Lying in the peaceful hamlet of Capton is this rustic mid-terrace holiday home in Devon, Forge Cottage.

Keeping a wealth of its original features, Forge Cottage boasts timber beams and frames, bespoke furniture and a times-gone-by ambiance, perfect for a small family holiday to the South Hams district of Devon.

Admire the pretty green painted exterior, taking in your surroundings of a neighbouring thatched cottage and narrow streets, before entering through the stable door and into the kitchen/diner.

Find all the essentials for home cooking here, with an electric oven and hob a fridge and separate freezer , you can prepare a delicious meal atop the wooden worktops before serving it at the long timber dining table with chairs and bench seating.

A step up bring you into the homely sitting room where an original fireplace houses the woodburning stove and a sofa and two armchairs offer lovely spots to relax as you enjoy the TV, with pretty vintage window shutters flung open to let the natural light in.

Take the steep and bespoke wooden staircase up to the first floor and notice the vintage metal signs adorning the walls and beams lit by the skylight above, before finding the charming children's bunk room.

Fitted bunk beds are perfect for your little ones with shelves for storage and a lovely armchair here, while the second bedroom boasts a king-size bed, unique fitted storage and a charming reading corner home to an armchair.

A stair ladder in here and on the landing, with the latter now turned into a quirky bookshelf, lead up to the second floor which is not open to guests due to the steep access, but both make interesting features.

Completing the first floor is the family bathroom, completely wood panelled and home to a bath, separate shower, and a rare and novelty 'gentleman's toilet' with the only difference from a normal WC being that the lid automatically stays up!

Outside opposite the cottage is your very own private paved south facing garden with furniture here to relax on and enjoy alfresco dining, perfect for ending the day in the last of the evening sun, with a linhay for storage of kayaks, bikes and outdoor gear, along with off-road parking spaces too.

Capton makes a delightful base for your Devon adventures, being in the midst of the South Hams countryside yet within reach of lots of amenities and attractions, with the village of Dittisham being just three miles away and home to all you need for a self-catered stay.

Enjoy visiting Dittisham's FBI, Ferry Boat Inn, as well as The Red Lion Inn, and the Anchorside Café for all manner of refreshments, as well as Dittisham's village store for all your essentials.

From the quayside you can take a ferry across to Greenway Quay and Estate, home to the famous crime novelist Agatha Christie or catch the ferry down to Dartmouth, perched on the hillside overlooking the River Dart and over to Kingswear across the water, for an array of boat trips including sea safaris spotting the wildlife, sea fishing, or luxury cruises, there's something for everyone.

Dittisham is a picturesque village surrounded by rolling countryside, located on the banks of the River Dart in the South Hams. Wander along the quiet streets lined with quaint, stone cottages and lush gardens, until you reach the waterfront. Dittisham’s quayside is often regarded as the hub of village activity. Stop at the Anchorside Café for a spot of breakfast – while taking in the fantastic river views. Try your hand at some crabbing with the kids on the dinghy pontoon. Visit the iconic pink Ferry Boat Inn (or FBI as it is known locally). Ring the bell for the ferry and head across the Dart to Greenway, the once holiday home of the renowned Agatha Christie. For outdoor activity, there are sailing schools and canoe hire, as well as plenty of scenic walks. The harbour town of Dartmouth is just a short drive away or ferry away, and offers an array of shops, a cinema, plenty of restaurants and even a castle. Further afield, you will find plenty of fantastic beaches such as Blackpool and Slapton Sands, as well as key destinations such as Salcombe, Totnes, and Brixham to explore.
