  • "The road is narrow and with parked cars its not recommended for a inexperienced driver."

It is also at the top of a steep hill and you will find when parking in the driveway a large vehicle would over hang next doors drive entrance You will need a car as while you stay here. The bungalow due to trees at the rear makes the living room seams dark but cool

The bungalow is called" Hillview Cottage", so yes it is at the top of a hill, as a great many other properties in Brixham are. We do have a large car ourselves and have never had a problem turning it fully into our drive. There are trees to the rear of the property which belong to the houses behind, and so we do not have any control over them. They do give very welcome shade when the sun is at it's highest point. • "It would be helpful to have more cleaning materials provided."

I had to buy bleach for the toilet, and I would welcome more black bin liners to bundle the linen into at the end of the stay. I brought items down myself but the provision is scanty compared to a cottage I rented from Sykes earlier on in the year.

I am sorry, but we do not provide bleach for two reasons. Firstly it a hazard to small children, and secondly if used incorrectly it can ruin towels and soft furnishings. We however provide the proper cleaning products suitable for bathroom and kitchen. Yes we can provide more black bin liners, that is no problem. Property Owner

Good base for exploring the area, especially walking on the South West coast path. Nice quiet location at the end of a cul-de-sac.

  • "My Son Richard found this property very nice , clean and warm."

Location good. Ideal for their family .He will defiantly book again. On the funny side he said he may take a fire guard next time as the baby took a shine to the coal. Many thanks to Diane and Ted. Richard and Vanessa Isabelle and Leon.

  • "It’s our second time in the property and it is a nice cottage in a good location however it could do with some basics like bin/caddy liners and dustpan and brush."

It is naturally a cold and dark property, and the twin bedroom had quite a bit of mould on one side and around the window , I would not want to sleep in that room.

If Hillview Cottage is naturally dark and cold as she claims, which it is not, then why did she book this second visit. The property not only has central heating, but also has a gas fire in the lounge, so there was absolutely no reason that she should have found it cold. She only had to switch it on, the instructions are provided. This is autumn and the weather and temperature can change quite quickly, and so I would expect our guests to use the heating as they would in their own home.We do always turn on the central heating on the 1st Oct every year as standard procedure. We do suspect that the mould that she found in the second bedroom was due to wet washing being dried indoors without any heating or ventilation. The problem has now been rectified. At no time during her visit did she report the problem to either myself or my cleaner, even though she was provided with contact details for us both. With regards to the comment about the lack of bin liners and a dustpan and brush, they are actually provided, and are in the kitchen broom cupboard, along with the ironing board, iron and clothes airer. • "We had a lovely break using Hill View as our base."

The accommodation is rated as 4 star but in our view it really was only a 3 star. The reason for this is that the shower room was quite shabby and wasn’t the cleanest. The towels although clean had definitely seen better days and were no longer white but yellowing with stains (we wish we had taken our own). The mattresses in the twin bedroom were the most uncomfortable mattresses I have ever slept on. The property details state that there is parking for 2 cars however unless they are very small you would not be able to fit 2 on the drive which could be an issue as there really is no parking on the street. Also the property particulars should state that the parking is extremely tight. However all of that said the rest of the property lived up to expectations. As somebody else mentioned in their review a small amount of money and effort would make all the difference.

  • "The house was in the perfect place for exploring Torbay, with everything within easy reach, though the roads are, like much of Devon, steep and narrow in places."

The terraced garden and patio are lovely, a great place to sit in the evening with a cup of tea and a piece of cake, or a glass of wine. The living room was a little small for three adults to sit and eat in comfortably. The kitchen was well equipped on the whole, though I'm glad I packed a cafetiere. The teapot was a bit of a nuisance until we learned to pour very slowly. For once there were enough coat hangers and clothes pegs! We had a lovely fortnight's holiday, with not a drop of rain and at least some sun every day. The sun tended to come out at about lunchtime when the sea mist/light cloud burned off.

