  • "A wonderful property with everything you could possibly need and lovely owners."

I can see why it’s always booked up!

  • "This is a good cottage and we had an enjoyable stay."

Thank you. The pictures in the brochure don't do the listing any favours. The cottage was much nicer that I expected.

Thank you for the feedback, we’re glad you had a nice stay. Very much appreciate your comments on the photos, we have been gradually adding new touches to the cottage and the pictures in the listing perhaps need updating- we’ll get on to that. Property Owner

  • "What a lovely property, everything you could need for a great stay."

Off the beaten path but easy access to the whole of Dartmoor and a short hop to Widdecombe in the moor. An under counter freezer so you can stock up before arrival. A nice dog proof garden and you’ll have more sheep and cattle passing the front door than cars. If you are there on a clear night do take the chance to look at the stars. If you are considering this property then it ticks a lot of boxes for you, then look no further book it. A lovely property that is obviously cared for and loved by its owners. Book it

  • "An amazing holiday that was perfect in every way."

Pond Cottage is the perfect location if you want to travel and explore the area. We even spent 2 days travelling to South Devon and then North Devon beaches for comparison. The rest of the time we explored the local Dartmoor area which was vast. In 7 days we still have lots more to do and would not hesitate to return back. Pond Cottage had such a welcoming feel just like a home away from home. The cottage is exactly as per description plus more. The attention to detail was outstanding and they have thought of everything for a weeks stay. We will return and highly recommend. Thank you so much

  • "A lovely cottage, well positioned within Dartmoor for those who love walking and outdoor life, being off the beaten track somewhat."

Extremely well equipped and comfortable. Loads of pubs nearby for evening meals. One of our best ever holidays.

  • "We loved staying at Pond Cottage."

We really liked the furniture and how well considered the furnishings were. We have stayed in lots of different cottages in Dartmoor and this was one of the nicest. The kitchen was great to use and really spacious. We also loved hearing the owls calling every night and popping out onto the landing to check for stars.

Thank you for your kind words, I am so pleased you liked the cottage, it is our escape too so it is just how we love it and it is always nice to hear that other people love it too! I hope we can welcome you back one day! Jane Property Owner

  • "It is clear this is a well loved property by the owner."

The neighbour introduced himself, let us know he’d be of help should be ever need it, and he gave us a little welcome basket. The property was clean and well maintained. The shower in the en-suite was lovely, well needed after a muddy day waking! We really enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we do love our cottage and we are so lucky to have great neighbours. We are really glad you loved it too! Property Owner

It's not often that a cottage exceeds expectation but Pond Cottage certainly did. Great location as well, very central for exploring all of Dartmoor... would not hesitate to book again if planning to visit Dartmoor in the future....

  • "I had a marvelous three weeks at Pond Cottage located in the middle of Dartmoor National Park."

The location was perfect and I was able to do some walks right from the door of the cottage. The converted farm building is a delight with some original features but fully modernized with everything you could want for a really comfortable vacation. The owner was responsive and the neighbors lovely. Can't recommend it highly enough :)

  • "Pond Cottage is absolutely beautiful."

It has been kept to the highest standard. The cottage was very well equipped and we received a lovely welcome package. We were more remote than expected but soon adjusted to this but if you want a quiet spot in which to enjoy Dartmoor, Pond Cottage is perfect. The local pubs both served delicious food.

  • "Very smartly appointed, stylish and comfortable cottage deep in Dartmoor."

Everything in decor, furnishings and equipment new or in excellent condition. The welcome pack was delightful, comprising eggs, milk, bread, butter etc., all locally sourced. Easy to walk from the cottage to Widdecombe (45 mins) where a typical English village awaits with at least 2 excellent restaurants/pubs. Lots of other walks in the near neighbourhood if you want something more upwards and strenuous.

Well thought out, cosy, comfortable and very quiet. The welcome basket of bread, milk etc, was very welcome and all local produce. Unfortunately, we couldn't make the most of the large garden due to the weather behaving!

  • "We wanted to thank you both for having us - we had a fantastic time in Dartmoor, and your cottage really made it for us."

It is perfectly located for walkers and so comfortable and beautifully decorated. We loved it. The extra touches really make a cottage stay, the garden herbs, some cheese in the fridge but also the cookbooks and candles available for use.

About the location

WIDECOMBE-IN-THE-MOOR

Bovey Tracey 7.4 miles; Newton Abbot 11.6 miles; Torquay 19.1 miles.

Widecombe is tucked away in a Dartmoor valley with the spectacular moorland and tors rising up on all sides, making it a perfect location for walkers, mountain bikers, riders or those that love dramatic landscapes. The village is made up of a pretty mixture of granite built houses and a lovely old church which is known as the cathedral of the moor. There are a couple of good food pubs, a café for indulgent cream teas and shops. Widecombe famously hosts Widecombe Fair every September, where you can see displays of livestock, local produce, vintage farm machinery and even a bale tossing competition. Further afield is Bovey Tracey – home to the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and worthy of a visit. Dartmoor National Park has the greatest number of archaeological remains in Europe and there are Neolithic tombs, mystical stone circles and abandoned medieval farmsteads to explore. Conan Doyle was inspired to write his classic novel The Hound of the Baskervilles and it is easy to imagine Sherlock Holmes wandering the wild moorland terrain, along with the wild and beautiful Dartmoor ponies.
