  • "Floor boards creaking loudly upstairs wakeing people up if you got out of bed for toilet or to come downstairs."

Very old creaky wardrobes and drawers so lived out of our suit cases for the week.Only one very small tv in main bedroom none in the other two.quilts were winter ones and sounded like a packet of crisps every time you moved.Downstairs lounge tv very small for such a big room and old and dated.Kitchen tea towels were old ,stained and full of holes. One tiny little drop of milk was your welcome pack of groceries. The garden at the back was glorious to look out onto, the only really good thing about the place, and the size of the house itself. As for the endless flow indoor pool !!! Only fit for children to play in not for adults to swim. For a farm house I suppose it's fine but if your looking for a 4 or 5 star rating home this is not it.It would be great for children and dogs who don't care about how clean the place is etc but for us unfortunately we were not impressed especially for the money we paid.Great property to look at and wonderful gardens but inside needs updating etc etc a small drop of milk was a poor show to welcome guests into your home. Sorry but have to be truthful about our experience.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are aware of the squeaky floorboards but need to take the carpet up to be able to screw the floorboards down. The TV in the lounge has been replaced but we won’t be adding further TV’s to the bedrooms. The duvets are good quality feather and down duvets. The tea towels have been checked and are fine. We’re confused by your comment regarding the milk, we leave milk, brownies, coffee pods, teabags, sugar and fresh flowers for all of our guests. Adults can use and swim in the endless flow swimming pool, there is also an outdoor heated pool on site which guests can use and is shared with ourselves and guests in our other properties. The pictures on the website are a true reflection of the property. Property Owner

We (my husband, 17 & 11 year old sons, Dilys the dog and I) visited the The Red Barn for a February half term break and were extremely impressed with the house and facilities. The location is simply perfect, very quiet with beautiful views across farmland and out to the moors. The house itself is spacious and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a family holiday. The pool is a huge bonus and so convenient as it's actually part of the house. The beds were extremely comfy and the heating works very well so the house was always toasty which was very important in February. The owners were kind and helpful - I'd love to go back one day soon please!

It is truly stunning. We stayed as a family of four with our dogs and enjoyed wonderful walks, lovely trips to Tavistock for the shops and cafes and there are some great local pubs a short drive for food and drinks. The barn has what you need, and the bedding is wonderful. The pool is a great extra, our children had never swum against a current before! Final comment - the barn was so lovely and warm throughout our stay and the lounge photos don't do it justice!! Thank you for a lovely stay!

There are a few things that could be better . The floors are very creaky, so if you are a light sleeper this is a problem. The barn was converted in the early 2000s. The pool is great , a little treat to enjoy . The downside to this property is the 4pm check-in , and the 9am check-out. I did request if we could vacate at 10 but the owner never replied to my message

BUT the outdoor swimming pool and game’s room are about 15 minutes walk across country and uphill. I feel this should be explained in the listing as I didn’t expect it to be so far away from the Barn . We also had to book a slot for one and a half hours per day in advance for the outdoor pool. Not sure if this is down to Covid or not .We did however have the indoor pool was great . Overall we thoroughly enjoyed it

  • "The Red Barn is in beautiful surroundings and is well provisioned."

It is a little remote and at least an hour from the coast. It is perfect for the dogs with plenty of room for them to run around. An upgrade to some of the facilities would be advised. The loungers did not have any cushions and hob was difficult to use. We were unable to work out how to maintain heat for cooking even though we read the instructions. The dials were worn so it was difficult to see where to set the switch. Having said all this we would book here again and none of the above detracted from our enjoyment.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your stay at Red Barn. The cushions for the loungers are stored under the stairs. We have spoken to the owner re the hob dials and she will rectify this. Despite the points raised we are pleased you enjoyed your stay, it really is a magical place to spend time. Property Owner

The house was gorgeous and the location amazing, our 3 spaniels loved being able to walk straight out onto the moors. The large secure garden is a real bonus for dog owners. We made full use of the flow pool and treadmill and appreciated the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier, Tim ( our host) was great, ringing to check all was good on the night we arrived and he arranged and led a clay pigeon shooting session for some of our group which was a real highlight of the holiday. • "Although very nice the house did not fully live up to expectations and I did not consider it good value for the very expensive rental cost."

The property is somewhat ‘tired’ with, for example, drawer fronts falling off, doors ‘jamming’ and difficult to lock, kitchen equipment not up to expectations (I had to buy a frying pan as the ones provided were in a poor condition.) Particularly the ‘endless river’ function of the swimming pool was not working for half of our holiday which is a shame as this was one of the main features for selecting this property

Thank you for your comments. We have discussed this with the owners who have advised that the drawer fronts have now been fixed. The front door has been checked and does not jam; the key sometimes needs a little wiggling. They will sort through all of the kitchen equipment and utensils and anything that needs replacing will be replaced. There was an electrical fault with the 'endless river flow' function of the swimming pool, which had to be fixed by an engineer. As soon as the owners were made aware of the problem, they contacted the engineer, who came as soon as he was able to. Property Owner

  • "Firstly, although I have ticked 'met expectations', that is because I have high expectations which are quite often not met by holiday companies."

So I am glad to say that Sykes and this holiday cottage met everything. The home is in a quiet location, a half mile walk (or with an old dog a drive!), up to the moor and then lots of walking, beginning with level walks. We only managed short level walks with an older dog, but level walking is essential for him. The home itself was very clean, comfortable, the pool was wonderful, although initially seemed much smaller than I would have liked, but swimming against the current was great, swimming on the spot! You can alter the current, so I had it at very gentle!! The pool is a reasonable size for children to be in without the current. We had a great time and are looking at dates to go back.
