Set in the very pretty village of Buckland Monachorum, a few miles from Yelverton is Netherton Cottage.

This warm and welcoming retreat rests between the Tamar Valley AONB and Dartmoor National Park, both offering breathtaking scenery, superb walks and a range of country pursuits.

Inside you'll find a lovely open-plan living space, where you can stretch on the sofas in front of the roaring woodburning stove.The dining table with seating makes a wonderful social space for enjoying a meal or sharing a bottle of wine whilst the well fitted kitchen houses a feature Aga and everything you'll need to whip up a delicious meal.

At the end of a busy day, retire to one of two peaceful bedrooms, a very spacious first floor double with a kingsize bed, day bed and ensuite shower room or a ground floor room with a kingsize bed.

A second shower room also on the ground floor means that guests needn't share facilities.

Dine alfresco in the garden during the summer months or simply sit with a good book and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Tamar Valley and Dartmoor National Park, there is no shortage of good walking nearby.

Head to the Walkham Valley where you'll find rugged scenic panoramas and gentle woodlands, or Lopwell Dam for a host of breathtaking views and colours year round.

For keen gardeners, The Garden House is a horticultural experience and there some excellent nurseries to visit.

The National Trusts Buckland Abbey is a little over a mile away and is well worth a visit as is the nearby ancient market town of Tavistock which offers a wide range of eateries and a wonderful Pannier Market.

Further afield are the golden sandy beaches of the South Hams and the bright lights of Plymouth - Devon's Ocean City.

The pretty village of Yelverton makes a perfect base for exploring Dartmoor with excellent walking and cycling routes in the area. The 21 mile-long cycling and walking route Drakes trail, runs through the village and links nearby Tavistock and Plymouth passing through wooded valleys and open moorland. It is also possible to hire bikes in the village. There are several eating places around Yelverton including The Drake Manor Inn and The Royal Oak which provide a warm welcome and superb locally sourced food. Nearby attractions include Buckland Abbey, The Garden House and Burrator Reservoir. The South Devon coast is within easy reach for day trips to Salcombe and the pretty riverside village of Newton Ferrers. The Naval port of Plymouth can also be easily reached, famous for its maritime heritage and the historic Barbican district its narrow, cobbled streets lined with a fine selection of restaurants and bars.
