for choice here with some of the most spectacular stretches on the South West Devon Coast Path being right on the doorstep.
For anyone who can tear themselves away from this idyllic location, the charming towns of Modbury, Salcombe and Kingsbridge are all close by, whilst Plymouth, Dartmouth and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor are also all within easy reach.
With so much to do and so many options available, Quarterdeck is the perfect spot for a holiday at any time of year.
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.
