The cottage exceeded our expectations with its stunning, wrap-around views over the hills from virtually all the rooms. The house was immaculately clean, and extremely well-equipped, especially the kitchen. Mike, the owner, was a wonderful host, leaving a great welcome pack and bringing us eggs and fresh produce from his allotment. This is a comfortable, very spacious house, an ideal place to relax and from which to explore Dartmoor.

  • "We first went to Nirod two years ago."

We loved it. It cost about £600. We booked it up the next year and it was about £800. Because of lockdown, it was cancelled until this visit, at a cost of another £200. I looked in horror to see that Sykes have put the cost up, for the same time next year to £1700, unbelievable. Unfortunately there is no way that I’m going to pay that much for this property. Sykes are exploiting the situation. I will not book through Sykes again

Bike storage in garage much appreciated. Kitchen so well equipped, you are unlikely to be in need of anything. The Aga-type range takes a bit of getting used to, but we mastered it ! Two sets of patio doors onto terrace enabled us to enjoy the magnificent views from inside and outside.

The house was spotlessly clean with all the mod cons! The owner, Mike was the perfect host, and even put up Christmas decorations ready for our arrival. We have zero complaints from our stay and can't wait to stay again. We've stayed in many holiday houses over the years and Nirod tops them all.

  • "On arrival we were greeted with a mass of unsightly cobwebs covering the doorbell and immediate surrounding area."

On entering the property it was much the same cobwebs at almost every level, this property clearly had not seen a cleaner for a while. We were visited by the owner and he was shown some of the many cobwebs that were there and he wasn't too pleased that we had found so many. I have taken several photos as evidence. The cobwebs were not an isolated case as we along with the owner discovered more rubbish underneath the electric recliner that had obviously been there for a while. Cupboard doors were also found to be sticky which we found could be removed with the application of hot water and a cloth I even found a pair of metal tweezers wedged under a mirror in one of the bedrooms which were easy to spot so how come your cleaning staff didn't see any of this. Please note I have photos of everything we found wrong and none which were hidden apart from the large amount of dirt in the corner of the lounge to which access was restricted but not impossible to get to. We were denied access to the property until 1700hrs due to the excuse that you gave that your cleaning staff needed the extra time to present the property in a good clean condition this was clearly not the case.

Thank you for your feedback . We are sorry if the standard of the property did not meet your expectations. As you can see by our previous feedback it is 100% when it comes to cleanliness. We have passed your comments onto the cleaners to ensure they are aware and they have noted this. We hope to welcome you back to the property sometime in the future. Thank you. Property Owner

Very comfortable. Everything you could ever need for a holiday. Nice and peaceful location, but you haven’t got to drive far for beach or if you need a supermarket. Plenty of restaurants and pubs to visit. The only downside to the cleanliness was that the ledge under the radiator in the lounge was very dusty. Also by the sides of the log burner was dusty as well.

The house is spacious, the finish is of a very high standard, the level of equipment is amazing and the views are fantastic. On top of all that, Mike, the owner, was really lovely; he left us treats on arrival, including fresh eggs from his chickens, and kept us supplied for the fortnight. He also helped us out when we had a car problem resulting from an encounter with an inconsiderate driver in one of Devon's very narrow lanes. • "We have stayed in some lovely houses through Sykes over the years, but Nirod is by far the best."

So we booked our next week there straight away ! Firstly that view from the full width balcony. Photos cannot do it justice, looking across the valley above Bovey Tracey with Hay Tor on the skyline becoming to us keen walkers. We all spent a lot of time there, relaxing taking in the view and in the evenings watching the sunset. We were accompanied by elderly parents with limited mobility and a younger brother who has poor mobility following a stroke. So the ground floor bedroom and well equipped bathroom with large shower was key. The spacious house has been designed and equipped to a high standard with many features that took us by surprise. It is very comfortable. Located above the town, it has access to its facilities and the A38 but is also quiet. We had a very friendly welcome from Mike and Marlie (His Jack Russell). Mike is clearly motivated by making sure his guests have a memorable and comfortable stay. He is a lovely host. So we are all looking forward to our next stay and contrasting that view in winter.

BOVEY TRACEY

Newton Abbott 6.5 miles; Teigmouth 10 miles; Exeter 15 miles

Nestled in the valley of the River Bovey is this stunning little town known as "The Gateway to the Moor". Bovey Tracey got its name from the meandering river that flows through it, with 'Tracey' representing the family that were the lords of the manor after the Norman Conquest. It has a great history with heavy involvement in the English Civil War which resulted in the name of the town's pub "The Cromwell Arms" which serves real ale and good food. The history of the town can be discovered in the Heritage Centre, with the Dartmoor National Park Authority also nearby. Bovey Tracey offers a selection of shops and cafés along with the stunning Mill Marsh Park and the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery which offers guided tours. The town comes just outside of the Dartmoor National Park which provides seemingly endless walking and cycling paths along with incredible scenery. The market town of Newton Abbot sits nearby, offering a fantastic day out with charming buildings and a good range of amenities. The beautiful city of Exeter is also within driving distance, and if a day at the seaside is what you're after then take a trip to Teignmouth.
