  • "We had a lovely stay at Leys and even though the weather was a little unkind we found plenty to do in the general area."

Jill was a very hospitable and attentive host and nothing was too much trouble for her. Our grandchildren just loved Flossie & Flo the sheep and Jill was kind enough to give the girls plenty of feed for them. We shall definitely look at returning before too long.

  • "A beautiful barn conversion with excellent facilities and many thoughtful extras in a lovely rural location."

The owner was very informative and helpful with any queries we raised and a problem with the lighting in the kitchen/living area was eventually resolved during our stay. As mentioned in a previous review, the listing should probably make it clearer that the upstairs is actually a mezzanine without a ceiling which means that the light and sound from the downstairs living area travels to the upstairs bedroom. It wasn’t a problem for our group as we all went to bed at about the same time but it might not suit everyone. We were a group of seven adults and we thoroughly enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing holiday together in delightful surroundings with so much to see and explore in the local area. Would definitely recommend.

If the weather had been better we would have ventured even further on the nature trails around but the surrounds are gorgeous and the kids loved seeing the various animals. Jill was extremely friendly and helpful, we will be back!

  • "Great property with a fantastic inside, pity about steep ramp from road (next to steps) for anybody disabled or in a wheelchair the ramp is extremely steep but the inside of the property makes a spectacular surprise, also the owner of the property is a delight and so helpful."

A sign on the gate would had helped us finding the property the first time which was at night down a unlight road.

Thank you for your very kind and generous words. Ramp: we are reviewing this and hope to make it a more gradual one in due course. There are actually 2 signs: 1 by the gate just before the property and 1 at the bottom of the drive, coming off Lime Kiln Lane. Property Owner

  • "I do think the fact that you are basically right next to a cow shed should be pointed out in the listing as the smell was sometimes almost unbearable with the windows open!"

! Along with the accompanying flies. Not the fault of the owner who was never less than helpful. Also just a thought. As more and more people are getting electric cars it would have been really really helpful to have a charging point at the cottage as it was quite hard to find one locally.

Thank you for your feedback. Leys isn't actually "right next to a cow shed". The milking shed is on my neighbour's land, on the other side of the stables and across the lane. Flies can be a problem sometimes in the summer, but we have an excellent electric fly zapper. There are also occasionally some farmyard smells, but I am afraid this is part of living in the country. A bad smell doesn't happen very often, and usually they are very pleasant freshly-mown-hay type smells. Charging point: there are several of these nearby. We plan to put in a charging point in due course, but at the moment there is not sufficient call for it. Property Owner

  • "Leys at Valley View Farm is an exceptional property."

Immaculately maintained with beautifully planted rockeries outside, it provided a lovely base for visiting Dorset and Devon. The owner, Jill, looked after us very well, without being intrusive. She also provided a generous welcome pack which was waiting for us when we arrived. Uplyme has a good pub - The Talbot - and an excellent tea shop -The Black Dog - which offered delicious cream teas. Apart from the mixed weather, the property and its location made for a lovely holiday.

  • "A stunning property which richly deserves its 5* rating."

The owner, Jill, was welcoming, approachable and very helpful. The property is on the site of a working stock farm, with cattle sheds proximate to it, and the occasional whiff from these was quite strong. This did not trouble us and we found the gentle lowing of the cows rather soothing! Others may have different views though so perhaps mention the barn’s proximity to farm buildings?

  • "We booked The Leys for a family holiday - hoping that all 7 of us could be together for the first time in ages."

Sadly, because of Covid restrictions, our adult children had to visit at different times but we still made the most of all that the property had to offer and had a wonderful time. The Leys is ideal for this type of gathering as each bedroom has its own ensuite and the living area is big and airy, with plenty of space to socially distance. There is also a separate snug for anyone wanting some time to themselves. The standard of the decor and furnishings is very high, tasteful and comfortable. Much thought has been put into providing lots of activities on site for those days when you don't want to go out and for children especially - both indoors and outdoors. We loved our stay here and found the owner, Jill very helpful and welcoming. Her artwork is displayed on the barn walls and other products are also available to purchase as a souvenir of your stay. One point that should be high lighted is that the upstairs bedroom is in fact on a mezzanine level, it has walls but no ceiling and so is open to any noise coming from the living area. Having said that, it is big and includes its own settee and TV, as well as access to its own bathroom, which includes a large bath - very comfy indeed! I would and will recommend this property to anyone looking for a large family retreat in the Dorset countryside. Thank you Jill for allowing us to stay at The Leys and for all you have provided.

It opened in the summer of 2018, but is still in the early stages of development.

This is very much a 'work in progress', but the owner plans to install cameras, so that barn and annexe guests can view the wildlife from the comfort of the armchair, a live version of Spring Watch.

Jill hopes that guests will feel free to try use the area to enjoy the wildlife and feel free to make camps or such like.

There are lots of fallen branches and plenty of dead vegetation to help with structures - the ideal place to hone your bush craft skills!

Providing checklists and clipboards, encourages guests to see what they can spot.

Help from keen naturalists and birdwatchers in adding to the list would be much appreciated. Entry to this area is strictly at your own risk, while children must be accompanied at all times and.

The pond is deep in parts and therefore extremely hazardous.