  • "A lovely location and nice and quiet."

Property was good but lacked a few basic things such as a fourth dinner plate, other general kitchen equipment, a bath mat, liners for food bin and a vacuum cleaner. Living room does not close properly. Good little property but a small amount of money on some basics would make a great improvement overall.

  • "I have stayed in this cottage before so knew what to expect."

It is very comfortable and clean and a lovely well-stocked kitchen though I was glad I brought my own spare bin liners. Couple of points: it was unclear which day the black wheelie bins should go out for collection so I wheeled ours out only to find I had the wrong week even though it was the 2nd Thursday in the month. Bit confusing. It's also important to stress on the website that parking is tight and needs considerable dexterity!

It had everything we needed You can walk into Brixham harbour from the cottage. Coming back to the cottage is up hill walking but not too strenuous From just out the back gate , turn left and you can go on some lovely coastal walks in either direction along the coast. Back towards Brixham is the easier walk

Handy for walks along the South West coastal path. Inside it is cosy and very clean. An added bonus was that on most days of our week's stay there squirrels visited the back garden. We would definitely return there one day.

  • "The bungalow was exactly as described on the Sykes website."

When we arrived there was a "welcome pack" in the kitchen containing a few essentials to make a cup of tea/coffee. We were staying with my wife's mother (91 years old) and not so mobile. She found the ramp to the front door, various grab handles and the double size shower very useful. The only "downside" was that it is located at the top of quite a steep road which made walking from the bungalow a little awkward. Brixham is a hilly little town so a car is necessary for the less able. We had a lovely holiday, and the weather was perfect. I would recommend this bungalow for a holiday.

Perfect for couples, especially walkers or small families looking for a quiet holiday getaway.

This little hideaway offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle, a chance to spend some quality time with your loved ones.

The bungalow is all on one level, so is also appealing to the less agile.

There is a front entrance ramp or a couple of steps and only one step out to the lower garden terrace and eating area.

The cottage boasts a lovely, well-stocked kitchen, ideal for preparing those summer evening meals to eat on the terrace, or picnics to take out for a day's sightseeing or just relaxing on one of the beaches.

Here is a beautifully furnished lounge/diner, complete with TV, WiFi, games and books.

There is a gas effect fire and central heating for your comfort, which makes the most of the modern homely interior.

Choose from one of the two bedrooms for a well-deserved rest after a day of sightseeing, both the king-size double and the twin arrangement come complete with a stylish dressing table and coordinating bedside tables.

Awake and prepare for the day ahead in the spacious bathroom, benefitting from a double walk in shower.

For a change of scenery, why not unwind in the enclosed terraced garden, which is bordered with plants and offers fantastic views over Brixham towards Dartmoor?

You can sit and listen to the sound of the steam train whistle as it leaves for Dartmouth.

The back garden gate leads directly to the South West Coastal Path, ideal for walkers, where you can access the sandy beach of St Mary's Bay via some stone steps.

There is a local Spar shop within a five-minute walk for all your daily needs and papers.

Shoalstone indoor swimming pool is within easy walking distance, and it is only a short drive to the seawater pool at Shoalstone Beach.

Not too far from the sea and local beaches, with something for everyone, this ideal location is the perfect getaway not to be missed.

Brixham Harbour is famed for its fresh fish market, where you can see the trawlers unload their daily catch and you can buy some fresh fish for your supper.

You can also take the ferry from the harbour to Torquay or book a fishing trip.

There are many local pubs and restaurants all around the harbour serving great food and of course the locally caught fresh fish.

For something different take the round trip on the steam train to Dartmouth with a boat trip, which sails up the River Dart past Dittisham and Stoke Gabriel and into the market town of Totnes.

Or take the car ferry over to Dartmouth and visit the local shops, try the fish and chips, and take a trip along the River Dart and see Agatha Christie's former house as you sail by.

A fabulous getaway not to be missed.
