  • "Accommodation set in quiet and central location to many South Devon attractions."

Beds very comfortable. Felt at home as soon as we arrived. Would of been better with lined curtains in bedrooms especially smaller room, as opposite neighbours security light came on several times in the night. Also needed thicker duvets for this time of year. Only slight hiccup was non receipt of key code for the front door. Contacted owner over phone before arrival and was asked where we had got his number, but was obviously provided by Sykes.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Forge Place so much we've already booked to return."

Gill and Adam the owners are a lovely friendly couple and made us feel very welcome. The beds were so comfortable as was the lounge corner sofa. We had good weather and were able to sit out in the garden watching the Robins. Widdicombe and Ashburton are well worth a visit , not forgetting Trago Mills which is just a few minutes drive toward Newton Abbott.

Getting around is easy and there are plenty of places to visit within easy reach such as Castle Drogo, Buckfast Abbey and of course Trago Mills which is usually the cheapest place to fill up the car with petrol.

Welcome pack was very generous. Nice shops, cafes and pubs all within walking distance. Would highly recommended the Dolphin. Good mix of customers, great food and staff with a very comfortable feel. Small garden is very private but be warned, if you sit out there later in the afternoon and you’re lucky enough for the sun to be out, it’s very hot. Perfect for couples or with one or two smaller children, a little cramped for more than this. One observation is that the fridge is very small, but not a great issue. Very quiet road and the neighbours we spoke to were very friendly. Have no problem in recommending Forge Place for your holiday.

  • "Forge Place was a very comfortable place to stay in, and very conveniently situated, and the owners provided a really substantial and much-appreciated welcome pack of food and drink."

As a base for a couple or small family it provided all the necessities for a stay in the Dartmoor area. We loved Bovey Tracey as a town, and were delighted to find our stay coincided with a National Garden Scheme Open Gardens weekend, so we got to see some of the lovely local gardens. We also enjoyed the Craft Centre, and the Art Gallery at Bovey Paradiso, and a walk in the Parke Estate, such a great facility on the doorstep. Bovey Tracey was well placed for us to visit Castle Drogo (National Trust place to the north), and to visit friends in North Dartmoor, and to get to National Trust properties Greenway and Coleton Fishacre further south. As regards the house, we might have enjoyed the use of a DVD player and some DVDs and books, but perhaps these were taken away during the Covid pandemic. We were able to buy some books at the town's charity shops, and there was enough on TV channels to keep us occupied of an evening, anyway, but it is always interesting to see what can be found amongst a holiday let's DVDs and books! The town was well provided with food shops, pubs, and cafes. So glad we made the journey (the travelling down was the worst part, took a lot longer than expected). Thanks for a lovely holiday.

Dartmoor is within 1/4 of a mile of the property for the walkers and the famous Trago Mill is just 2 miles away for all the shoppers, lots to do and see in the area with excellent road links to all the major coastal resorts. Gill and Adam could not have been nicer, and the welcome pack was the best we have ever had, it equated to a small shop. The neighbours were very friendly too, all in all, it was great holiday and we got great weather too, not uncommon in South Devon. Highly recommend.

I would certainly recommend it to anyone considering staying in that area. I was really grateful for the basic food package that was left in the kitchen, although a lot of it went to waste, as we had brought similar items with us..The addition of Netflix premium was also a welcome and unexpected extra that I wasn't expecting.

  • "What a wonderful holiday home."

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely be returning. The welcome hamper on arrival was appreciated by my son as im gluten and dairy free so i couldn't enjoy most of it but lovely idea. Would of been nice to see a herbal teabag not just tea/coffee sachets. The home is private and not overlooked in the garden. I would of liked access to a seat in the garden but understand they must of been packed away for winter. Other good points comfy bed very clean all round. Everything needed is there dishwasher tablets Sanitizer loo roll. Theres use of a hoover and iron. The shower was fabulous a walk in type. Great for people with disabilities like myself. In fact the whole bungalow is accessible. Only difficulty i had was lifting my scoota in and out the raised front step and only negative for me is the duvet insert 13.5 tog is much too thick. I was much too hot at night and had heating off. Perhaps keep a lightweight one in the airing cupboard. Lovely quiet area. Shops are a comfortable walking distance. Lovely walks on the Parke estate. Moors nearby. My next stay will be sure to include a visit to the best tearoom in Lustleigh few miles drive from Bovey who do cater for most dietary requirements. Looking forward to my next break. Big Thankyou to owners for such a lovely stay!

Thank you very much for your feedback and we are very glad that you had a lovely stay. You were right about the garden furniture being stored for the winter and maybe we need to get it out of storage earlier. Take care Property Owner

About the location

BOVEY TRACEY

Newton Abbott 6.5 miles; Teigmouth 10 miles; Exeter 15 miles

Nestled in the valley of the River Bovey is this stunning little town known as "The Gateway to the Moor". Bovey Tracey got its name from the meandering river that flows through it, with 'Tracey' representing the family that were the lords of the manor after the Norman Conquest. It has a great history with heavy involvement in the English Civil War which resulted in the name of the town's pub "The Cromwell Arms" which serves real ale and good food. The history of the town can be discovered in the Heritage Centre, with the Dartmoor National Park Authority also nearby. Bovey Tracey offers a selection of shops and cafés along with the stunning Mill Marsh Park and the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery which offers guided tours. The town comes just outside of the Dartmoor National Park which provides seemingly endless walking and cycling paths along with incredible scenery. The market town of Newton Abbot sits nearby, offering a fantastic day out with charming buildings and a good range of amenities.
