  • "In the 1970’s the advert said ‘he was so impressed he bought the company’ - we were so impressed we booked another 4 weeks."

  • "We had a great stay at Pipkin Cottage, the owners have thought of everything and we were greeted with some lovely cakes and scones."

The place was spotless, comfortable and had everything we could have wanted. We met a few of the neighbours who were lovely and really friendly. A great base to explore Devon.

We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Pipkin Cottage and we hope to see you again. Alison and Dave Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage with an amazing wood burner in the lounge, thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds on the feeders in the back garden and eating breakfast at the front of the cottage in the glorious sunshine."

We did find the settee too soft which made it uncomfortable, all other furniture was fine. Equipment in the kitchen such as crockery and cutlery was very good and there were 3 new saucepans with lids but no large pan such as a wok and it proved difficult to make a roast dinner without borrowing from our neighbours. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Dear Claire We're so pleased that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed both the sunshine and the woodburner, along with the birds who regularly visit the back garden. We're sorry that you found the settee too soft for your liking and we will see what we can do to improve the firmness of it. We have also now added a wok to go alongside the frying pan, saucepans and roasting tin which hopefully covers most cooking options. We hope to welcome you back to Pipkin Cottage in the future. • "Lovely location."

Neighbours in the courtyard very friendly. Cottage well situated for coast and inland Devon. Welcome pack was good. Cottage well equipped and overall delightful. I appreciate that it is a very subjective comment, but the bed was very firm ! If you like birds, the garden feeders were visited daily by a Nuthatch and a Woodpecker in addition to the more regular garden birds.

Dear Teresa, We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Pipkin Cottage and watching the resident birds in the garden. Thank you for your feedback about the mattress, which we have now replaced with a slightly softer one. We hope to welcome you back to Pipkin Cottage in the future. Alison and Dave Property Owner

  • "Great location for access to north and south Devon."

Lovely quiet position within gated community. Local pubs and restaurants very limited. Unfortunately the main double bed was too firm and very uncomfortable.

Dear Gary, Thank you for your feedback, which we have acted on by replacing the mattress on the double bed with a slightly softer one. We have also researched some additional options for pubs and restaurants within a 15 minute drive and will be adding these recommendations to those already in the information book. We do hope to welcome you back to Pipkin Cottage in the future so that you can try them out. Alison and Dave Property Owner

The welcome pack was superb and the cottage is a home from home and we will certainly be looking to come back soon. The location of the cottage makes it easily accessible for exploring the Devon countryside as well as the coast and we wished we could have stayed longer.

  • "We have thoroughly enjoyed a weeks stay at Pipkin Cottage."

It is situated in a courtyard with several other cottages in Old Bridwell and has parking directly outside of the cottage. The property was warm and clean and we had a lovely welcome pack on arrival. It was also really pleasing to find as well as all the plates, pots and pans etc, all the little essentials within the cottage to last all week, such as dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid and all the equipment to do laundry and keep the cottage clean during your stay. There were plenty of logs to use the woodburner numerous times and it felt like the owners hadn't skimped on anything and had clearly gone the extra mile to make their guests feel welcome. The garden was private and enclosed and with plenty of seating to sit outside and watch the birds come to the birdfeeder and even see a cheeky squirrel. As the cottage is in mid-Devon, it was ideally placed for travelling all over Devon, including the coastal areas. It really is a little gem and we will be returning to stay again.

  • "A very well equipped and maintained cottage in an excellent location."

We stayed for over 4 weeks between lockdowns over Christmas and wished we could’ve stayed longer. Conveniently close to the M5 enabling easy travelling to explore the area but located in a quiet and beautiful little enclosed community. We were very impressed by the care and effort made to make us feel safe and comfortable. Everything that we needed had been catered for to make it home from home. Thank you to all involved in achieving that. We look forward to re-visiting the property.

Be welcomed in through the porch before finding the homely sitting room to be the first room on the right, with a woodburning stove set in the fireplace and plush seating to relax on, you can wind down with a favourite film on the TV with DVD player after a busy day.

Rustle up some tasty treats within the lovely country-style kitchen/diner, with a rustic breakfast table to gather around and all the appliances you need within the fitted kitchen, including a dishwasher and a washing machine!

From here you can take your morning coffee into the private enclosed courtyard to the rear and wake up with the rest of the world as you watch the wide range of local birds come and go at the bird feeders.

A cloakroom lies on the ground floor too, while upstairs you can freshen up after an energetic ramble within the pristine family bathroom, with a bath and a handheld shower offering somewhere to enjoy a long soak, and a walk-in shower too for quickly getting ready in the morning.

Three beautiful bedrooms present a lovely place to settle down at the end of the day, with a double bedroom with built in wardrobe storage, a twin room with two single beds which can be pushed together on request to provide a spot for a second couple, and finally a single bedroom, all featuring ample storage and thoughtfully chosen interiors.

Pipkin Cottage rests just a short drive away from the centre of the village of Uffculme, with a friendly atmosphere being home to a local shop within the Post Office, a pub and a takeaway along with various other businesses, as well as Coldharbour Mill, a museum detailing the old wool industry of the area.

Explore the wondrous Blackdown Hills AONB where you can delight in plenty of walking and cycling routes, as well as bridleways and riding routes too, with a scattering of places to visit along the way, from places like Hembury Hillfort which is a prehistoric Iron Age site, to Otterhead Lakes resting on a former Victorian estate, with lakes and woodland being wonderful habitats for a host of animals and plants.

A fun day out for all can be had at Diggerland Devon where full-size diggers, tractors and dumpers have been used to create exciting rides and drives for a unique day in the outdoors for all ages.

Wander around the stunning grounds of the National Trust's Knightshayes Court, with this large gothic country mansion set within formal gardens with lots of woodland walks to enjoy, with the elegant Killerton House dating from 1778 being another excellent visit with landscaped gardens.

A day trip to the exciting city of Exeter is worth being on the itinerary; walk along the medieval subterranean passageways that used to transport water beneath the city centre at Underground Passages, marvel at fascinating exhibits in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, and head to Exeter Castle and Exeter Cathedral before delighting in lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants and cafés within this bustling town centre.
