• "We booked this as it was on the flat and avoided the steep hills."

  This was such a clean house the best we've stayed in the last few years it was spotless. Plenty of room downstairs for cooling, eating and relaxing. We did find the house very cold, front door let in very cold air and kept hallway and the upstairs cold, especially the bedroom at the top of the stairs. The bed in the main bedroom we found very small and uncomfortable, we aren't big people but found little space whilst lying on the bed and duvet felt too small to cover us both and keep us warm. Back bedroom we used as a detessing room but again it was very cold in there. Living room sofa wasn't comfortable, when you sit on it you feel like it throws you forward, it wasn't a comfy sofa to sit on. For us as much as we loved the space this house had we wouldn't return for a 2nd visit due to how cold it was and how it lacked comfort. As we visited during winter months and we wete in the house alot over Xmas we didn't feel cosy and warm in the house. We did find it had everything we needed and more and a downstairs toilet that isn't mentioned in the description of the house.

We are pleased to hear that you found the house exceptionally clean, well equipped, and appreciated the space and layout, particularly downstairs. That said, we were very disappointed by the low rating, especially as we made considerable effort to prepare the cottage for a winter and Christmas stay, with the intention of making it as cosy and welcoming as possible. We would like to clarify a few points. The main bed is a standard double, proportionate to the room, and is fitted with a Simba memory foam mattress chosen specifically for its excellent customer reviews. We appreciate that comfort can be subjective, but this is not feedback we commonly receive. The heating throughout the property is fully controllable by guests and, when turned up, the cottage heats very quickly. We are sorry if this was not your experience during your stay. We do, however, take all feedback seriously. Following your comments, we have already improved the insulation around the front door to address drafts, and we are in the process of replacing the living room sofa by the end of this month to further enhance comfort. While we regret that the cottage did not meet your expectations for a winter stay, we hope the improvements made will ensure a cwarmer and more comfortable experience for future guests. • "An ideal property for exploring Lyme and the surrounding area."

  The tasteful Christmas decorations were much appreciated. We've already booked to return next December! The property details suggested that the parking space was not big enough for a large car, but pleasingly it turned out to be plenty big enough for my Ford Galaxy. Just one request, please clarify the recycling arrangements - there were 3 separate pages in the guest folder all containing different information. Also a phone call to failed to clarify the situation!

• "This was our second visit."

  We both love it for its cleanliness, homeliness and the really well stocked kitchen. It’s great to have a parking space and the walk down into the town is just perfect and not too long or hilly. The only very slight issue is the hard sofa, which at the end of a day out in the elements isn’t very welcoming however is completely fine and clean. We definitely will try and book again in 2026.

• "We loved our stay at River Lym Cottage!"

  It exceeded our expectations. The locations is perfect, really quiet and just a short 10min walk into town with other villages/towns only a short drive away. The parking was great, able to fit a Peugeot 2008! The kitchen was really well equipped and the whole place had everything we needed and was so clean! We would definitely recommend!

• "We have been many times with the previous company,and found the cottage spotless."

  This time however the floors were very dirty, the bottom of our socks and slippers were filthy. floors were obviously not washed .Considering that the cottage is dog friendly this should be done,(we didn’t have a dog) The sink overflow in the bathroom was dirty as was the rim under the toilet.we cleaned these ourselves.Not quite sure what the cleaner did.We feel very sorry for the owners who are paying good money to have the property maintained by Sykes .what a shame beautiful decor.We paid nearly £2000 for 2 weeks disappointing.

• "Comfortable , well appointed cottage."

  The location was perfect for us as we could take our dog for a walk straight from the front door . Near to town and beaches also. The addition of a parking place was a big plus point we were able to park our car (ford Puma) with room to spare but a large car might be a challenge. Overall a lovely cottage.

• "We had a very enjoyable long weekend along with our 2 miniature schnauzers."

  It was a great location and very comfortable. If I could recommend anything it would be to have a blind on the back door as the dogs slept in the kitchen and it was very light early hours so they were up earlier than I would of liked and being picky a pizza cutter would be handy. I think it is the only utensil missing. I would highly recommend and will hopefully get the chance to return to this cottage again. I managed to fit my Range Rover in the parking recess in front of the cottage which is a bonus. We had lovely sunny weather so was an added bonus. Sorry we forgot to write in the visitors book. Can recommend the Hong Kong Chinese takeaway in the town and the area is very dog friendly.

• "We found the property very well equipped and charmingly furnished and decorated."

  Our only concerns were that we could not find the operating instructions for the gas cooker (which we didn't realise was a gas cooker until the maintenance man told us) and the microwave, either in the drawer where the loose-leaf file told us they were - or anywhere else!

• "We had a lovely stay at River Lym Cottage."

  The house was perfect for us and easy access to the beach and Lyme Regis shops. There are walks for the dogs right from your doorstep too. The facilities had everything we needed and the house was comfortable and clean. Parking is a little tight for my estate car, but I managed it with a bit of back and forth!   Clean and tidy cottage would not stay here again due to parking at the cottage very tight and with the road closed at one end of the road very hard to turn around there was large builder vans parked everywhere The comfort at the cottage was very basic beds and furniture were not very comfortable it did have a downstairs toilet, which was not listed it is a nice 10 minute walk to the beach

  Thank you for your feedback. It is regrettable that you struggled with parking your car in the single space. Onsite parking is a rarity in Lyme Regis although there are plenty of options if this proved tricky. Unfortunately, the road closure is out of our hands, but I appreciate this could have made parking more of a challenge. Last year, the cottage was refurbished throughout to a high standard with all new furniture, for example, the double mattress is a Simba Hybrid that has received excellent independent reviews. We do hope that you consider a return visit to River Lym Cottage where you will be very welcome. Property Owner

• "Great location with parking for medium size car."

  Lovely decor and welcoming feel. Kitchen well equipped however we missed not having a tea pot. Useful having mini freezer compartment on fridge. Really comfy bed. Great to have shower and bath and second toilet. Nice to have option to pop heating on for towel rail as week was rather cool considering its July! We did have an issue with tv on first night would not turn on. Used batteries from my torch in handset which fixed it. Later in week had to report lack of signal from aerial. Maintenance came and fixed but happened again hour later. May need further investigation.

• "This was a perfectly situated and pristine place to stay."

  I couldn’t fault anything at all, I loved the decor and small personal touches. My only comment would be that the sofa wasn’t hugely comfortable but I do appreciate this is a rental property and furniture needs to be both cost efficient and sturdy! • "The only minor problem was a slight odour, which seemed to be coming from the drain under the kitchen sink."

  It was most evident when we first entered the cottage. It did not spoil our overall enjoyment but is probably worth investigating. It may also to alert future guests who want to park at the property, that it helps to be good at parallel parking!

• "Fantastic holiday at River Lym cottage!"

  We found it very comfortable and loved the beautiful walk down to the town along the river. We found the sound of the water very relaxing. Thank you for the lovely welcome goodies! The only confusion was around the recycling/waste- it wasn’t clear where to put food waste or what day the bins would be collected (no calendar).
