  • "Peace, perfect peace."

I didn't know what to expect, not knowing the area and being situated near to Hinckley Point, but I needn't have worried. The Annexe is lovely. Tucked away on the owners plot, surrounded by mature trees and well laid out gardens, it is a very comfortable and well furnished home from home. Private and spacious, it had everything we needed for a very relaxing break. The beauty of its surroundings shows itself a short walk through a side gate, when the whole of the Bristol Channel opens up in front of you. Stunning walking right on your doorstep, the Quantock Hills in easy reach and a good variety of shops a short drive away in Bridgewater. If you want pubs, clubs and bars within easy reach, then this isn't for you. But if peace, tranquility and stunning scenery and nature is your thing, then this is the place for you. Libby and David are great hosts, always willing to help and give good advice about places to visit. We enjoyed it do much, we've already booked for next year.

The owners are very nice people who made us very welcome. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and as a result our expectations were completely met. (They could not be exceeded as the description of the accommodation was accurate.). The owners were very friendly and it felt like we had known them for a long time. Even down to a few welcome items of groceries as a welcome. Nice touch! In short we would recommend this accommodation.

  • "I was made to feel very welcome by the Annexe owners, Dave and Libby who live next door, Upon arrival, Libby showed me round the Annexe and she'd provided me with a welcome pack including milk, butter, teacakes and delicious fresh bread from the next village."

The property itself was spotlessly clean and very comfortable- the bed was amazing! It was decorated very nicely, including some beautiful wall art of the local area painted by Libby herself. The kitchen had everything you could need, and Libby had left essentials like hand soap, washing up liquid, cleaning spray, sponges, cling film, foil, bin bags and salt and pepper-really useful stuff that you take for granted at home and often overlooked when packing, so a welcome addition to the cottage. The grounds of the owners house/annexe were gorgeous and the location was so peaceful, all you could hear were the birds . It's also close to a rocky beach which is part of the English Coastal path walking route. I would recommend this property and will return.

  • "The Annex proved an excellent base for exploring an area that was unfamiliar to us but full of interesting places to discover both near (a few paces takes you to the coast path and it's just a short drive to the excellent WWT reserve at Steart Marshes) and further afield (e."

    G. Glastonbury, Wells Cathedral and RSPB Reserves on the Somerset Levels). The Annex's setting is quiet and lovely, surrounded as it is by the owners' beautiful garden. The owners were welcoming and helpful. We found it all very relaxing and comfortable. Perhaps a few more kitchen utensils would be helpful but it was not a major issue. There are some narrow roads to negotiate to get to the Annex but they were rarely busy and there are passing places. Recommended and would return in future.

This charming annexe to the owner’s property is perfectly situated in south-west Somerset, between the Quantock Hills and Bridgwater Bay.

The cottage is in the hamlet of Stolford near to the peaceful village of Stogursey.

Also enjoy access to coastal walks directly from the garden.

Fabulous views of the Somerset coastline with Burnham-on-Sea in the distance can be seen from here.

Having pulled onto the private drive, you will walk a few steps to a small gate enclosing the pretty garden and lovely patio area overlooking the owner’s grounds and open countryside beyond.

The lounge offers a comfortable sofa to enjoy a film or simply absorb the tranquillity of the surroundings.

There is an electric fire for chilly nights and the option to indulge in a home-cooked meal at the dining room table, having made use of the well-equipped kitchen area.

The Babbling Brook Inn is family-run with award-winning food, while The Greyhound Inn has a woodburning stove for the winter, keeping you nice and cosy.

Weston-super-Mare, with its golden beaches and traditional donkey rides can easily be visited by car.

The pebbly, dog-friendly beach looks out onto the expansive mudflats of the Bristol Channel and it is possible to find fossils at Stolford beach or fish at high tide.

This location will particularly appeal to nature lovers wanting to visit the WWT Nature Reserve of Steart Marshes with lovely first class bird hides.

It is close to the salt marshes and sandbanks along the River Parrett, which provide an internationally important feeding and roosting site for wildfowl and wading birds.

About the location

STOGURSEY

Bridgwater 9 miles; Watchet 10 miles.

The quiet village of Stogursey is situated close to the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only a mile from the sea. To the west lies Exmoor, and to the east are the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury and Wells. The village has a traditional friendly pub, a couple of village shops and an interesting castle with pretty moat. The Somerset Levels is one of the best places in the world for birdwatching, and the local Steart Peninsula, to the north of Stogursey, is part of the Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve (NNR) and is a vast area which is part of a larger Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). For a spot of relaxing fishing, the nearby Burton Springs Fishery is regarded as one of Somerset’s finest and most tranquil fisheries, and has the benefit of three spring-fed lakes. The Coleridge Way is a beautiful 36-mile walking route through the stunning Somerset countryside of the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor, a landscape that inspired Coleridge to produce some of his best-known work. Children may enjoy Tropiquaria at Watchet or just playing on the beach. Locally, hunting for fossils in Kilve is always popular, or the steam train at Bishops Lydeard. This lovely village is a great base for exploring the area.
