  • "Beautiful cottage, very well equipped and clean."

Comfortable and relaxing. Both indoor and outdoors were lovely. Spent as much time outside as we did inside. I would definitely stay again but for longer than a long weekend to make the most of this exceptional cottage. Highly recommended .

  • "Beautiful and thoughtfully decorated and furnished cottage - one of the very best we have stayed in, and that’s a lot of cottages over the years!"

We loved exploring the beautifully scenic footpaths starting right by the cottage, with our dog Kasper. Would very happily return - we would love to experience the lovely garden during the summer. Only suggestions to improve are (being very picky): consider adding dishwasher, updating the sofas, and would have been helpful to have a cooking apron, wash basket and pegs. Many thanks, the Allen family :)

  • "Thought the property was absolutely charming."

It was very well equipped cannot think of anything it didn't have except perhaps a little space to put our shopping away. The tumble dryer is also not connected if you were relying on doing washing while you are away. The garden has good facilities to take advantage of most days and the Orchard has always got something going on to entertain. The neighbours dogs also like to stop by to say hallo. We would definitely go back.

Thank you so much for your comments, we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay and for leaving the cottage in such good order. We hope to see you again Property Owner

We will miss looking out on the Orchard each morning and sitting in front of the fire at night.

  • "We had the most wonderful stay in this beautiful home from home."

It's been designed with such care - with both the inside and outside full of lovely spaces to relax. Everything feels so natural, and clean but not clinical.

  • "Orchard Cottage looked great on the website and was even better in real life!"

A beautiful spacious house that had everything we needed and more. The decor and personal touches in every room made it feel very homely. The garden was well kept and had a wealth of comfy seating areas to catch the sun and relax. A great place to base yourself and explore the area, and footpaths literally on the doorstep if you don’t want to get in the car. Will definitely be back!

  • "Such a beautiful home to stay in, the owners have thought of everything."

There were lots of little extras like plates and cutlery for the kids and tea coffee stuff on arrival not to mention fruit and a box of biscuits. There was already things like washing up liquid and loo roll too. The house was stunning and very spacious. A few points to note: owner needs to come and put bins out one evening so you need to be aware of the visit. One of the doors in the garden room is very temperamental so it's difficult to open (and lock again after). The sky TV isnt the full package I assumed from the listing that it was, the shower is locked on one setting, this can get very hot on occasions (was too warm for me sometimes and caused a bit of stress) but there is a bath that can also be used. The tumble dryer is out of use but there is a washing machine and a clothes airer that can be used. The wood burner in kitchen is out of use although there is one in the living room (we never got round to using this). And the WiFi is quite sketchy so sometimes signal is a problem (if this is important for work). All in all though it was a lovely house to stay in. Very high standard and when we did speak to the owners they were lovely and helpful.

  • "A true gem, we had a fabulous week here!"

Highlights include the immaculate garden, outdoor undercover seating area (perfect for reading a book and catching the morning sun) views out onto the orchard which is teaming with sheep, rabbits and other wildlife, and the lovely light garden room, just perfect for chilling out in. The wood burner was great to cozy up in front of in the evening and the cottage itself is very well located for exploring Somerset, Devon and Dorset. If you don't want to venture too far, then you're also spoiled for walking right on the doorstep. A couple of points to note: 1) The cottage has an electric vehicle charger. It is Type 1, so if you have a Type 2 vehicle (like us!) you cannot use it. 2) Dogs are welcome (and well catered for with towels and treats on arrival!) and are permitted on downstairs sofas, but are not permitted upstairs. 3) The shower is one temperature which it is not possible to adjust. I found it fab (as I like a hot shower) but my husband found it far too hot. There is a bath with hand held shower though as an alternative, where temperature controls are adjustable A beautiful cottage and wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

The property

Orchard Cottage takes its name from its lovely views of an old cider apple orchard, and can be found nestled at the edge of the quaint Somerset village of North Curry.

This characterful home from home is wonderfully suited to both couples and families; it’s not only a relaxing retreat, but also a perfect location to tour the West Country.

The property is on the edge of the Somerset Levels, surrounded by stunning, peaceful countryside, with hills, moors and two coastlines, plus all manner of attractions within close reach.

The kitchen/diner is the heart of the property; its exposed brick walls, traditional wooden beams, range cooker and farmhouse table bring a homely feel to the room, where you can enjoy evenings together.

Retire to the elegant sitting room, where a woodburning stove brings a cosy warmth, whilst you make the most of the Sky and Netflix packages.

Or, if you're seeking a quiet moment to yourself, spend some time in the garden room with its view of the orchard, and is a prime spot to relax in the afternoon and evening sunshine, as you watch TV, listen to the radio, or curl up with a good read.

A selection of books, board games and puzzles is available, to keep everyone entertained.

At the end of each day, take your pick from three beautifully presented bedrooms to rest in, with two double rooms, a twin with a single and a sofa bed (a small double), large family bathroom, with bath and walk-in shower, plus a downstairs cloakroom.

Each room offers ample storage, and there is a porch and outdoor covered drying space for beach and walking gear galore.

Be sure to soak up beautiful views from the house’s third of an acre garden, including private, gated areas with plenty of space for children and your canine companions to roam safely, as you dine alfresco, under beautiful Somerset skies or beneath the sheltered patio area.

A short stroll from the property will bring you to the centre of North Curry, where you will find a convenient Post Office, well-stocked village stores and characterful country pub that’s perfect for a Sunday lunch or evening meal, after a busy day of exploring.

The village is also home to the marvel that is The Church of St Peter & St Paul, known as ‘The Cathedral of the Moors' – a stunning landmark with spectacular views across the Somerset Levels to the Quantock Hills and the Vale of Taunton Deane.

Orchard Cottage is a haven for walkers and cyclists, with numerous beautiful routes to explore, from your doorstep (maps and guides to the local area are provided by the owners).

Close at hand are the level paths alongside the River Tone or Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, where you can also take to the water with boat trips or kayak hire.

More strenuous hikes take you along the East Deane Way or up Burrow Mump and, on clear days, you can spot the iconic Glastonbury Tor.

North Curry is within ready reach of many attractions, amenities and beauty spots.

The Willows and Wetlands Centre, complete with its tea room, is within a mile, as is a traditional cider farm where you can sample scrumpy to enjoy the true taste of Somerset.

The nearby county town of Taunton offers a wide range of shops, restaurants and historic buildings, including the castle which houses the Museum of Somerset.

In the surrounding area, you will find the Quantock Hills leading to the north coast, which can be accessed via stream trains on the West Somerset Railway – England’s longest heritage line.

The retail outlets of Clarks Village are close by, with Glastonbury, home of the internationally famous festival and the centre of Arthurian legend just beyond, while the rolling Blackdown Hills and the Jurassic Coast of East Dorset and Dorset – including the wonderful town of Lyme Regis – are to the south.

Excellent transport links, via road and rail mean the historic cities of Exeter and Bristol, along with the Georgian splendour of Bath and the tiny cathedral city of Wells, plus tourist spots and visitor attractions like Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge and the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare are less than an hour away.

Slightly further afield are the surfing beaches of North Devon and the wilds of Exmoor, Dartmoor and Cornwall – all easily within reach for day trips.

Offering peace and tranquillity, or excitement around every corner, Orchard Cottage is a truly remarkable Somerset cottage in which to base your West Country holiday.
