  • "Delightful cottage, we really enjoyed our stay and would like to book again at some point this year."

  • "Welcome pack was lovely, the beds were very comfy, lovely fresh clean towels with excellent facilities- dishwasher, washing machine, induction hob, brilliant showers/bathrooms."

Unloading the car was an issue with the parking some 50 yards away. However it was the hottest week of the year and the downstairs was very damp and a very strong musty smell. So much that we could not watch tv or read in the lounge as it literally took one’s breath away. We tried airing the property and even taking the cushions out in the sun to freshen up but with no avail. The dehumidifier was totally ineffective and in wrong location. We did correspond with owner and requested another dehumidifier which was not available.the property had not been occupied for some time and the owner identified this as the problem to the damp.

  • "The minute we opened the door the smell of damp hit us."

Anything left on the kitchen floor for more than a few minutes was damp when you picked it up and this is where the owners wanted our poor dog to sleep! The dehumidifier left in the property did nothing to help. The garden was overgrown with a very thorny rose growing across the entrance just at our dogs eye level. The outside sitting area was very unwelcoming, walls covered in green mould and looked like it had not been cleaned in sometime and not somewhere inviting to sit. Overflowing bins by the area where you parked the car when we arrived remained all week. The inside of the property was clean, apart from the awful damp smell. The kitchen was well equipped, there was a washing machine and tumble dryer but nowhere to hang clothes outside and you would not want to add to the damp in the cottage. Be aware that even on a bright sunny day this cottage is dark and dismal. If we had not had a charity walk planned that week we would not have stayed and we left a day early as it was really not a pleasant place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We do however recommend that guests contact us while staying in the property should any issues arise. We are pleased to confirm that a member of our Quality Assurance team visited the property shortly after your stay and was unable to find evidence of damp. This is an old stone-built Devon cottage, for which the majority of our guests have left very positive feedback, as you can see. The property benefits from electric heating and a wood burning stove, and in addition the kitchen has underfloor heating. Thank you for bringing the exterior of the property to our attention, we are advised that the owner will discuss this with the gardener with a view to improving guests' experience. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely relaxing time in a small, but perfectly formed country cottage."

Very clean and welcoming. We slept like logs in very comfortable beds and made use of the fantastic local pub - the Who’d Have Thought It. The parking is separate from the house, but just a short wander along a quiet road, so no great hardship. The village itself is very friendly and we spoke to lots of people on our wanders with our dog. The only negatives were that it wasn’t very warm. We had the wood burning stove on every night and our en suite shower stopped working half way through our week. Luckily there is another one to use. Overall we appreciated our stay in a lovely cottage filled with lovely touches. Thank you

The owner had thought of everything, the cottage was clean and comfortable. Village pub within walking distance, great food and friendly staff. Would absolutely stay here again in the future.

  • "Lovely clean cottage with great decor and a pretty garden (with steep steps) where we could sit and look across the beautiful tranquil village."

Good pub for food in the village and easy access by car to local amenities and on to Dartmoor.

I would recommend a visit to Buckland Abbey which is on the doorstep!

  • "The cottage was cosy & beautiful, very clean and well equipped."

It smells a bit musty in the front room but it’s a very old cottage, so almost expected. But it wouldn’t put us off staying again.

  • "Bit disappointed with this cottage."

There was a strong smell of damp downstairs which made us not want to spend too much time there. Upstairs was lovely. Also garden was not very useable as the steps were treacherous in the wet. We also didn’t like having to walk through the neighbour’s garden to access the cottage. We found the neighbour rather unfriendly too which didn’t help. The cottage was immaculate however and presented to a very high standard. It’s in a good location with a charming pub within walking distance.

Thank you for your feedback, and your kind comments on the cottage. Pleased to advise that the damp issue has now been resolved. Regarding the garden, I’m afraid that we can’t change the geography (one of the features of the village) nor the rain (this is Devon!), and the steps do get slippery, but there are good handrails. Perhaps a misconception regarding the paved access across the front of No2: this is in fact our land, so you are not crossing anyone else’s garden. Property Owner
